John Hollinger's Cavaliers playoff post mortem

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Our best bet is to see if Koby can clear some cap space via trades and look at players like Obrie, Kuzma, Middleton etc

Kuzma is a chucker who can't shoot. He can't play SF either how does he fit exactly?

Oubre can play SF but is a chucker who can't shoot.

Middleton would be a good add but he's also 32 and looked pretty bad in the regular season for the Bucks this season.

Yep, but at the time the cost was too great. Let's see if the price has changed.
What was the cost??? I know they weren't asking for either of the big four or first rounders!
So what/who were they asking for?? Okoro? Cedi? Wade?
Second round picks???

They likely were asking for a 1st round pick(or what they considered to be the equivalent of a 1st) to recoup the one they spent last summer to acquire him.

I read somewhere that the Nets were asking for a first round pick for Royce?

He will be 30, 6'6", and shot 38% from 3. Older, lacks true SF length, and his three point shooting is good, but it's not elite. He would struggle against longer wings and he's not quick enough to guard smaller guards.

I would've hesitated too if that was their asking price.

He is actually 6-4. He plays bigger then his size. But he really wouldn't help solve the Cavs issues of needing someone to guard bigger wings. He would provide the floor spacing we are desperate for though.

The main reason we hesitated is because we had no choice. Not yet eligible to trade our 2031 1st

We can trade our 2024 1st rd pick the second after we make the selection in July 2024

We can offer teams a 2030 pick swap this offseason.

We become eligible to trade our 2031 1st round pick on the first day of the new league year in Julne 2024 IF we are not over the second tax threshold at that time. The new CBA makes several tweaks to make it harder on teams over the second tax threshold to continue to add players

-can only trade 1st six years out instead of 7 years like the rest of the teams

-can not sign a player in the buy out market

-lose access to the smaller TaxPlayer MLE(if that rule was in place last offseason GS wouldn’t have been able to sign Donte Divincenzo for example)

Getting back to Royce O’Neal or similar trade market targets, these are the assets we have to use this offseason:

- players on our roster currently under contract

- LeVert via a S&T

- 2030 Pick Swap

- Second round picks

- draft rights to oversea stashes like Diop and Travers

I believe we can trade our 2024 first rounder the minute the 2024 draft is on the clock and open for business

Well we agree on the day and the fact that we can’t trade it this offseason or at this coming seasons trade deadline.

Royce O'Neal is emphatically not a scorer. He puts points up at a lower rate than Okoro. Percentages are not enough; volume is needed and if a player has never scored very much and is close to 30 years old it's very risky to assume he can just shoot more.

He can probably help us a bit but I don't see him as a significant upgrade over what we have. I'd be hesitant to use significant assets on him.

Who is actually gettable for Allen? I dont think anyone is available worth the strict talent downgrade

Exactly. We would also be selling low on Allen after he basically shit the bed in the Knicks series

With that said, he’s one of very few high level tradeable assets we have

He is friends with Mitchell, he is longer than Okoro, can even play some small ball PF, and shoots 4-5.5 3's a game at 39% the last 3 years. He is a role player that will fit a need. But significant assets? No, but worth some assets. Player and a couple of 2nd rounders?
