Not impressed. He's of course correct but he also didn't need to be an asshole about it. What's wrong with saying something like "I let him go because the birth of a child is more important than any basketball game. We are happy for him and will welcome him back when he's ready to rejoin the team"?

Don't need to try to humiliate a young reporter just doing his job. That just comes across as a useless power play and punching down at that.

Shades of Blatt, to be honest, in terms of his ability to handle media attention.

I remember him as an arrogant asshole when he was a player, seems like he hasn't changed.

Perhaps it got lost in the translation, but the way this guy asked the question in Lithuanian just sounded arrogant/stupid, like he wanted to stir some shit up. I remember one time when the Lithuanian national team got back from the EuroBasket where they placed 3rd (and it was a great accomplishment) and they were greeted by thousands of people in the airport... Some young journalist then asked Jasikevicius if he wants to say anything to the people who stayed at home because they think the team did poorly... Some of these journalists are truly incompetent imbeciles looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

If he can’t handle this stuff, then the NBA is really not for him.

WTF are you talking about?? He handled the question 100% perfectly!! He was 100% correct and tried to teach a bit of a life lesson to a young reporter that seemed to be wanting to stir shit up.

Have to be a moron (or a crybaby like so many in our society now these days) to think he was "arrogant" or anything of the sort.

Nah live in Europe with many Lithuanian friend just how it is the dudes a beast

Sarunas would destroy clarksons face 4 times a game and it would be amazing

But Jasikevicius did handle it. Based on your concern, the one who apparently can't handle it is the reporter, so perhaps covering professional basketball is not really for him.

Agreed. After watching this video, I was impressed with his ability to remain calm, collected, and clear in his point. It was obvious the reporter was trying to poke at him in the follow up questions.

That reporter wasn't really asking a true question - he was taking a shot at the player and implicitly accusing him of having messed up priorities.

So when Jasikevicius answered that question, he was defending a player against a garbage accusation, and making if very clear that if anyone had a problem with what the player did, they'd need to go through Jasikevicius first rather than pick on that player. He also was speaking more broadly to the fans and explaining - in unmistakeable terms - why it was the right decision.

It was a perfect answer that very likely made the coach more popular with his players, and that kneecapped any lingering fan resentment over the player being absent.

The only loser in that exchange was the reporter, who has only himself to blame for asking that question in the first place.

He wasn’t trying to “teach a life lesson,” he was at best trying to scare reporters away from this line of questioning. So let’s not be dishonest here. Nobody sane uses a postgame presser to “teach a life lesson” - it’s not exactly a great venue for it. And it’s not like he was revealing some sacred truth either, it was a pretty trite cliche, to be frank.

The reporter’s tone might have been off, I don’t know, I don’t speak Lithuanian. But asking about a player’s absence certainly is a legit line of inquiry and not “trying to stir shit up.”

The NBA has an 82-game season, with countless press availabilities. How many stupid, annoying, superficial, wrongly worded questions does a HC have to answer? They have to be much more professional than this. That’s my concern with him, because I saw famed EuroLeague tough guy David Blatt struggle and flame out with the exact same tack.

Oh, and please do fuck back off to your middle school with that sophomoric name calling and your double spaced sentences.

lol what has talking to reporters have anything to do with being a good basketball coach? I’m happy he had his players back and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind and put his relation ship within the media on the line to defend one of his guys

Pop and Steve Kerr “teach life lessons” at pressers all the time.

And, if a coach is trying to discourage reporters from “that line of questioning” when that questioning is an attempt to discredit their players priorities, I’m 1000% in support of that coach, and his players would be, too.

As much as we, as fans, want insight into our favorite teams, coaches don’t *owe* those things to us. Coach Saras is standing up for his player. A player who really is in the happiest time of his life. And Saras not only accepting his player partake in that moment, but encouraging him to do so, is ABSOLUTELY commendable.

Sign me up.

:chuckle::clap: Those damn double spaced sentences! Still stand by what I said. Cry away if you want to. You are the only one who thinks the coach was out of line in any way...that says everything.
