Get Excited Somewhere Else: John Dorsey

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don’t understand for the life of me the notion that Barkley is comparable to Zeke and Fournette.

They couldn’t be more dissimilar in their running style.

He doesn’t bring the same level of aggressiveness and downhill running that Fournette does.

Maybe he turns that on in the NFL, but the film doesn’t lie right now.

I didn't compare their running styles. I compared their potential impact. Barkley runs out of bounds too much for my liking, and doesn't always run with the power of those other guys. But he does occasionally. He's capable of running through tackles. He definitely has the strength to do it. Coach him up to run harder. That's all he needs. Maybe he'll do it when he's getting paid to do it. Other than that, he has vision, ability to make guys miss in the hole, great burst, breakaway speed, and is good catching the ball out of the backfield. He's not a powerful as Elliott or Fournette, but is much more elusive. They are different kinds of runners. But the difference is that Barkley is strong enough to run with power too. He just has to do it consistently and he would be the complete package.

It's not that it's a "bad show" per-se. I just don't like the way it leaves me feeling, knowing full well that's the intent,
condescending fuck :chuckle:

In all seriousness, I get it. It’s a rough watch. It really does leave you feeling absolutely miserable after every episode.

Not unlike your beloved Browns.

He is much more elusive, but his vision in between the tackles leaves much to be desired.

And in terms of potential impact, it’s tough to see him making the Zeke/Fournette type impact without that nasty type approach on first and second down.

Not sure he’ll get enough carries to do that, and he’s never been a guy who has thrived with a high number of carries.

I think his impact is more like a Christian McCaffrey type of player. Maybe a poor mans Alvin Kamara on a presumably worse team.

Well almost no one has a high number of carries anymore. But he'd be fine carrying 300 times a season. And assuming we get a QB in here, that would be enough to open up the passing game because of the threat of Barkley. He's a bigger, stronger, more elusive Alvin Kamara.

He's certainly not more elusive, but he is bigger and stronger.

That said, I don't know why you'd WANT Barkley getting 300 carries.

He doesn't have a great deal of overly positive carries now. But he is a big play threat, so some team should find a way to use his skillset.

He's a guy you can get creative with, not a guy you want carrying it that many times.

I'd think more like a billionaire's Alvin Kamara.

I think people presume that just because Kamara is around 215 lbs, he is a lateral runner.

The dude runs angry with the feet always churning. He has excellent vision. Now, he only gets 10-15 carries so his body doesn’t break down, but he’s a pure runner between the tackles. Watch him.

Additionally, he runs an entire route tree like a veteran receiver with great hands, even in traffic.

So, yeah, Barkley is bigger. However, Kamara is literally better in every single other way a player can be on the football field.

If he could be redrafted, Kamara would be a top 5 pick in this draft.

I don’t mean this to say that I don’t like Barkley. He’s talented. Probably going to run a 4.3 flat at 235 lbs.

Kamara is just that freaking good.

His numbers running against fronts like Ohio State and Michigan State behind a Penn State line that is still being rebuilt from the sanctions aren't that worrying to me. It's not like I saw a lot of him missing holes. You'd like for him to run a bit harder at times, but he has it in him. He just has to do it. The Penn State line play is the only reason they haven't a playoff team the last two years. But his big play ability is why I want him carrying it 300 times.

Criminal that he wasn't drafted higher last year. Though with that said he isn't exactly an interviews dream, and was criminally misused in Tennessee's system.

That's a horrible excuse.

And if he "has it in him" and didn't show it over the last three years, he ain't got it in him.

He either needs to learn it, or he'll always be just another guy at the next level.

Either way the Browns would be fools to find out at #4.

I'm not saying Kamara isn't a good back. He might well be top 5 in this draft. He is a better route runner than Barkley, and most backs for that matter. He does run harder, which he has to because he is 20 lbs. lighter. Everything else is what Barkley's game is, vision and speed, only while he's 230 lbs, squatting 600 lbs, and can make multiple cuts in a row without slowing down to break big runs. If Kamara would be top 5, so would Barkley. If the Browns left the draft with Kamara as one of their first two picks, they would be thrilled. Barkley has the potential to be better than that.

He did show it. He just didn't do it every down. If he never showed it, I wouldn't believe he could do it.

I didn't like Kamara as a prospect for the Browns right after the end of the college season because I thought he was an Eric Metcalf type. You talked me into rewatching clips of him taking hand-offs rather than his usual swing passes and then I finally saw it. It's like watching Dr. J as a defensive specialist at UMass.

I watched the college football championship closely and didn't notice Georgia throw at Minkah's guy once. Am I correct on that?

He was incredibly adept at playing the run and knowing his responsibility.

Did not see them attack his area in the pass game.

Truly a natural fit at corner who can slide into the nickel.
