Highly doubt it. They absolutely bled talent this summer when they let Beno and Casspi go and will likely Dalemebert walk. Seriously...they're letting the only guy who could be a defensive anchor walk? Why?? They're building their whole team on a hothead in Cousins and a very high usage PG in Tyreke. Their remaining frontcourt players do *not* fit together with Cousins. Jason Thompson and JJ?

Paul Westphal coached my favorite non-Cavs team of all times, '92 Phoenix Suns, so you know I'm being objective when I say Westy has gone completely off the deep end. He absolutely could not create any type of cohesive rotation last year, and I don't see it getting any better this season.

Agreed.
Sacramento is looking more like a contender for the #1 overall pick in the 2012 draft than for the playoffs. They're rebuilding and I just can't see that team going real far with this young lineup:

PG- Jimmer Fredette
SG- Tyreke Evans
SF- John Salmons
PF- JJ Hickson
C- DeMarcus Cousins

Westphal will be gone at some point in the near future and I think a lot depend on resolving the Sac situation. They've been in limbo with that and with the Maloofs' financial problems. They're such a poorly run franchise at this point, so deeply dysfunctional. But they do have some talent. The problem is that the talent does not mesh and they need leadership, both on the court and in the organization. There's little hope of this team being a playoff team in the next year or two, but with some changes, they do have good up-and-coming talent and assets.

Those of you who think Kings are lottery bound are within reason to believe that. But my statement is based on the idea that what jammer brings is the will to win. Evans,Hickson,Cousins is a really athletic and offensively skilled young corp and I think will make up for Fredettes limitations. I would also point out that the kings will have the second largest chunk of cap space when the season starts of any team in the NBA, so this is not the end of the story for the Kings.

The Kings may be offensively loaded but their defense is somewhere between disappointing and Raptors-esque. Jimmer is not very good at guarding dribble penetration and his help defense is disgusting (JJ and Cousins). When motivated, Salmons is a solid defensive piece, but at this point he has gotten to old and lost too much athleticism to be the defensive stopper he once was. I will be honest in that I know nothing of Tyreke Evans's ability to play defense, so he may be capable for all I know. Thompson is their best defensive big and that is not a good thing at all. No one else on their team that CAN play decent defense (Whiteside, D-Block, Garcia, Honeycutt?) will get consistent minutes thanks to the revolving rotation. Thus, they really won't be able to win many games.

Sure the Suns did well with few defenders, but I don't see a Nash/STAT combo on the Kings

At the beginning of last season Las Vegas gave Sacramento a 40% chance at making the playoffs. Add Fredette, Hickson, Salmons, Thornton, minus Casspi and they're more than breaking even. Not a shoe-in by any means, but better than 2.8% chance I'd say .

What Vegas predicts is irrelevant IMO.

What you need to know is this:

-the 8th seed in the West last season was Memphis, who finished with a 46-36 record.
-Sacramento finished 2nd worst in the West last season, with a 24-58 record, 22 games behind the 8th seeded Grizzlies.

The Kings roster has undergone the following changes so far:

Additions: John Salmons, Jimmer Fredette, JJ Hickson, Tyler Honeycutt
Subtractions: Beno Udrih, Omri Casspi, Samuel Dalembert

Are the Kings improved by 22 games, so they could overtake Memphis or whoever the 8th seed team is?? I think even the most optimistic Kings fans will admit the answer to that question is a resounding NO.

No, in fact they are a direct threat to our draft position. I am banking on Top 7, if not Top 5 pick.

I'm just saying stranger things have happened (Kyrie Irving). Some might say that's naive, but I think most here can agree that a little Optomism isn't such a bad thing.

While not saying the king make a leap to above 500 ball next year. they will definately be improved. You dont have to make trades to improve your roster. just letting your players develop historically has shown to improve teams year to year.

Kings did make the mistake of not retaining any veteran talent but can you seriously say these guys wont be improved next year

Demarcus Cousins 2nd year
Tyreke Evans 3rd year
Marcus Thornton 3rd year
Jason Thompson 4th year.

in fact they will have only one guy turning 30 in Francisco Garcia and John Salmon 31.

The bulk of their team will be under 25.

so odds are they will be a better team next year as guys learn the ropes in the NBA and figure out what works for them and what doesnt.

Also dont forget that as much as we bash on Hickson he is in a contract year and has brought his game along. When he is in the right spot he is a decent positional defender and can be very physical when he chooses to.

I also am not sure Hickson will be starting. He will be good for the kings off the bench rotating for Cousins and Thompson.

Salmons will be more effective for the King since his primary minutes will be at the three and wont spend as many minutes at the 2 as the bucks tried to convert him to. He is also an underrated team defender.

If fredette works out I wouldnt be surprised to see something like this
PG Fredette
SG Thornton
SF Evans
PF Thompson
C Cousin
Key rotations Salmons, Hickson, Garcia and greene

Dont forget about whiteside. while he struggles on the boards competing against other guys his size he still has alot of bright side and is a physical defender.

Eventually Thornton or Evans and Hickson or Cousins will need to go but the kings have every right to expect to improve. if they dont westphal will probably have done his last stint as an NBA head coach.

Too bad the Kings dont play in the Eastern conference! That would all but assure the 1st round pick before 2017. That being said the Western conference is getting weaker by subtraction as we have seen an exodus of players to the East coast. Fingers crossed on the Kings making the playoffs before 2017!

I think it is pretty safe to say the Kings won't be making the playoffs this season. That just seems like common sense to me. The West is just stacked.

My biggest concern is who is running the offense in Sacramento? They should start Jimmer next to Tyreke, and bring Thronton off the bench. I hope for their sake, and for the sake of that pick, that Jimmer is the next Mark Price.

Probably not. But I think the Cavs are pretty likely to get pick in the 11-14 range in 2015.

It doesnt matter what the kings do next year. the pick was a good one to get and eventually will have Value to the cavs or whoever it gets traded to

I was thinking of what would be the best course to utilize the Kings protected pick and I came up with 3 options-
A)-Nothing-Allow the pick to come to fruition worst case 2nd round pick or best case scenario ends up in the 11 slot in the future.
B)-Young proven talent-Trade pick out right to aquire young talent or package with player.
C)Better pick-Use pick in conjuction with large expiring contract or TPE ( if not expired that is ) to aquire unprotected pick.

There is risk with any of these options but the FO should do their due dillegence once it can to see what potential is available.
