Getting Rid of Cable- What am I missing?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am really sad to hear that Sony is killing their Playstation Vue streaming service. I've admittedly never tried YouTubeTV, but in comparison to the DirectTV Now/Hulu Plus/Sling TV services, PS Vue was WAY better (especially liked the user interface with the Amazon Fire TV devices). I've had it for going on 3 years now. I think Sony's marketing department really shit the bed on this one... Why put the name "Playstation" in it rather than just calling it "Sony Vue" or something to that effect?! Literally every person that I recommended it to would ask "does that mean I have to have a Playstation to watch it?" DERP.

Oh well... looks like YouTubeTV will be my next choice based on feedback here and elsewhere. Really going to miss the smooth interface of PSVue.

I think some of the problems with PS Vue was also Sony lacking owning any of their own channels and not having the advertising analytics that YouTube/Google and Hulu have.

I think the streaming wars will kill cable all together at some point. Disney and At&t just have to decide to include their Live sports channels to their Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ and HBO Max, then cable and streaming cable TV service will go under.

A Disney/ESPN exec didn't shot down the idea of adding ESPN to their streaming service recently. If they lose Monday night football or they move it to ABC, I could see them moving ESPN over to streaming.

I posted the MLB will end blackouts for in market streaming. If the NBA follows suit than the regional sports networks days are numbered. The constant disputes between cable companies and regional sports networks has to get annoying for the NBA, MLB, and NHL. If they can find a more effective way of getting to their fans, they will do it.

You can buy NBATV on its own this year on several platforms.

I do have one of those stick-on antennas but no good place to mount it...my TV is on a north-facing wall but no windows. I'd have to get a thirty foot co-ax cable and dangle it to the upstairs loft.

I think I will run ethernet to my TV as well...Not sure if it's my shitty Chromebook or Spectrum or multiple devices in use but sometimes I get DL speeds as low as like 2 mbps. That seems to compound with my Chromecast-ability.

So many projects...

Does anyone know if YouTube TV is being supported on the Amazon fire stick yet? That’s the one Hang with YT TV. Not all of the tv’s in my house are smart tv with a you tube tv app. I’m in Arizona and been using Hulu with live tv for regular viewing while watching illegal reddit streams for my Cleveland sports (the links are pretty high quality for the most part), but now with Hulu having a price increase of $10 a month, it no longer has the value that it previously had in competition with YouTube TV.

It is. They reached a deal back in October. Youtube and YoutubeTV are officially on the fire stick.

Yes they have an app on the fire stick.

I should edit, as long as it isn't 1st Gen Fire Stick/Fire TV it should work, but the 1st gens aren't supported.

Pretty much every stream is behind.

Yeah, every live stream is usually 10 seconds to a minute behind. That's normal and as long as you aren't statwatching scoreboards, you're not that far behind.

Saw where I can increase the storage in my Firestick with an USB drive and an OTG cable. Going to try that out and see if my playback speed increases.

YouTube TV is dropping Fox regional sports networks. Either Sinclair is secretly putting together their own streaming platform to sell directly to consumers or the NBA is going to get rid of the blackout rules for streaming. I guess I have to go to Hulu live for the rest of the season.

Sling lost Fox Sports Regional channels last summer and never got them back.
