LeBron James

Funny thing about sitting Lebron is the starting unit with JR smith at SF makes more sense.

Then you have 3 shooters and two drivers and the spacing works.

Starting Lebron and you have 2 shooters and 3 players wanting to drive, doesnt work well for spacing.

Kind of Ironic if Lebron misses opening night.

This is part of the reason I think Lue named Wade the starter (at least for now). I think Lue is playing the long game here because he knows IT will be starting once he's healthy. The starting lineup the team has now with IT instead of Rose makes sense since IT has incredible range.

Then, of course, there's the fact that the bench unit of Rose-JR-Korver-Green-TT has the real ability to just come in and demolish teams, particularly second units. Seeing the unevenness of the starters compared to that second unit on Tuesday was a little jarring.

I think its becuase Wade's ego is bigger than Jr's

I really think its that simple.

If i was coach, IT is a bench spark the entire year, JR starts at sg, and this team gets a ton of rest going into the finals.

Having IT off the bench for change of pace for 25-30 minutes playing with different and difficult sets will challenge anyone out there including GS. Our advantage this year is depth and we have the type of depth to be able to play full out for all 48 minutes and wear KD and the rest of the bitches out.

I just feel like Rose, even if JR is at the 2, is not maximized playing next to LeBron. That guy is a totally different player when he's surrounded by four shooters and a big like TT.

Now, if LeBron and the team actually want to commit to a free-wheeling offense, then it could work. However, I just don't know if they're willing or able to do so.

They may choose to look old and slow but they don't have to.
-Starting Wade with Rose makes no sense
-I don't mind getting minuts for Love at C but going right away to starting and blowing up a starting lineup that has been tremendous makes little sense
-Trusting Shumpert to do anything good consistently makes sense.

Rather go with TT, Love, Lebron, JR, Rose and then go with Wade, Cedi, Crowder, Korver and Zizic off the bench. The rookies will have a rough time to start but having quality vets around them will help thru the process and fix some of those old and slow issues. Wade as playmaker with Cedi in transition gives us a completely different look

This is so obvious but Lue will never do it unless his hand is forced. You forgot Green also, should definitely be in the bench rotation.

You guys are right, we got to get this worked out with the lineups. Like with Rose, maybe he feels he can't play his game with LBJ right there in his face. He seems more free wheelin when he's running things and I'm good with that.
Initially I thought Love at the five might work but in the tiny sample he looked like a fish out of water. And Crowder seemed left out on plays too. Maybe I'm being impatient. We can try things buts lets get this right sooner rather than later.

IMO, it doesn't troll us for him to have a great game or complete game. As a fanbase on the whole, we loved Kyrie and wanted him to lead the Cavs for the next 7-8 years.

As a fanbase, no one was clamoring to trade Kyrie.
As an organization, no one was clamoring to trade Kyrie.
As teammates, no one was clamoring to trade Kyrie.

Kyrie's gone because he demanded a trade out. There was no proactive movement to get him out of here or even test his market value. It was all reactive to his trade demand and doing the best we could in a package after that.

So he may want to make a statement or send a message to the public/media as a whole, but he has no basis to "show the Cavs fans what they're missing" He dumped us, not the other way around.

I didn’t say he wanted to show us what we are missing. That wasn’t my point. He has heard the noise about his flaws and we’ve all seen how capable he is of being that complete player on occasion that we all thought he should be.

So I disagree. If he goes out there and gets 10 dimes while being uber efficient and trying hard on defense.. he’s trolling someone. Cause he wasn’t doing that here even though we (and LeBron among many others) knew he was capable.

Your math is off, if we start TT, then the most shooters we can have is 3.

I think starting Rose is fine, but we cant have two players like Rose starting which is the issue. JR needs to start, just makes more sense.

Yup, my mistake.

Bron can help resolve some of our spacing issues if he's aggressive early on with his shot. I know he likes to defer mostly at the start to get guys going but he could really help stretch the defense. Interestingly he shot 40 and 38% from 3 his last 2 years in Miami. Would be nice to see him hit those numbers again.

