JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I remember all the vitriol that was spewed at me when I called this dude's deal an aberration.

How does it look now? Hey look at the bright side, it's ONLY 3 more years of an untradeable contract.

He had a freak thumb injury and is dealing with very serious personal issues with his newborn daughter.

But hey, twist the real issue to make yourself seem intelligent all you want.

Guy gave it his absolute ALL for one more fat contract. Now he's laying back cashing checks with little reason to dive for a loose ball.

I like JR.

But shit is shit.

I think you're being unfair to JR. Would you be 100% at work if you were in his current situation?

You do realize he was injured and his daughter is fighting for her life all at the same time right?

Either issue is enough, but both at once is devastating.

Yes I'm aware of it and backed him several times, but I'm done now. He's a shell.

His mind obviously isn't right, and we can say he's hurting the team more than helping and when that's the case, time to get shut down for the year so he can go be with his family, and we as fans don't have to make excuses for his lost season.

This is the sad truth. He probably doesn't even sleep at night, so how can you play a proffesional basketball game with athletes perfectly prepped to attack you?

Was he trying to seem intelligent? Lol. I don't think it's working.

JR could EASILY turn it on starting Thursday night. Or in a week, or in the first round...or the second, etc..

We need him.

Kyrie was pretty bad all of last year post injury, then eventually got into a rhythm and got his wind right, and then he was a monster in the playoffs.

JR has always been streaky somewhat, he absolutely has the ability to find his stroke, and when/(or IF) he finds his stroke, his confidence everywhere else will be evident.

He also hasn't even been back that long yet. You are giving up on him after a few bad weeks coming off that long layoff/his daughters issues? Already? His wind isn't even back. It's still a bit off. But nothing gets you in shape quite like NBA basketball, and we still have 9 more games before the playoffs even start. His wind will improve, his legs will get stronger. I'm not sure if he'll get his rhythm, but it's far from hopeless.

I hope you're right, I hope JR returns to himself, the guy that made our starting 5 have like a 80 win percentage it seemed.

But after every bad game all the way into a possible finals, I can't deal with the talk of his personal problems effecting him. I just can't. Id rather him be shut down and be with his family...

He is the only one giving effort on defense right now. For that alone we need him in our starting lineup.

We can just agree to disagree, I believe in the sad truth concerning JR.

It's been a trend all season with him, he was bad before injury, after, and when I'm saying bad, more his offense, his IQ on offense, his defense sure is respectable, but he misses shots, and takes dumb shots that has low percentages of going in anyways.

A 2017 miracle would be JR returning to 2016 form.

He also missed training camp, and has never had his wind at any point this entire season. He was finally starting to come on a little bit, looked super active on the court for like a week or so, and then he broke his thumb.

I'm not saying he's DEFINITELY going to get it together. This could very well end up a lost season. That's the reality.

But he certainly has the ability to. Without a doubt. JR could shoot 27% until we're down 2-0 in the finals...

But JR is a shooter. Shooters shoot. He could turn around and hit 30 threes over the last 5 games and help us repeat. JR is the ultimate irrational confidence, "this shot is going in" guy. His confidence is down right now, but as soon as he gets a GLIMPSE of the old JR, gets a LITTLE BIT of confidence in himself....the JR that single-handedly got us back into a tie in the third quarter of game 7 could appear.

JR just needs to keep playing his ass off through the end of the season. He needs to run himself back into game shape, he needs to get his legs and wind back, and he needs to keep hoisting shots.

The worse fans in the world are the ones that look only at basketball and treat these guys like they are products.

They don't realize these guys are human. They have family problems, fears, and need time to adjust. Honestly, with all the problems the smiths are having with the baby and his thumb I wouldn't have been shocked or mad if he had sat out the rest of the season. I doubt any father would hold it against him.

Every breath could have been his little girls last. But No, You tools think he needs to be in the Gym 24 hours a day after a surgery and just forget about his 1 pound daughter and not think about his family.

It's incredible to me that he is playing right now. He is by far our best perimeter defender even when not in game shape. He has only played 11 games and only a few with the starters. Cav rotations are a disheveled mess right now and no one is playing well. But this is the time for to brag about how you called it and how he only played for a big contract. I would say he is more than earning his contract by playing right now. And yes, His D is good enough to start even without his shot falling.

Yeah, don't think anybody here said that. JR has all my wishes and condolences.

What we do expect is for him to start earning that enormous paycheck he signed with the Cavs this fall. Everybody has personal matters to deal with, but you still have an obligation to your place of business. It's called being a professional. Frye lost both of his parents this year yet nobody stops to consider that when they're castigating him for his on-court struggles.

JR has large responsibilities to this team commensurate with the size of the contract he held out for. All some of us are hoping for is that he starts to fulfill them.

He looks great early on. 2 3's , 2 nice dishes to TT and a steal.

This is the JR difference maker we have been missing. Hope this is the beginning of his return.

Looked really good early tonight. Ended up being played for way too long consecutively (surprise), and ran out of gas down the stretch chasing Butler around.
