The hand injuries are clearly affecting his ability to maintain his grip on the ball and the Pacers are keying on banging and ripping Love's hand. I would wager after getting his already painful left hand abused it just gets weaker and more painful, and I have no doubt it doesn't help with his three point shooting stroke.

But, just ignore all that and continue to bash the guy for gutting it out to play through the injuries.
If he can't hold onto the ball then he shouldn't be playing. He got completely emasculated last night. I honestly felt bad for him it was that bad.

The difference in this series for Love is that he needs to start dishing out the damage instead of constantly taking it. He's trying to finesse past guys who simply aren't going for the ball (jersey pulls, tugging his elbows, hitting his injured hand) and he's coming out looking pathetic visually as he then compounds the issue by giving the ref a long look then barely jogging back on a Pacers fast break. He's in a slump, he's hurt (losing the ball due to poor grip), it's a bad match-up playing against length at the 5, sure all those things can be true but he's exhibiting the body language of someone who looks defeated and that cannot happen

Love did have a quiet series against the Pacers last year, it could be they are just a bad match up for him. His only had game 2 with a real impact and that was in large part down to getting to the line for 12 Fts. Only had 8 in this series so far, he has been very bad but the Pacers are getting away with murder on the inside.

It's funny because Indiana only has 3 players left from the roster they had last playoffs: Thad Young, Myles Turner, and Lance. Obviously Young and Turner are the exact guys he's playing against so your point could still stand. But man, those dudes aren't that great of players at all. Love is supposed to be our 2nd option. A 2nd option on a contender shouldn't have more bad matchups than good ones.

Our inability to take advantage of Turner defending JR or anybody besides Love has been the issue on offense to be honest. Young defends Love well as he's more mobile on the perimeter and has enough length to bother Love's shot. They should run some off-ball action to get Young off Love and on JR, which is a match-up I like on offense. Green and JR need to play well and hit some shots or else Turner is just going to continue playing free safety.

Thad Young is the worst kind of match-up for Love. Long, strong, still athletic, and savvy as hell. Turner is a very good perimeter defender for his size. Lance bothers everybody because he hacks, grabs and shoves with complete impunity and the refs give him a pass on 80% of what should be called fouls.

Indy is possibly the worst match-up for Love in the league, and to make things worse Love lost all the strength in his left hand and they're focusing on attacking that injury. If anybody thinks that hand doesn't hurt like hell and get worse as the game goes on, you don't know what the hell you're talking about or you never had a thumb injury.

I'd prefer a one handed Kevin playing than a two handed TT. We all know Lue isn't putting in Z and Jeff is far worse at PF/C than Kevin with a bad thumb.

So not many alternatives. Kevin could be more effective than he is right now with proper game-planning and seeing that game-plan through. The first half of game two being an example.

I'd add that if he was a offensive lineman in football, or a defensive player, etc., he could play with hit. But a basketball player, receiver/tight end...it is going to inhibit your ability to catch and hold securely the ball. Basketball is probably the worst sport in which to have such an injury on an off-hand.

This. Love is playing through an injury and people ignore that fact and just pile on.

@Out of the Rafters at the Q quoted a really good article about Thaddeus Young --he was listed in the Top 5 defensive players at every position. In essence, he's pretty much the perfect guy to give Kevin Love fits:

No. 2 Power Forward: Thaddeus Young, Indiana Pacers (90 Defense Score)

If you're a stretch 4, stop trying to score against Thaddeus Young.
Seriously. Just stop it....

And do what instead? Just quit? Play 4v5 cause Thaddeus Young is a mix of Rodman and Pippen? lol

Young isn't that good...lol

He is in the 41th Percentile in overall defensive efficiency and ranked 153rd out of 243 Forwards.

He is just average defending the 3pt line and average defending catch and shoot...

Average defending in the post and slighly below average defending Spot Ups.

Are those regular season numbers?

No, not "just quit". Just keep that in mind before castigating our one-thumbed power forward.

How many excuses is Love going to get? How many playoff series need to go by where we say "but he's injured" before we start discussing his ability to stay healthy and play within his role on this team?

Simply put, Kevin has been terrible so far in this series, and this isn't the first playoff series where his performance was well below where it should have been.
