Cleveland Cavaliers' Notes
* The team is looking better since LeBron’s return, but needs to pick up their inconsistent offense and continue playing solid, rotating defense.
* Hitting foul shots and limiting turnovers will be key, as when Cleveland controls both, they are in the driver’s seat, controlling their destiny (rarely losing).
* Luke Jackson seems streaky thus far behind the line, therefore, it would be encouraging to see him turn it on and break the slump.
* Cleveland has won games thus far in scrappy fashion. Coach Brown is more concerned with defense than offense for the time being. But as the regular season approaches, being able to execute sets becomes more important.
* Damon Jones woke up last game, nailing a barrage of 3-balls. LeBron and Z will be counting on Jones to keep Boston honest.
Boston Celtics' Notes
* Boston has had recent struggles offensively (when Pierce is off, the team cannot produce points).
* With Tony Allen’s legal situation making news, is the team focused on basketball or distracted by the negative press?
* As Boston’s preseason plays out, the crowded backcourt should be watched. The Celtics have many options with Dickau, Banks, and West. In years past, Banks gave the Cavaliers trouble with his hard-nosed defense.
* Gerald Greene is always worth keeping an eye out for the occasional highlight play. The Celtics are considering sending him down to the NBDL, so these preseason games might be the last chance for Greene prove himself.
* Al Jefferson is a young kid who is offensively talented and has a mean streak. Look for him to be active on the glass. For all Jefferson’s talent, he is a very poor defender at times and might find himself being attacked by Henderson and Marshall.
Overview
Nothing like a spirited preseason game against the Celtics. This game is very winnable for the wine and gold. Get Z off to a quick start, establish the shooters and ride the James train. The Celtics will try to outhustle our squad, but if Cleveland matches each furry with equal intensity, victory will be won.
