JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the Cavs want Barrett and are trying to work out possible compensation to move up to #3. #13 for JR and #26 most likely has been leaked because they are shopping that around with our roster trying to move up further.

I hope not. RJ is not Doncic he's not worth going all in on. Would be extremely short sighted to move everything for RJ Barrett.

I'm getting the feeling that if JR was going to be traded it would have been done by now. It's not a simple trade because of the salaries involved.. This is not a trade that comes up at the spur of the moment.
Also Miami seems to be the only team serious about the trade. They are bidding low.

May depend on whether they want 2019 or 2020 compensation. Trade during draft for 2019 pick and after for a 2020 pick.

A move like Brandon Knight and #13 for Ian Mahinmi and #9 could be something that I could see happening. Clarkson could be in the trade instead of Knight. It gives the Wizards someone to fill in for Wall for a year and they give up Mahinmi who is pretty useless at this point.

That's fine. I would just be annoyed if we jumped up to 13 just to turn around and give 5+13 for Barrett. At this point of the rebuild its better to take multiple shots at players then going all in on one guy unless that guy is Zion.

Totally agree. I’m concerned they’re going balls to the wall for RJ as well.

Kyler is saying Jr and 26 to Miami and cavs get 13th pick could be our draft day trade tomorrow.
Unless it's for one of the expirings, not a chance. If we're taking on James Johnson then no way I just swap a pick with them. That clears two max slots for them in the upcoming offseason. Might be enough for Butler to sign a one year MLE knowing they have cap space next season.

It's not like we won't take best offer available though. Of course in negotiations we are asking for 13 straight up, but when push comes to shove if 13 and Johnson for 26 and JR is the best deal on the table from all teams, we take it. Only worth what someone's willing to pay.

Here are the Heat contracts:

Supposedly they are buying out Ryan Anderson. Waiters & James Johnson seem to be the two best options. However, since Johnson has a player option for 2020-21, we would be taking on additional salary with him. That would seem to warrant a second draft asset being included on the deal, as a sweetener.

Hopefully, the Cavaliers have other options because there is nothing like some competition to drive up the price on a deal.

No, it was never a trade likely to take place before draft night. They’d want to see how the board shakes out before they accept anything.

The Cavs have plenty of offers on the table for it.

Charlotte at #12
Miami at #13
Orlando at #16
OKC at #21

All of these have been looking to dump salary.

We’ll be looking for the right combination of pick and how bad that contact is coming back (1 year vs 2 year deal).

Also, remember that New Orleans is still shopping #4. In an effort to acquire #4, the Cavaliers are likely in a holding pattern as the Pels sort through offers all the way until the start of the draft.

Sure, the market determines it. I know Steve. He's getting what the Heat want to do in a vacuum because that's his source. But other competition can force the Heat to give more than what they're comfortable with.

If Charlotte, OKC, Miami, and others are interested, the price climbs.

The Bucks traded the Tony Snell and the #30 pick to the Pistons for Jon Leuer.

So, that not so exciting option is off the table.

Exactly! I think they prefer a 2020 pick over 2019, but we will see what happens tonight.

Page 1, 2nd reply...spooky.

That entire post was kinda on point. He was Denver JR for about 1.5 years, we won a title partly because of it, he got big paid because of it, and now we're probably going to get a late or fringe lotto pick thanks in part to Griff and crew's foresight.

I believe he was referring to Huber post. Finally getting rid of the guy that takes to many bad shots. In regards to Waiters and being ironic that JR in the end fit that description but yes you nailed it. JR 1.5 years he gave a shit. After that ring he returned to that Knicks guy.

Kyler mentioned the cavs and hawks have discussed a JR for Bazemore swap,,no reference of what compensation would come
from Atlanta for taking Bazemore.
