"His energy was great," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. "When he came to the sideline for a timeout, I told the coaches to step aside and said, 'Bron, you take over the huddle."

This guy just does not speak/act like an NBA head coach. It is really annoying. Just keep spitting in your cup and stay out of the way MB.

I don't have a problem with this. You need your best player to lead your team and the other guys will follow. When your star player is playing like shit, that's when the coach needs to get on him.

Which is more effective:

1) Mike Brown saying "Ok guys, let's pick up our defensive intensity and get some stops. If we get some stops we can pull away in this game." (Keep in mind this is MB's mindset for every game, every scenario)

-or-

2) LeBron saying: "Guys, pick this shit up and play some fucking defense! This is fucking embarrassing that they're even making this a game right now! Let's pick this shit up and blow their asses out of here!"

In certain instances, that is always the smart move to do. A player can show more emotion than the coaching staff, can get his team mates fired up and ready to roll.

It's not like it happens every game....

I am positive Kobe, Dwyane, Melo, Bosh have all been told to do so...or have done so.

No biggie

Gotta be honest. I don't really like when Mike Brown slurps LBJ like that (this particular example isn't that bad, this is more of a general theme)

I don't think it will "hurt us" because Lebron knows what he's doing out there on the floor, but in terms of Lebron's development I think it's not good at all.

Lebron basically knows he can do whatever he wants on the floor with no repercussion, and he is also never critiqued or criticized in any real fashion because everyone is afraid of possibly pissing him off.

Even with Jordan, Phil Jackson wouldn't be afraid to challenge him if needed. Or with Kobe when he got into a 1 on 1 duel with LBJ Phil pulled him and sat his ass on the bench for a few mins. Mike Brown would never do that...

My point being alot of correctable flaws in Lebron's game, bad habits - are never corrected because he is never really "coached".

For Lebron to reach his absolute peak I think he would benefit from a HOF level coach who would call him out when necessary or occasionally push him to expand his game in areas he isn't as comfortable, like establishing proper position on the low block, limiting the heat checks, etc.

At the same time I don't think Mike Brown is as clueless as he seems, I think he knows what he's doing when he says this kind of stuff to the press. He knows Lebron will hear about it and bottom line Brown knows where his bread is buttered....

Mike Brown's philosophy with Lebron starts at 3:20...like I said earlier in the season, they might win in spite of coach Brown

I had no drama with it at all. LeBron was feeling it and others feed off that. Having a coach come in will never have that same effect, no matter who that coach is. At times we need to ride his emotional wave as it will take us further then any pep talk from Coach Brown (or Phil, Pop, etc).

I think Brown saw the fire in Lebron and decided it was best to let him say it. Accomplished two things. Lebron got his frustration off his chest, and the rest of the team recognized what they needed to do. There is not a player on the cavs that does not see that this could be a ring year, but to get there they need lebron committed. Lebron states the obvious, but it is a simple reminder that they have to commit to their part if they want to be more than witnesses.

Whatever the fallout on Brown's handling of Z, this particular move was a smart one.

C'mon guys, wtf this is nitpicking now. Some star players have been criticised in the past for not speaking up in the huddle and shiet. This has nothing to do with bad coaching. If you've never been in a basketball huddle where the best player is taking charge, then you haven't played competitive basketball in your life. Stick to the rec leagues.

The Mike Brown hate on this forum is funny.

Mike Brown is a players coach, thats why his team loves him and plays their best for him.
This was a great move by the coach. I think Brown is setting a new standard in coaching.
What other coach allows for so much input from other coaches/players etc?

I think the rest of the league will take notice and start doing the same.

Only Pop, Sloan and Phil Jackson are better coaches in the NBA right now than Mike Brown. About the only 3 coaches I'd take over Brown right now.

The only people that are blowing this out of proportion are people that I almost guarantee have never coached a decently talented team before.

Sometimes you make the players figure it out themselves. Often, it works.

More mountains out of molehills.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Aaron Brooks did this the other day in their win at GSW, really from time to time you expect your players to do this. I am sure every teams has it happen a couple times a year.

The main problem is you guys see the coach player relationship like one you had in high school, in the professional sports, and in particular the NBA the coach is an equal and just a different part of the team.

There are a lot of things to bag on Brown for, but this is a non issue.
