Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Made a huge 3 down the stretch too... stepped up even when it'd been an overall ugly night.

The good news is that there is plenty of time for him to break out of the slump.

The bad news is that Shump's "slumps" look like "rock bottom".

I think he had a few bad games and now is struggling mentally. I wish he didn't get in his own head like this.

But then I see him make certain defensive plays and remember just why he is so damn valuable.

I think he needs to bring back the high-top.

Shump has been really bad off late. A couple of good defensive plays aside he has been rubbish on both ends of the floor. Honestly, for all his offensive struggles, Liggins has offered us more than Shump has in the last one month.

I am wondering how long do Griff and co remain patient with Shump. I don't think we will trade him this season but if we get a solid offer, I can see Griff cashing on it.

Liggins and Shump have a lot of similarities. The biggest difference is Liggins knows he isn't very good.

We can just tell prospective buyers that he's in an Iman Slumpert.

Oy.

No one wants to trade the guy when he's playing well, because hey, he's so valuable.

Then no one wants to trade him when he's playing poorly, because hey, that's selling low.

This guy right here is Iman Shumpert. This is what he was last year. It's what he's been most of his career. A very up and down, inconsistent player who should never try and do anything at all on offense but doesn't know that nor will ever learn that.

How the hell has he fallen off this bad defensively, its like hes constantly lost!. He loses his man so many times I wonder if its some new experimental defensive scheme, seems like he dies on screens worse than Kyrie and I really didn't think that possible.

You are right, Rich.

I can't speak for others but I genuinely thought this could have been his breakout year here since his rookie season with Knicks after which he got injured. But he has gone back to being the same player again.

Gotta save energy on d to dominate on offense.

As I have stated before I have watched almost every pro game Shump has played since his first with the Knicks and quite frankly he was a much better player with the Knicks. Very much a part of their offense and much better on D. Definitely gives the appearance of a frustrated player. Again he should be traded so he can have a chance to improve his game and the Cavs can develope other players. Pray this happens every day. Was Kyrie ball hog really 5 for 18. That's why they lost not Shump and Korver going 2 for 10. Utah didn't score a lot of points so it's on our offensive Gunners.

One thing to keep in mind is J.R.'s absence has done two things.

1. It has thrust Shump in to a role he's not been playing for 2 years. That can be tough for someone who had previously adjusted to their place in the rotation.

2. J.R.'s absence has also removed Shump's closest confidant on the team. He's the guy Shump leans on off the court and I think that certainly has an effect when going through a slump.

Throw in he's being asked to play a bit out of position with no backup PG and you can see how all these things might be snowballing on him.

He played so well earlier in the year but as his role has adjusted, due to personnel and injury issues, he's certainly bottomed out. Hopefully he can bounce back after this road trip.
