Scott said he would slowly transition JJ out of the center position, and he implied it would reduce his productivity. But JJ has did not make the most of his opportunities in this particular game.
That said this particular game we dominated until we started playing Eyenga, Parker, Sessions, Samuels and JJ with 5 min left in the first half. During that 5 minutes we made two treys and two free throws but missed 3 midrange jumpers and a layup. Coughed up two bad passes, commited a shooting foul and got blocked twice in the lane both Ramon, both blocked by the rad man.
Another oddity is that Samuels played without a rest until 6 min left in the third. The team had scored 3 points in the 3'rd at that point. In the next 6 miuntes they scored 16. After JJ makes series of mistakes, Scott puts Samardo back in with seven minutes to play with Davis, Gibson, Parker and Graham ??? and smardo does not touch the ball again unless he gets a rebound.
So I am thinking Scott was riding Samardo to see how long he can play before he is gassed, and then went to JJ thinking he would play the rest of the game. JJ loses focus and Scott yanks him. I think when we look at these games we have to recognize that Scott is less interested in winning right now than he is in developing his young players and measuring what he has got to work with. There is no other way to interpret the lineups he used in this game anyway. We know he likes Samardo's work ethic. He has not made similar comments about JJ's work ethic and I think that is a hint for JJ.
