Finnan: Cavaliers Offer Tom Izzo Contract

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't know how reliable that site is.

I would expect a Michigan State site to have that information before a Cleveland blog.

Ill feel much better if Windy breaks this story or I hear it from Reghi at 3pm on KNR.

Izzo says he doesn't want to announce his move 'til the end of the week, according to WFNY. Doesn't mean the media can't go nuts about it. If it IS true, I'm betting Windy's making sure he's got all his sources straight before he confirms. WFNY may not be worried about losing credibility as much as Windy if the story is false.

The source is MSU players who were told Izzo would accept.

He hasn't accepted yet, thusly, it's not going to be reported by any credible source - as of this moment.

If true,, this sets up everything. Before you had a chicken and egg situation as a big coach wouldn't sign without LeBron, and LeBron might not sign without a coach. And another free agent definitely wouldn't agree to a sign and trade without one of those or both.

Step 1 is possibly now complete, now Gilbert needs to land a real player in a trade.

I hope Izzo works out well. Haven't been a fan of going the college coach route even though I love Izzo as a coach and do believe he would have a chance at success. My biggest concerns are the major differences between coaching the college game and the pro game and the almost 40 year failure of any college coach with zero pro experience making the successful transition.

It should be about going after the best candidate for the NBA game, not trying to make the biggest splash.

Windy did report that he had heard that Izzo was looking for jobs for his assistants after a meeting held yesterday(per espn insider)... so while this could be true i will wait it out as well

Will wait to see if true.

Not only LeBron, but I think it's better to have an HC in place before you go FA shopping or trying to trade anyway. It's not essential, but it's nice to get his input on players we might acquire.

Now we just need BOSH

Coach Tom Izzo would make an easy transition to the NBA, says Mo Peterson

The transition from college to the NBA has not been an easy transition for college coaches, but New Orleans Hornets guard Mo Peterson says that move would be seamless for Michigan State coach Tom Izzo.

"Coach wouldn't have a problem with the transition," Peterson said. "He's a motivator. He'd be well respected in any locker room. He has something a lot of coaches don't have. Coach can walk you to a lake and tell you the lake is on fire and you'd believe it."

Under Izzo, Peterson helped lead Michigan State to the 2000 NCAA title.

Apparently, the Cleveland Cavaliers have made an offer to Izzo, one of the top coaches in college basketball. Izzo, according to several reports, is mulling over the reported offer of at least $30 million over five years.

The biggest reason Izzo has to think about the offer is because of LeBron James and free agency. No one knows which team James will sign with this summer.

Peterson says that's the main reason why the Izzo decision is up in the air.

"It's hard to put a percentage on which way coach will go," Peterson said. "I mean, MSU has a chance at something special next year. They could win the national championship. So with that in mind, it would take something really special for him to leave. I don't see coach leaving Michigan State unless LeBron stays."
