Happy Trails George Hill

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With all the Delly superlatives you would think he was one of the best Pgs in the league or something.

Delly was nice for what he was, and he was all hustle and heart, but don't forget the fact that he couldn't keep up with faster PGs on the defensive end and had very average length and active hands. Offensively he could only shoot 3s when he was wide open and in rhythm, and had a pretty bad in between game other than the occasional floater.

I'm guilty of wanting to have him start at some points, but come on not everyone who can defend and shoot 3s is some better version of Delly. Like if you asked Cedi and Hill who they modeled their game after when they were young and they would say: Delly man, for sure.

Nah. Delly ruled but he only showed the prototype of what we needed next to Lebron.

Every comparison I've seen is that Hill is "souped up" or "Delly with physical tools"

Nobody is saying these guys are striving to be Delly. We just saw the success we had with that type of player playing alongside LeBron, and are excited to see that type of player WITH TALENT.

That one play where LeBron passed to him in the corner and starts coming over to set a screen but Hill just splashes the three before LeBron could get there.

Bron probably remembered how sweet it is to pass to natural spot shooters who just want to shoot after his every kickout. His dream roster. These pieces can also attack closeouts and score inside and from midrange

That was great, as was the play where Hill drove the lane, and LeBron followed, received the pass and calmly took the spot-up shot. He hasn't gotten many opportunities to be a spot-up shooter, and it's nice to see someone else deliver proper passes to him for once.

Lots of league stat guys and execs think current defensive metrics, even private team generated stats, are, for lack of a better word, trash..

Because they are. Especially the "advanced defensive" stats.

Can someone look up his advanced stats from last nights game and explain how they compared to the eye test?

Something to be said for a guy who was unrecruited in high school, building himself up at a small conference school, then going right into the Spurs organization.

Fun anecdote: my dad was the head coach at school in IUPUI's conference while Hill was there. To this day, he still contends that Hill is the toughest player he ever coached against while at that school, and they played the final four Kansas teams, Maryland, Missouri, and a number of other power conference schools.

I can remember watching George Hill in person in more than one occasion while at IUPUI. He was a monster. And those arms! My God, they were everywhere. He was like a fucking stretch armstrong.

It's too bad he's 31 and Lebron is older. He's by far the best traditional PG that Lebron has played with. Lebron's ballhandling and playmaking are so good that i wonder if we've never real seen what he can do off the ball (glimpses with the Delly PnR in the playoffs but it's Delly)

Lebron shot something over 70% in the Olympics with Kidd. That was the one that got away IMO.

The only regret I have.

LeBron with a true pass-first PG who could shoot a bit.

Can you imagine Peak Nash with Peak LeBron in MDA system?

Holy Fuck.

hey, better late than never. Useless to look back at Lebron's career and regret lost opportunities, that's a black hole -- if he had had just one more really good supporting player in his first go-round in Cleveland the Cavs might be gunning for a 12th straight Finals appearance right now.

I just hope Lebron's ISO habits aren't too deeply engrained to let him change up his game to take advantage of having Hill. The fact that even Delly got him off the ball some is a good sign.

Hill only played 24 minutes. Had 7 points and only 7 shots. Sat crunch time for a scorching hot Clarkson.

And the beauty of it is we won't hear a single negative peep about it from Hill because as he said...he'll do whatever it takes to win.

He also played some great defense on Westbrook that won't show up in the stats.

Runs the offense, plays the best PG defense we have had in God knows how long, and made a few timely baskets tonight ... He is a perfect addition and he and Clarkson are a great 1-2 at the PG spot
