Goodbye Larry Nance Jr.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I meant limited by injury. Looked great his first game back. Still doing pretty well on d, but his ability to get up quick and get lift on his shots is not there.

He and love have played well together. He had a good game, Tristan just had a monster game. Maybe his first of the year.

Tristan slimmed down which I have been calling for for months. Looked like early 2016 Tristan where he bulked up and could not jump. He slimmed down and was in great shape for the playoffs

Oh sure... I agree. He looks limited because of injury. Don't understand this.

As for TT, I just can't ignore how much his offensive game or lack thereof hurts this team on offense. He had a good game for his standards, but no matter how good he is on the boards, he still hurts this team alot on offense in terms of offensive fluidity/stagnation and makes us easier to defend.

I guess it's much better than nothing. Let's see if he can be consistent at that.

Could be the honeymoon high is wearing off and now he must do some work . It’s not like he was a world beater in LA , hell he was playing behind some stiffs and only seeing 22 minutes a night . He’s needs to be consistent (in a good way) and stay healthy if he expects a decent contract extension.

Nance was the starter at the beginning of the season with the Lakers. He started at power forward. He hurt his hand, came back and was the starter again. He got replaced in the starting lineup not because he was playing poorly, but because Randle started whining again because Nance got his job back. As soon as Randle started again the Lakers went on a huge losing streak. But Randle was happy and putting up big numbers.

Walton finally started closing out games with Nance until the trade, and the team started winning again. So Nance wasn't playing against "stiffs" in a backup role when it counted. Nance is a complete team player who puts team above himself whether he starts or plays behind stiffs. And he doesn't play any different than if he has a contract coming up one way or another. Nance doesn't dog it and it has to be a major injury to keep him out of the lineup. He does pretty well playing at the 5 considering he never even played it in college. This is the first year he has played at the 5, and only did that for 1/3 of the time with the Lakers this year.. So the Cavs are asking a lot from him. Those "stiffs" you are talking about just handed the Cavs their ass when they played last time. With both teams rosters being depleted. And as far as getting a max contract after this year, I imagine the Cavs will get a hometown deal out of Nance because Nance wants to be in Cleveland. There were a lot of teams that wanted Nance before the trade, and I don't think that will change any. But most everyone with a clue knows his home is with Cleveland.

And just so you know, the Lakers wanted to keep Nance but they had a slew of young players at forward who were all young and coming up fast. They couldn't get enough time to all of them and basically got a 1st rounder for Nance or he would still be there. That is how much they valued him. Take away LBJ and the Lakers have way more upside than the Cavs. The Lakers are very young. I have always hated the Lakers, but they will be good sooner than later unless Magic and Pelinka screw up that young core. They only really need 1 all star to close out games and keep the other team from going on long runs. I am a Nance fan if you couldn't tell. One front office guy said that Nance was one of the few NBA guys who on every possession was thinking of how he could help his team out the most on every time down the court. Not thinking of his own numbers, but on what it would take for his team to win. That is Nance to a T.

I’m a big Nance fan as well . I voted for him as 3rd banana. Just wish I knew why he never sees more than 22 minutes a game. His skills say 28-32

I wonder if it is the coaching staff watching over the Crohns. The more minutes he got with both teams this year the more his confidence grew and the better he played. Probably it let him play at a relaxed comfortable mode. One kind of has to put that on the coaching staff. Nance doesn't wear down. At Wyoming he played at 7, 200 feet elevation and never tired. I always assumed the playing minutes were on the coaches. Nance doesn't worry about stats, he mostly prided himself on effort. All I know is that all the stats show is when he is on the court everyone' stats go up for the most part. He leads by example, even though he is not considered a leader like an LBJ is.

Nance should be on the floor as much as possible, certain matchups may be tough but he'll exploit some lesser players. Use him at the 4 or 5 depending on the team matchups. I like him at the four more with Ante at the five or TT some if he shows up.

Yeah, what is going on with him? If he's still injured we need to be resting him and using this time to develop Zizic, who is now back in DNP-CD land going in to the playoffs...

Develope a 20 year old rookie as the team seeks for home court ? Defensively he’s been a disaster.

Hamstrings take a while to fully heal and be free of soreness completely.

Everyone breath with me for just a second!

He'll be back at full strength for the first round.

I hope you are right. I used to get hamstring injuries a lot. It was from favoring a knee I put off getting fixed. They are definitely a nagging type of injury that I don't feel you can play through and hope it can heal. In my experience you have to shut it down to get it to heal. But the medical field has changed since then, and who knows all the things they have to get someone to heal up faster.( My cure was advil, oxy, and beer.) Plus the training staff has equipment that also helps heal injuries faster. And don't forget about a nice looking masseuse to help even more. Nance is usually quick to heal, so he has that going for him. I really like him in there with Love. I see he was 1 for 1 on three's last game. I know he worked on his 3 point shot all summer, hopefully after this next summer it is a part of his arsenal. At least enough where they have to come out and guard him.

If he learns to blow by people with that first step that will be one more added weapon for him. Also like him to get more consistent with that baby hook. With his length he can pull it off, or dunk under with the fake like Kevin McHale and his great footwork. Put his hops and quick jumping ability to work. A rounded out Nance could develop into quite a player. I have always felt he had a high ceiling watching him through the years. He makes big jumps in his game every year. As long as he keeps doing that there is hope. Plus he has a big support network to help him out with his game. Including his father and Sr's friends, LBJ, and fellow players in the league. Nance is well liked because of his easy going nature and that he doesn't showboat. He just goes out and does his job and doesn't need a posse around him to do it. Now if he could just get that autograph part down he would be good to go.

Yeah @Midwestcav, right there with ya!
I ran track and played hoops throughout HS and I always wished I had trained my hastings more. The hammies are a complex cluster of muscles which are a part of what's known as the posterior chain. What enable's u's to stand upright vastly longer than other mammals.

Any imbalance amongst this grouping of muscles can throw the whole system into a wobble and create nagging pain/injuries.

I injured myself through working on developing my calves, quads, and glutes without properly strengthening the muscles that work in harmony and stabilize the surrounding areas. This then progressed to lower back issues that still flair up from time to time to this day. Moral of the story: don't forget the backside boys!

Does anyone know what’s going on here? Any statement from the coaching staff as to his physical condition? Nance was an absolute revelation after his arrival here during the weeks Tristan was down. I mean, he was really special on both sides of the ball. He just played 7 minutes and got one rebound in a game where we couldn’t stop anyone or get a rebound when it mattered. He was nearly invisible in the minutes he played. No bounce, none of the stong pick and roll stuff, or solid positioning on defense, just... nothing. What the hell happened?

In my opinion, having Nance back at top form is the biggest difference between the Cavs struggling to get out of the first round or being a real threat for the title. He provides everything we are missing when he is on his game. He isn’t anywhere close at the moment... can we expect him to get there?

Under-utilizing Nance in the most asinine of ways is a cardinal sin I'll never forgive Lue for.

They were such a better rebounding team with Nance alongside Love, and it is not as if they were losing much offensively, he was a threat cutting, on lobs, showed a nice touch on 12-14 ft jumpers.

Don't see how Lue can seriously expect a Green/Love pairing to not be a defensive problem. Any chance he starts Hill/Bron/Green/Love and Nance?

Lue was his coach when he first got to the Cavs and when he was starting. Lue is not his problem
