Game 2: Youngstown

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yea Devin Brown isn't the guy with these WRs. He's just not giving them much of a chance on routes they're pretty open on.

I think this is a year where we need to a bunch of WR screens.

As much as I hated them last year in certain games when we had a QB who could deliver the ball downfield accurately, this year I Think we need to prioritize just getting the ball to Egbuka and Harrison as much as possible.

How do we feel about Ryan day?

I think it's pretty clear that this a 2 (maybe 3) loss team. No way they are ready to compete for a title this year.

Not saying it’s going to happen, but I’m mentally preparing for a 3 loss season and the Ryan Day hot seat discussion to crank up.

They have an insane amount of work to do.

The Ryan Day seat is gonna be hot even if they only lose 1 game, if that one game is to Michigan and Michigan wins the conference again. That's all there is to that.

There's only two teams that have the talent to beat them on the schedule this year, and that's Penn State and Michigan.

Notre Dame shouldn't do it.

So if they lose 3, that's a big underachieving season and he SHOULD be fired if that happens.

Right or wrong, Gene Smith isn't going to fire Ryan Day in his last act as AD unless things really go off the rails.

I still think this team can get the job done. But the tough decisions need to be made, now, so this team can grow and find its identity.

The offensive and defensive lines may be too bad to overcome, but they can't shoot themselves in the foot by playing guys that are worse than the guys on the bench. It's McCord's job now at least until they lose a few games then who cares. No more Henderson, no more Sawyer. Ty Hamilton should be playing sparingly if at all. Tuimoloau should be at best splitting time if he's not clearly better than Curry or Jackson. Josh Simmons is just awful, I can't imagine any of the other options would be worse. If Montgomery can hold up physically then let's see him out there next week.

Indiana threw for 82 yards on 20 pass attempts and Youngstown State threw for 135 yards on 26 attempts.

The pash rush criticism, even from you, is way overblown.

Right now OSU is giving up somewhere south of 4 yards per play.

If the opposing teams are gonna play like this, where they don't challenge us down the field once, then that's every bit as good as getting sacks.

There's one team on the schedule that can (and has) beaten us playing that way most of the game.

I'll wait to see what the pass rush looks like against a team that actually makes a concerted effort to challenge us down the field.

So I didn't watch the second half but it felt like McCord was comfortable in his first set of series but when they put Devin Brown in he got a little out of his groove. McCord looked like the better QB today and I think he needs the reps going forward to get really comfortable.

I can see the potential with Devin Brown but I think it's a different style of football than the strength of this team. He isn't going to get anywhere close to the potential of this receiving corp. I think they still need to get more creative with the RBs with either of the QBs. We can't lean on the pass as heavy like we have in the last couple season.
