Source: Cleveland Cavaliers sign Miami Heat's Jamario Moon to Offer Sheet

The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their offseason remodeling by signing restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet, according to NBA front-office sources.

Although the full details of the offer sheet are unlikely to be known until Monday, when the contract is submitted to the league office, sources told ESPN.com that the deal Moon signed Friday spans at least two years.

The Miami Heat will have seven days to match the offer once it's formally processed, but Cleveland would appear to have a good chance of landing Moon given Miami's well-chronicled desire to avoid new contracts longer than one year to protect its 2010 salary-cap space.

There are exceptions to that policy, as evidenced by Miami's well-chronicled attempts to sign Lamar Odom away from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Heat, though, have multiple players at Moon's position -- Daequan Cook, James Jones and Yakhouba Diawara -- even if they don't land Odom, raising doubts about their ability to keep him.

After trading for Shaquille O'Neal and signing Anthony Parker to take their payroll beyond the $80 million mark, Cleveland has spent the past week looking for free-agent bargains as it tries to add depth at the wing positions and find a power forward that can stretch the floor with his jumper. The Cavs had been linked in recent days to forwards such as Rob Kurz and Sean May before signing Moon.

I want to ask where this came from, but I was beaten to the punch.

I will say this, to EVERYONE that says Danny Ferry isn't doing anything :fu:. Ok maybe that was a little harsh.

Many people on this site have continually said that Ferry is working to make things happen. First Shaq, then Anthony Parker, now (potentially) Jamario Moon. If you still think Ferry isn't doing anything, :fu: once again. Sorry, I'm feeling harsh.

Now you can argue whether this is a good move, that's your prerogative.

But stop saying that Ferry isn't doing anything.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

Awesome!

Ferry always working out of left field. Folks haven't been mentioning Moon.

I especially like the timing of this, with the whole Odom thing going on right now.

I think Miami should match, but lets hope they don't.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

If true i think its a great pick up.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

I'd take Moon for sure........You can never have enough athletic wings who can defend. yes he does take some ill advised shots, but that will change since he will actually be on a title contender and be playing with much more talent.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

According to the article, this happened on Friday. Windhorst didn't know this as the beat reporter? :dunno:

They were hoping to keep it quiet, so quiet that Miami doesn't even know about it for 8 days....oh well....

(j/k)

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

I watched Moon in Toronto & he should be a solid addition to the Cavaliers. He's very athletic, likes cutting to the basket & does a decent job on the defensive end. The only problem i saw with Moon, was that he seems to forget his role & take questionable shots.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

No it won't be hard to match for Miami, but as the article mentions the Heat are trying to go after Odom with some of the space that they have and they might not want to match Moon's offer for that reason.

I also wouldn't necessarily say we are done for the off season because I could still see a trade happening this off season if another team is looking to dump some salary. Even if this was our last move for now I would be pretty happy with what we have done and we would actually have some pretty good back ups coming off the bench this season compared to the inconsistent Wally and Boobie we had last year.

I talked to three different people with the front office yesterday, not one mentioned anything about this. And we were talking about specific options we were looking at doing.

More centered on PF trade options, but , nonetheless I would think that it would have been mentioned.

All I can say is it's odd. His name has been brought up numerous times as an option but not a likely one. I think Miami's run at Odom maybe gave us the idea that it may prevent them from matching what we are offering, and time isn't of the essence right now so we decided we could take this shot, and not risk much by waiting the seven days now... just thinking out loud.

But, I just see it as curious that nothing was mentioned in the conversations I had yesterday.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

Great signing if it happens! I like him, he is a long athletic player! I still want Kleiza or Barnes but hey if they rounds out our additions (I think Ferry has one more thing up his sleeve) then I'm happy.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

If we talked about Anthony Parker not having those "NBA minutes" on his body, then Jamario is positioned even better.

He may be 29, but played on 16 teams before the Heat. Only 4200 NBA minutes in 3 seasons.

Still got good explosion and is versatile for 6'8, and his 3 pt % has increased each year in the league. 33%, 34%, 37%. Really reliable at the line also. I like it a lot.

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

This signing is brought to you by the performance of:

Re: Cavs sign Jamario Moon to offer sheet

Are we thinking BAE, or the rest of the MLE?

He had a .465 efg% on jumpers with both Miami and Toronto (interestingly the exact same number with each)...

he might work really well in a Lebron at PF type mold, think of a defensive lineup like: West, Parker, Moon, LBJ, Shaq/AV
