JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kawhi, Giannis, Durant and Luke Babbit are all better than him..
Durant is the only one clearly better than PG13 IMO.

Giannis is an athletic freak that impact the game in so many ways, yet has a hard time shooting outside of 15 feet (27% from 3) and isn't exactly lighting the world on fire outside of game 1. Showing that he can infact be planned against.

Kawhi gets his status elevated simply because of his defensive capability. He can surely get his, but lets not act like he hangs 30+ plus on people regularly. He will score within the system, but at the end of the day, you can defend him.

PG13 has it all offensively. More well rounded and dangerous than the 2 above.

Durant & Babbit do not need to be acknowledged (both are GOAT status lol).

Just wanna say that PG is like really really good. He is either 2nd or 3rd best sf in the game. He is not easily stopped.
I agree with that, and don't expect JR to adequately defend him. But saying that he did is contrary to what happened. The Pipe was pretty impotent against PG.

Paul George averaged almost 29 ppg that series; he got what he wanted when JR was "covering" him. .

I think this is over stated. PG averaged 43 mins a game, averaged 22 shots per game, and shot on average 8 FT per game. With all of this, he shot 38%, and if the 28 points he averaged, almost 7 came from FT's. So yes, he did have a high ppg, but it was not an efficient number, and more because he played so many mins.

George is a playoff performer. He didn't get to the rim at will or anything, he hit a lot of tough jumpers all series. Shumpert was able to bother him more, but Shump is also a better physical matchup with George. There's also something to be said for changing up looks on a guy mid-, game/series. JR was a mismatch in favor George and competed well all series. Especially since he was battling a hamstring. I never thought "wow we need to get JR off of this guy for the rest of the game". George was high volume, mediocre efficiency. JR did a pretty good job. That's exactly what you want to force out of a guy like George. PPG is such an incomplete way of evaluating how well a guy was defended.

I think you're trying too hard to obfuscate JR's struggles. Guy is not playing well. I understand that he's likeable and has had a lot of personal shit to deal with this year, but it's time he get his head straight...we're in the trenches here and it's only going to get more intense. He's not earning his paycheck and it really starts counting from here on out.

He played 4 games. Left one injured, had a good game 3, and defended the other teams best player for the majority of the series. It's not like he was throwing up 1-9s. He was just not getting many shots at all offensively, a lot of which isn't even controlled by him.

He definitely was not at his best, he's got room for improvement, but compared to some of the awful stretches he's had this year, I thought he wasnt terrible overall. And hopefully he can play a little better going forward.

So how about that "get that shit outta here" block he had on George?

There was a play earlier in the game that had me just giving up on JR, where PG13 faked a drive then stepped back to drain a wide open three with nobody closing on him. JR got faked out of his jock which happens buy he gave absolutely zero effort to get back to contest.

I was hoping Lue would pull JR and go with Shump pretty much this whole series based on the performance of each player.

Hopefully JR turns himself around.

PG pushed off something fierce on that play. His lack of effort to get up seemed to be directed more to the refs.

Anyone have the numbers on PG when guarded by a certain guy? Against LeBron he was 8/20, which was actually above his series average (38.6%).

The only thing I know is I want PG paired with Bronnie and Kyrie.

Not this year.

Kawhi scored more, at slightly higher efficiency.

Kawhi has become one of the best jump shooters in the NBA. It seems like he never misses when he is open and hits plenty of contested shots too. And this year his footwork is better than ever before. The way he uses his pivot foot on the catch, the way he creates space with his jab step, etc. is reminiscent of Kobe Bryant. He's not anywhere near the passer that LeBron, Harden, and even Westbrook are. But Kawhi has become a dynamic scorer who is more than capable of creating his own shot.

Not to mention 4-5 years younger. Kawhi is only 25. Crazy.
