Isaiah Crowell, UDFA/Social Media Pioneer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol hey don't snark the messenger... I had no clue this even happened until I got in the car on my way home from work and the way Hooley was reacting you would've thought Crowell actually reenacted the image himself. He was a little over the top, IMO.

Yes, it's a fucked up image and even in the heat of the moment it was in very poor taste and Crowell should clearly know better. However, I'm not a fan of a media member, who has influence, trying to cut off someone's livelihood over an emotional response just because he personally takes offense to it.

Fine him, give him community service to help repair his image, etc. But I think cutting him is a little extreme. Probably in the minority on this one, but as a human being that's made emotional mistakes of my own (granted not of this magnitude)... I don't want to wish a persons life ruined over the same.
Dude... so much fucking this.

Remember that bitch that tweeted at the dude's employer who tweeted something stupid like 'Riley Curry smells' asking if the boss approves of his employee's behavior and then the dude got fired?

Like shit... be able to seperate your petty online bullshit and someone's fucking livlihood. Yeah he should be careful what he tweets, everyone should. But the bitch just lost a man his job. Over an internet fight. How can people be so unsympathetic. Warriors fans annoy the hell out of me on social media but I don't track down their damn employers.

Here's an idea: Instead of cutting his stupid ass.(Which he rightly deserves) ................Have him ride with the CPD on nightshift for a week and see just what its like. Have him strap up a bullet proof vest, all the gear and ride with them into some of the most fucked up neighborhoods Cleveland has to offer. Scare the LIVING FUCKING SHIT out of him. Maybe, just maybe, his dumb ass will see how lucky he is to earn a living playing a motherfucking GAME.

The truth is that the professional sports teams and all sorts of other organizations have suspended/fired people for making offensive social media posts or statements. For example:

The
Miami Dolphins have reinstated safety Don Jones after he was suspended following a homophobic tweet about St. Louis Rams defensive end Michael Sam during draft weekend, FOX Sports has learned.

The Dolphins announced May 11 that Jones was fined and indefinitely excused from their offseason workout program. Jones posted the phrases “OMG” (Oh My God) and “horrible” when televised draft coverage showed Sam kissing his boyfriend after his seventh-round selection.

Other players have been suspended or even cut for making racist statements or social media comments. So, is what Crowell did equal to that, or not as bad?

It's a knotty problem, because what is the narrative going to be if a different player is suspended for making a racist/homophobic statement on social media, while nothing happens to Crowell?

Just cut him and replace him with the Watson kid.

I didn't hear the talk radio stuff. But if some guy had posted a picture of a white guy slitting a BLM protestor's throat, what would the reaction have been?

I said it a couple of years ago, but I think the NFL got into some murky waters when it started suspending players for off-field activities unrelated to the team. As soon as you start doing that, people are going to be measuring penalties against each other, and looking for consistency. And that's the kind of thing that inevitably is going to start ticking off parts of the fanbase.

On the flip side, maybe some guys have family members as cops. Maybe some other guys are more active in/sympathetic to BLM and see it as more of a political statement.

It's just a mess, really, and only likely to get worse over time unless the social media fad dies down, which is really unlikely.

This is somehow Trump and Fox News' fault.

I agree with you on some levels, a company getting involved in your outside affairs is a slippery slope. I will say this, i think at this point - it should be commin knowledge, when you work for a company, you represent them inside and out. I am not advocating for him to be dismissed, however, a nice conversation about using common sense should be in order.

Personally, i do not have have any form of social media. From what i understand, a simple fix could be not having a public profile? Post all the "controversial" images you want.

Yeah, it's a tough call. But I think there should be more slack for "employees" than for "managers". The problem is that the NFL appears already to have decided not to operate that way. So if you suspend a guy for "OMG" at Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend, where does Crowell's act rank on that scale?

Very true and it is probably a case of "we have gone this far..."

I can only assume there is some verbiage within players contracts about "outside conduct" and the use of social media.

To be a knucklehead or not to be, that is the question.

You don't think this is a little bit more extreme? He posted a picture of a cop getting his throat slit. The only thing you're to insinuate is that he advocates that. Its inexcusable. He deleted it and said he sorry because he knows how much fucking trouble he's in, not because he knows it's wrong. I can't believe anyone is actually falling for that schtick.

Somebody said what would happen if somebody had posted a picture of a protester getting their throats slit? I dont think we even need to go there because we all know the answer.

It absolutely is and I am not falling for the schtick. Obviously that is how Crowell feels.

This is the part of the quote I was really agreeing with

"Yes, it's a fucked up image and even in the heat of the moment it was in very poor taste and Crowell should clearly know better. However, I'm not a fan of a media member, who has influence, trying to cut off someone's livelihood over an emotional response just because he personally takes offense to it."

I see.

I just find it hilarious people have no problem with this and are fine with slapping him on the wrist and going back to rooting for this guy? You...really feel comfortable rooting for this guy? I'm sure the NFL is littered with scumbags that don't put their scumbaggery out in the light like the moronic ones do, but KNOWING this is how this guy feels, you're comfortable having him on the team? Pretty sad, IMO.

Crowell was one of my favorite Browns, but after that post I can't say I would ever buy his jersey.

I think he's a dumbass and I definitely have a problem with his post. I just don't think he should lose his job for it.

I mean, whatever- I'm not going to debate about peoples' social media posts affecting their work. In some instances I think it's silly, such as the example you posted of a guy trolling an athlete on twitter. In other cases, I would have no problem with it. Sometimes you cross a line and it can't just be ignored. Crowell did. Anything depicting and advocating violence is off limits IMO. Wouldn't care if he got cut.