Lebron can help resolve our spacing issues if he finaly decides to be the Roll Man in the PnR rather than the Ball Handler. He only needs to play like this when we have both Wade and Rose on the floor.

Then you can decide to attack with either Rose/Lebron or Wade/Lebron and only have one of them standing at the 3pt line.. Unfortunately, Lebron for some odd reason never wanted to be that type of player.
He has been by far more productive playing Off-Ball.

Having Lebron play as a Roll-Man makes him a far more dangerous threat, because he is a much bigger threat closer to the basket with his finishing and passing than he is from beyond the arc as a ball handler. The Defense has less time to plan when he gets the ball closet to the basket and therefore his TO% will go down as a result aswell.

As a PnR Roll Man Lebron is ranked in the 96 Percentile(Volume isn't great obviously, but it's consistent over the years) and is able to generate 1.43 PPP. Off Cuts he is able to generate 1.56 PPP and is ranked in the 94 Percentile. In Transition he is able to generate 1.21 PPP and is in the 70 Percentile (It's down because of his high TO Rate, bit he shoots 70% in transition, by far the most efficient).

Lebron as a Ball Handler is able to generate 0.96 PPP and is ranked in the 83 Percentile.. not bad right? but it's still not even close in generating the most efficient shot, especially when you consider the fact that we have another 3 dominant players in the roster and two of them in Rose and Wade aren't that far off and are able to generate 0.90 PPP, 0.89 Respectively on teams with far less individual talent. Then you have IT who is by far the best PnR Ball handler and is able to generate 1.04 PPP and is in the 94 Percentile.

If we want to beat the Warriors we need to change the way we attack. Cavs were the best Isolation team in the league at 0.99 PPP (not good enough to beat the Warriors) and had by far the most isolation plays called and they also lost perhaps the best isolation scorer in the league in Irving.

If we want to beat the Warriors we need to beat them at their own game. They generate the best PPP off of Cuts, Off-Screens, Transition and Spot-Ups. So Unless we somehow become one of the best defensive teams in the league, we need to switch to a motion based offense because they generate far more points off of Cuts/Spot ups/Transition/Screens than we do off of Isolation/PnR/Etc.

The thing is, with the way our roster is built atm, we can perhaps be even better at their own game if the players were willing to change the way they play. We have some elite Spot Up shooters, Cutters, Transition players and it's all about the system at this point. Transition points, Cuts, Scoring off-screens even if you are at the bottom you still generate more PPP than the most elite players that generate their points in Isolation/PnR/etc. Our first line of attack should always be in Transition, Cuts and Off-Ball.

Moving Love to C is perhaps a very good thing. It limits the opposition transition points because we don't crash the offensive boards as often, we limit the opposition offensive rebounding because Kevin Love is the best outlet passer in the league and it's a risk to crash the Boards with him at Center. We also limit scoring off cuts/screens if we play switching defense.. and we also bait teams to Post Ups and Isolation which are one of the least efficient shots.

Having TT crash the boards on offense against starting lineups was detrimental to this team.. we had the worst transition defense mainly because of that. Having TT crash the boards against weak second units that are weak on the boards and are also far less dangerous in transition is a huge net positive.

I wish Lebron would buy in, because this team really doesn't play to it's full potential. We can be as dangerous and perhaps even more than GSW if we change the way we play.

“I never played against Wilt Chamberlain,” he said. “I never played against Jerry West. To now say that one’s greater than the other is being a little bit unfair … I won six championships. Bill Russell won 11. Does that make Bill Russell better than me or make me better than him? No, because we played in different eras.”

Hey guys, MJ said something really intelligent and not petty for once in regards to other athletes that compare to him.

good post Sir'Dom. Now email it to Lue.

Well Lue was right about something. We needed to play faster and we were one of the best teams in transition, problem is that we were still outside the top 5 in transition attempts. Now that we have a far better personnel for that, we should try to run much more.

We are never going to be a good half court team that scores off of cuts and screens because we have no good screeners in the starting lineup. Both Crowder and Love are bad screeners and Lebron just doesn't participate in that act at all.

GSW were so good off of cuts because they had Bogut and now they have a very good replacement in Zaza and they obviously have Green who is a very good screener aswell.
