So the primary argument seems to be Mitchell and "role players" ( Allen was playing like a star. Mind you) would be destroyed in the postseason and that's why you need to integrate Mobley and Garland.

OK. Well, that's conjecture.

Meanwhile, we have actual, real world evidence that the Big 4 lineup gets destroyed in the playoffs as, well, it got destroyed in last year's playoffs.
They've played five post-season games together.

When you reduce Wade's minutes and completely remove Merrill's minutes (+ maybe a little from Niang and Strus) and replace them with Mobley and Garland, you lose out so much on shooting. On the other hand, with Mitchell and LeVert at PG, the team all of a sudden had such good size at every position. With Mitchell being a good kickout passer and finding Allen as the roll man, the team just fit so well. That team won 19 out of 20 games at one point as we all know.

Until something changes, I'm afraid that the current team at full health is the more talented, ill-fitting team that will struggle to win games consistently as we've seen. I don't think it's a coincidence the Cavs started off last season blistering hot with Garland out.

Now, the roster is what it is. It's the coach's job to be creative and maybe even go back to what worked? I don't think any coach in the league would have the balls to not start Garland and Mobley, so not knocking him there. But beyond that, it's in JB's DNA to play 8 - 8.5-man rotation and, when push comes to shove, rely only on the veteran dudes he trusts, rather than assessing things like who's been hot, what does the opponent's lineup look like, what lineups fit, etc. This is the same man who inexplicably decided to start LeVert in the middle of the playoff series last year. Really hope he proves me wrong, but it has not been fun watching this team these past several games.

I'm glad he stuck with that lineup, but honestly he put Niang on Tatum for a bit and they just ran up the score. And he wouldn't take him out. The game would have been a hell of a lot closer had he half a brain about that guy. And frankly he got completely bailed out by what might end up being Wades greatest performance ever, just like he did with Strus the other night.

Oh and thankfully he challenged that last play. Otherwise, how was this a well coached game?

Dean Wade played amazing and took over in the 4th quarter...and he only played 21 minutes in total! Hyper efficient game for him and he played awesome defense as usual.

And yet Georges Niang still got more minutes than Wade overall, at 27!

JBB doesn't have a clue what he's doing, which guys to play when, and which lineups lead to success, and we 100% would have lost this game if it wasn't for Mobley's injury giving Wade a shot.

JBB’s decision to use his FIRST challenge early in the 4th earned us a point and we still had a second challenge left. We were able to use that second challenge because he did NOT take the last timeout after Boston went up 104-103 but let the team play and The Magnificent Dean Wade WHAM WITH TWO HANDS got the win, the much maligned Darius Garland stopped Tatum and the Secaucus team did us a solid.

Fair to criticize the man when he screws up but it’s also fair to acknowledge when he makes good decisions. Of course, being fair is not required of anyone.

Yes, the challenges were great, but JBB track record suggests this would be an anomoly , similar to the broken clock accuracy.

Disagree with the track record. We’ve been doing well on challenges for at least a couple of months.

Not to mention there is an actual reason for the improvement, and that is the assistant coach reviewing the play and signaling for a challenge. Not to take credit from JBB, this is something he should be doing.

But when you can explain something through a reason then it isn't flukey...

From Lloyd;

“Teams decide that they’re going to trap Donovan, right? They want to get the ball out of his hands and force somebody else to make a play,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said when I asked him about playing this week without Mitchell and how that could benefit them in the future. “Now you have guys who’ve had the experience of going through these things and being able to decide how to make a play and what plays to make. It also helps me as a coach figure out other sets that we can run to keep the ball moving, and then give a guy an opportunity to play and attack a defense that’s already in rotation.”
