Finnan: Cavaliers Offer Tom Izzo Contract

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thats opinion, it's a fact that the players had a lot of respect for Mike Brown and Mike Brown had a lot of respect for his team. Just ask Mo or Z. Yes, he has been ejected from games and all of the sudden the Cavs go off and turn out a win.

Mike Brown may be a lot of things, but unpassionate is not one of them.

How much passion did you see in the playoffs? I saw roughly zero. I saw a chicken with his head cut off trying to figure out why his team was sucking by randomly throwing in lineups.

When Z and AV were on the floor against boston we played pretty well... so what does MB do? He sits them, and puts in his starting rotation which hadn't done shit all series. Thats stupidity not passion.

If Mike Brown had passion, he would have sat LeBron's ass atleast once during that Boston series and made a spectacle out of it. He didn't. All he did was bitch and moan that one game.... AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER! Thats not the time to bitch (after the game) or the people he needed to bitch to (the media). It seemed like he was too much of a pussy to bitch to his players about how much they were sucking and instead used the media to get his message across. How embarassing is that?

In MB's defense, after the game 2 debacle he tore the locker room apart and they came out and laid an ass-whooping on Boston in game 3.

Something happened somewhere between games 4 and the second quarter of game 5 that could have taken place at the end of game 4 during the 4th quarter, in between the games, at practice, or during the beginning of game 5 that set off what happened in that game. It certainly wasn't MB's lack of passion.

Cavs’ pitch to Izzo hinges on LeBron plan

When Michigan State coach Tom Izzo visits the Cleveland Cavaliers’ facilities and meets front-office staff in a planned trip on Thursday, he wants to hear a detailed plan on how new general manager Chris Grant hopes to retool the franchise should LeBron James(notes) depart as a free agent, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer first reported that Izzo planned to visit Cleveland on Thursday to meet with team officials.

Sources say that Izzo has been convinced that the Cavaliers have a legitimate chance to re-sign LeBron James, but ultimately his hesitancy still sits with the uncertainty surrounding the two-time league MVP.

Izzo spent significant time on Wednesday night calling friends who’ve coached in both college and the pros. Also, Izzo has been investigating several potential assistant coaches, and asking about members of Mike Brown’s staff who are still under contract.

Sources believe that assistant Mike Malone and Chris Jent would likely be a part of a potential Izzo staff with the Cavs. Izzo is also mulling several potential targets to join his staff, including ex-New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frank, and ex-Michigan State and NBA guard Eric Snow(notes).

Izzo had originally been negotiating with the Cavaliers through a third party, but has started to deal more directly with Gilbert himself in recent days, sources say. Those familiar with the situation describe Izzo at a crossroads in his life, where he feels if he ever wants to try something different, the time is now. The 55-year-old has always loved Michigan State, where he’s gone to six Final Fours in 15 years, but he’s never hid his ambition to give pro basketball a chance.

Izzo considered a five-year, $15 million offer in Atlanta in 2000, but couldn’t get past the fact that he would likely lose a lot of games. He’s turned down several overtures through the years, including several chances to interview for jobs in the past two years. This time, it could be different. Michigan State and Cleveland are now waiting on his choice.

I'm liking this Izzo thing more and more. Keeping Malone and Jent would be great moves. Snow and Frank would also be solid additions. That would be one hell of a staff.

Izzo has made it clear that he wants an established NBA mind as an assistant coach, whether it's a former NBA head coach or a top flight assistant.

He's definitely going about this the right way. I HOPE we can get him away from MSU.

Agreed. That would be a phenomenal staff!
Mike Malone is really solid. Chris Jent is a former interim head coach with Orlando and he's probably the closest to LeBron James, so keeping him makes sense. Lawrence Frank has 6 years experience as an NBA head coach. Eric Snow is very well respected, as evidenced by the fact that he got an interview for the Bulls top job 2 years ago without having any coaching experience.
Frank would probably be lead assistant, Malone the 2nd asst., Snow 3rd, & Jent 4th. Just my guess....
Realistically, any of the four could become head coaches in the NBA some day.

Izzo + Malone + Jent + Frank + Snow is money. Can't ask for a better coaching staff.

I was drunk all night. It's afternoon Friday. Please tell me we are close to getting this guy?

I don't think anyone knows..

That wouldn't be a bad staff at all. But who's going to run the offense? I'd rather get an assistant that's known for his offense. I also would like to see Kevin McHale as a big man coach.. wishful thinking, I know..

I like this thread more than the watch thread.

Probably cuz its not the watch thread.
