Finnan: CP3 wants out of NO

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One of my favorite players in the nba. Would hate to see him go 2 MIA or LAL, i mean seriously. Wish he would have demanded a trade here during the lebron FA drama

He may as well come to NY and pair with amare

The power NBA players have is getting out of control. I am sick of these million dollar bitches....unless we get him :). Which is highly unlikely

If this is true, this makes FA just that much more exciting. If it's not, it's the Hornets' way of trying to stay relevant during a time where they have nothing going on.

Pot calling the kettle...

People in glass houses...

I'm pretty sure the Hornets are more "relevant" than the Cavs right now...whatever that means anyways.

I hate to see player's demand a trade but i don't really think Paul is out of line here. His owners have been so cheap, fired his fav. coach, and never really gave him a chance to win. I think it's a diff. situation from the Lebron situation because we actually spent money and made the Cavs a contender, the hornets have been a glorified lottery team for the last couple of years.

How do you know he didn't mention it privately during the LBJ drama? Paul was one of the few people to stand up and tell LBJ to stay in Cleveland, he also signed with his agency. I don't want too many "what-ifs", but it doesn't seem unrealistic to me that while Lebron was making his decision CP3 asked him to stay in Clev and he would try to join him. Maybe he tried hard, but maybe LBJ was already set on going to that team down south.

Personally, I really hope that he goes to any one of the three mentioned on ESPN.

LA - Paul/Kobe/Gasol is good enough to win it this year and will continue to contend for as many years as Kobe has left as an alpha male. Short term I like it, but long term the team can't mess with the heat after Kobe retires.

NYK - If the Knicks were able to get 'Melo then I believe they would have the best big 3 in the league. Only problem with this is that they may have a hard time filling the bench w/o cap room and would be 2 years away from a MLE (Assuming Melo signs in 2011). The team wouldn't contend next year, and might always be a year behind the heat but I feel that there big 3 would be the best in the league (better balance than MIA).

ORL - The two weaknesses the heat appear to have are 1) Center (Z is too weak to match up with big centers) and 2) PG (No one to guard fast PGs-unless DWade can). I think ORL can take advantage of these two weaknesses by having the best center and best PG in the league. Add that to their uptemp style, and deep bench and I feel like they could win the title.

We need to stop torturing ourselves with this bullshit. No marquee superstar wants to come here.

Honestly we can dream up these scenarios where we get Chris Paul all day. In reality our situation is no better than New Orleans. Why would he ever request or approve a trade here. Give it up folks, it is not going to happen.

Sports Guy on Twitter:

He bailed 5 weeks ago. NJ trade almost happened. Everyone knew in mid-June he was gettable. RT @GregoryOdd: Thoughts on CP3 wanting to bail?

CP3 waited too long: had he gone public last month, NYK-NJ-Dal had the cap room/assets to deal. The most realistic matches now: Hou or Bos.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that his favorite team and the team run by his good buddy are now the two most likely places Paul goes.

Funny NY radio is claiming that this Paul deal will go down, funny just how they thought Lebron was a lock to the Knicks... I cannot stand these assholes in NY radio. They are acting now that Boston, LA, Dallas, Miami, Chicago have good teams it only makes sense for NY to have a good team...

this needs to stop. I hope the new CBA and impending lockout make it so that no NBA team can have more than 1 maximum contract on their roster. Let's see how much money these guys are really willing to walk away from in order to have a great team I don't want to have another 20 years of basically 4 to 5 teams controlling the NBA landscape. It's absurd.

This trend will be the absolute death of teams like the Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pacers, Bucks etc.. The league will have to move all of them to Las Vegas or Malibu or Hawaii just to give them a chance.

I miss the old NBA, this league is turning into a complete joke. The owners need to figure out a way to stop all these douchebag superstars (who happen to be friends with one another) from having so much leverage and power. Franchise tags, or something needs to be put in place

I don't want Paul if his attitude is to make another super team...this whole thing is stupid.

About the only star I respect anymore in this league is Durant. He is repping his country, loyal to his team despite not being in the most glamorous local, he is low key and genuinely humble and competitive stating he wants to go at these super teams, not join them. I also have a knew respect for Kobe...he talked a bit, he complained a bit...but actions speak louder than words...he was patient with the Lakers and he stuck with it and he played his guts out and he was rewarded. He may be a selfish ass but there is no doubt that he just wants to win basketball games.

To me acquiring Paul in a trade is pointless because he is going to be up and out of here as soon as he can. He won't work with the organization, he'll just use it like Lebron did to get himself in the most "marketable" situation he can.

If the Cavs want any chance of ever winning, they need to find guys like Durant who aren't caught up in their ego and sincerely put basketball and team first. None of this branding shit. Cavs also need to be a team that gives the unheralded guy a chance, like this Samardo Samuels, so if/when they ever become anything in the league they may feel loyalty to city and team and not run to the nearest club to celebrate how awesome they are.

Spurs are still the team I look to when I think of how the Cavs can succeed. They created culture of professionalism and loyalty and their stars have followed suit ever since. San Antonio is small market city and like Cleveland in many ways, but they managed to make themselves relevant year after year.

Honestly, I think it would take 5 or 6 years to get there, but it would be worth it to me just to make sure we didn't have a repeat of the whole Lebron thing.

Serious fuck the NBA. Players have way too much power to play just a game. Lock out. Someone have the balls to start a competitor to the NBA, cheaper players means cheaper for the fans. I will be all in if I knew guys were out their busting ass bc of their love of the game and not demanding trades while still under contract.

By the way, I don't see Paul getting traded to New York or Orlando.

Why should New Orleans just bend over like that?

Because his favorite coach is here... I understand it's not likely, but it's certainly conceivable. Stranger things have happened.

That said, there's no way it happens.

actually could take in an OK haul from Orlando or Boston.

This is bad. NBA needs to step up in the new CBA. Why would their fan base tune in for anything but the playoffs and even then, only the C.Finals and Finals? Sick of it, don't want to see it. Don't want to see super teams pulling off a globetrotter jaunt through the rest of the NBA's Washington Generals. It's anti-competition and the last time I looked, the reason I tuned into sports was to see competitive people play a competitive game.

*edit* I amy have to turn my focus to the Vikings, and I actually can't stand college basketball for reasons I won't go into on this thread.. or maybe see if Gilbert brings a NBADL team to Lakewood or something, watch that.

NO should bend Paul over and trade him to a team like the Timberwolves... I really hope NO sends him out to one of the shittiest organizations in the NBA...
