Finnan: CP3 wants out of NO

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Paul was smart and NO was smart, he'd get traded to OKC.

They have the assets, and Paul would make them an instant contender next to Durant. Unless they want to see what Westbrook develops into...

NO should bend Paul over and trade him to a team like the Timberwolves... I really hope NO sends him out to one of the shittiest organizations in the NBA...

So it's ok for the hornets to do absolutely nothing to build a team around Paul, but it's not ok for Paul to leave so he can actually play in a meaningful game? A few years ago the hornets looked to have a promising young future but the owners have been so cheap, and made such bad decisions that the hornets have 0 chance of being good. Would you stay at your job if your Boss refused to help you build your skills and develop your skills?

I really like this idea but I don't see it. The thunder would def. become better but they'd have to give up westbrook and a combination of picks/jeff green/harden. The thunder preach "family" so much that it makes it hard to believe they would be willing to have such a large overturn in their core. As much as I like Westbrook it would be amazing to see CP3 and KD tear it up (CP3 has also played a season in OKC so maybe he likes the area).

Well, actually it is OK.. if Paul was a free agent. Paul is currently under contract though.

I totally get where all the frustration is coming from here, and I don't like hearing a source say CP3 wants to be a part of a "super team" either, but I don't see anything wrong at all with him wanting out of NO. This is the best PG in the game who saw his team build into a real competitor one season, than drop to nothing not just because of some injuries and their coach being fired, but because the owner refuses to spend any money. Chris Paul is one of the best players in the game without question, and he's not in any scenario other free agents were in (even Toronto tried to build around Bosh and compete), the Hornets FO have one of the best franchise players to build around and they refuse to spend the money to do so. It's appalling, and I'm surprised it's taken him this long to start getting more public about it. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to get traded, New Orleans put themselves in this situation by not even trying to get competitive. Anyone in his shoes would do the same thing - you just had a bad injury, you aren't getting any younger, you're team will be lucky to make the playoffs, nor show any sign of improving... you demand a trade.

Having said that, New Orleans needs to be smart and just trade him where ever benefits them best. He wants out, fine - but they are the ones that need to try and come out of this on top. Get draft picks, expiring contracts, young talent... get it all. And because of that, I highly doubt he goes to any of those teams he desires.

CP3 has every right to leave his team as Lebron did for a Super Team.. in 2012 when his contract is up. It's 2010 though. Right now he signed a contract to play for the Hornets. You're one year removed from the playoffs and 2 years removed from the semi's. Time to man up and honor your deal. If you think ownership isn't doing right by you (though I'm pretty sure the checks have been clearing) you get to express that in 2012.

Regardless, this shit is ruining the NBA. It's a joke that 9 teams have won an NBA title since 1980. 9 ! MLB, a league with no cap in place, has 18 title winners since 1980. The NFL has had 14. Why bother rooting for a team with no hope?

I hope to God All Mighty that the new CBA breaks up these uber-teams and forces these jerks to honor their contracts.. heck, I hope they turn all contracts into partially guaranteed deals based on expected win totals or something, make these jerks take ownership of their team as much as the GM and coach.

Look at Lebron, he managed to get a coach and GM basically fired (ok, one quit, either way) for a team he no longer plays for. Paul is going to get a GM fired because he's not happy the team was bad last year.. guess what, douche-bag, their best player (you) sat out 37 games with an injury.

i think Paul is okay for doing this.
It's one thing when your organization does everything in its power to help you win,but the Hornets have done NOTHING to put talent around him. They aren't going anywhere, and it's not fair for Paul, who is a superstar,to be wasting his talent on a team that is competing for the 10th best record in a conference.Yes,he missed 37 games last year, but they sucked before that anyways.

They won 49 games last year and 56 the year before that. I've seen suck before, 49 wins is pretty good, and with a young star and a nice post player a little luck.. not a bad place to be. They struggled the beginning of last year, yes, but play through it. This is your team until your contract is up.

Yes the Hornets were bad last year.. if I'm the Hornets owner I'm thinking, "aren't I paying you to help make us better?" Why sign the contract if you don't think the team will deliver? How about signing a shorter deal so you can bolt like Lebron and Bosh did? (Lebron's only real fault being how he handled it via TV, imo, not in his right to leave), No, Chris? You like guaranteed money? Well I'd bet George Shinn likes guaranteed service for his guaranteed money, just a hunch.

No wonder we're headed for a lockout. Why on Earth would the owners want to stick with a system that benefits 3 or 4 teams at the whim of 7-8 players?

George Shin Shittiest = owner in the NBA

I will never forgive him for moving the Hornets out of Charlotte...

We could take him if we absorb horrible contracts from them I guess.

^^CP3 would get traded here then demand another trade out :chuckles:

NO. You sign a contract. You honor the contract. Until the rules are changed New Orleans or any other team does NOT have to trade you if they don't want to do so. His other option would be sit out the year with zero pay. Change up the rules, then fine. Just like LeFraud can lie and cheat and exploit the rules to suit himself so he can be a Robin for DWade, Paul can honor his contract and do the FA thing when the time comes around. Not until then.

CP3 isn't going anywhere until Shinn sells his share of the team to Gary Chouest. It'd be financial suicide to get rid of money maker right before he sells the team.

Chris Paul isn't going anywhere. And if he somehow does weasel his way into a trade, he sure as hell won't be coming to Cleveland.
