Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
weird to hear he intended to work on his three point shot this year, because if anything he actually regressed this year in that department. Last year he shot 10-36 from 3, all right that's a crappy percentage (28%), but at least he was trying occasionally. This year he is 1-5 from 3 in 44 games played, so he has basically entirely stopped trying the shot.

I hope he didn't actually try hard to improve from 3 this summer. In any case, while it would obviously be fantastic if he could shoot 3s at any rate that would make people guard him, I don't have high hopes.

As much as I would like to see him shoot more, he has done just the opposite during games. Hoping the staff can get him over the hump. Can't really pinpoint why he is regressing on shooting his jump shot and 3 point shot. He shoots a little running baby hook, but that needs some work.

I like the young guy but he isn't anywhere near the old man offensively. Sr. averaged 20+ points game for 3 seasons, and was averaging over 16 starting year 2. He then kept that up for another dozen seasons.

Well if he can develop a reliable 3, he is Kevin Love.. That said, I think it's possible to develop a three, but it takes time and practice in game. So he is attempting even though it's low percentage, because that's how you learn.

I think he needs to get his free throw percentage up first though. If you can't make the shot 85 percent of the time standing still with no one in your face, then you are not likely to make the shot moving with defenders from farther out 35 percent of the time.. As a big, you get fouled more if you cant make free throws..

Love was a better free throw shooter from his first year, and got into the 80s FT pct by his second year, which was also when he achieved a 35 pct or better tre.. So Larry has work to do..

I don't think there's a realistic chance he develops a KL-quality three ball, or even shoots as well as his dad. However, if he can hit the 10 footer reliably, that will be enough so that he doesn't clog the paint. But he's still got a lot of work to do in that regard.

His dad was a good defender, and an excellent weak-side shotblocker. I think he's better -- perhaps much better -- than his dad as a defender overall. But he doesn't have the shotblocking, in part because he just doesn't have the same length.

I've heard through the grapevine that Nance has been working on his 3-pt shot the past few seasons. I'm not sure if the Cavs will utilize that or not but it's in his arsenal.

Unless he's going to turn into a 40%+ 3-pnt shooter in the next 2 months, I think we have too many proven shooters on this team for him to be expanding his skill set now. That is unless taking like one 3-pointer a game will keep defenses honest? Even then, with so many 40%+ guys, it still might be a wasted opportunity on offense. I'm sure I'm over simplifying things but I'm happy with how he's playing now.

I see no issue with giving him the green light in blow out situations , other than that he needs to stick with what he does best .

The good thing is that in the modern NBA the things that Larry Nance Jr. does well are more important to team defense than shotblocking. He is excellent in pick and rolls, whether showing and recovering, trapping, or switching. He makes passes to the roll men difficult. He makes multiple efforts and rotates instinctively. He can switch onto wings and even some guards if needed and has the footspeed and length to bother them. Just a great pickup all around.

I have a question for you posters. If people disagree with your post and put an X next to it, is that a way of getting rid of a poster if he has too many dislikes against him. If that is the case I feel like I am getting railroaded over on the football thread. I have a few guys trolling me, putting an X on anything and everything I write. I don't know the rules to the board, but I am only stating my opinion. Not looking for a fight, but not laying down for them either. Just curious how this all works. I would rather they leave me be, but it doesn't seem like it will happen.

No. It is a purely cosmetic thing that doesn't affect you in the slightest unless you let it bother you. And you shouldn't.

Feel free to pile on as many disagrees as possible. In fact, I'm perfectly happy with people giving me "disagrees" from this point forward instead of "likes". I simply do not care.

Let's see what u got in the Indians section

This is stupid, but does anyone know where to get the Hat that Nance Sr is wearing? I think that white hat with the C on it is so cool. I am obsessed with it, and that isn't even my thing. I will have to make one if I can't find it.

I am def one that thinks shot blocking is a heroic effort, and therefore really a last resort and a result of not playing d early enough. I am fine with him not blocking many shots, he seems to be in position all the time. He covers so much ground, and he is exactly what we need.

I just joined because of Nance. I commented some positive things about Josh Allen in the football part and I guess you aren't allowed to think over there. I am an Orioles fan from way back. They piss me off because they never address their pitching. Lol.

There are quite a few "homers." People that can't see outside of their team colored glasses here. Just par for the course.

I've gotten tons of dislikes and I'm a massive Clevelander / fan. So since you are not a fan and joined for one guy, better get used to it.
