JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Judging by Game 1 in last year's Finals life with Lebron comes at JR a little too fast too.

Somebody said on another thread that JR Smith look disinterest on the bench, I actually saw the opposite of him yesterday he seems Like he was playing the cheerleader role pretty good ......I don’t see why not he has 17 million reasons to sit back in just chill......

Windy on the hoop collective podcast pointed out that JRs contract is grandfathered into the old CBA so next summer he can be trade as his whole salary vs a contract like George Hill's who can only be traded for the guaranteed portion.

His contract is actually a valuable asset now. He is only guaranteed 3.4 million dollars next year but could bring back a player making like 15-18 million dollars today. The Cavs could use him to bring in an asset in exchange for taking a bad contract, or maybe use him to get off of Tristan's contract somehow in a bigger trade.

I wonder if Houston would give up an asset to move off of Brandon Knights contract and take on JR, especially if they don't get Jimmy Butler. They seem to need the added depth and shooting. They are currently 1-5.

That makes him a unique and even bigger asset. Any team that trades for him now essentially can use him almost like cap space next summer.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out buddy . . .

Don't you mean "bowl of soup" ? Or maybe 'the Pipe"?

JR's effort was uneven and he had his share of problems, but he was great in the finals the year the Cavs won it all, always kept me entertained, and used to live around the corner from me, so he was sort of like a neighbor that I talked about but never hung out with or talked to.

I'll miss him, even though he's played like crap since getting the fat contract.

Not sure we can move JR without taking on a more onerous contract in return. I also don't see us waiving him given his contract structure and the grandfathering of his non-guaranteed money next year (h/t to Windy).

Unfortunately - I don't see JR going anywhere before next summer. He's a sunk cost of the 2016 championship and will be forever revered in Cleveland for his antics and play that season.

It was only 2 years ago when people were smearing me with red Xs for proclaiming how bad JR's contract was.

At no point did he ever come close to living up to it. Loved you from the trade through the Finals win JR, but you became a dogshit player with a horrible attitude after LeBron got you that contract.

Get the fuck out of here pronto.

The problem was never giving guys like JR and TT the money they wanted...the cavs didn't have a choice. They were in a salary cap situation that wouldn't have aloud them to replace them. This was always the end game.

Also good luck finding someone to take JR. If someone wanted him he would have already been gone.

Bullshit; they had a choice to let the market dictate their worth. TT was a RFA who didn't get ONE offer while JR was an UFA who got ZILCH...and yet the Cavs bet against themselves and grossly overpaid.

Griffin got arm-barred by LeBron and cried uncle before the pressure was even applied.
