Safari Time!!

Here's some notes from Pelton on ESPN--

Notes from last off-season--

Scouting report
+ Excellent outside shooter. Also capable of creating his own shot off the dribble
+ Has increased his usage rate quickly. Likely to be Jazz's go-to scorer
+ Decent defender who can still add strength. Average rebounder

[...]

While Hayward's playmaking stands out more at small forward, the Jazz have historically defended better with him at shooting guard, where he's unlikely to play much this season. His long arms are an asset against smaller players, but bigger opponents can overpower him at times. Hayward should improve defensively as he adds strength.

And from Pelton's free agent list, Hayward comes in at #10, between Bosh (9) and Wade( 11), and 3 spots behind Parsons (7)

As much as Hayward struggled in a leading role last season, there are positives in his stat line. Hayward improved his assist rate to the point where it would be credible for a backup point guard, and also stepped up his rebounding. Most of his downturn on offense can be tied to shooting 30.4 percent from 3-point range a season after hitting at a 41.5 percent clip. Given the volatile nature of 3-point percentage, Hayward is nearly certain to do better next season.

This is one safari I am really not excited about.....

lets rock.

I really like Gordon Hayward's game, but if we're throwing max contracts around, I'd rather go all in on Chandler Parsons.

Again, how do we know he has any interest in playing here even with a max deal? These guys have to actually sign the offer sheets.

I guarantee, if you switch Hayward and Parsons, Parson flounders as the first scoring option (and the Jazz are somehow worse), and Hayward puts up much better numbers as the third option on the Rockets.

Yeah, I'm not on board with this signing at all. Not right now, not later.

But do we need another scoring wing? I mean, we don't have a center and we're banking a lot on Bennett working out.. A PF/C would be money better spent.

If we're going to waste money, I'd rather waste money on Pau Gasol on a 2 year deal with a 3rd year as mostly non-guaranteed contract giving us a great trade chip. He also won't be commanding a $15M max deal and would leave plenty of room for additional players.

Don't worry, Phoenix is now in touch with Hayward and do you really think he's going to choose 'dreary' 'ol Gotham City, err Cleveland, over Phoenix??
