Nobody seems to consider what is a very likely scenario... that there is a pretty good chance there won't be any player on the trade market who is worth the Nets pick. There is a LOT of built in uncertainty as so much can change between the trade deadline on Feb. 8th and the draft lottery on May 15th.
If the right player isn't available then there is a very strong case to be made that keeping the pick is in Lebron's best long term interest if he sticks around. As many have pointed out, once the pick is slotted after the lottery it then has tangible value instead of projected value.
Surely Lebron knows that the pick will be worth a lot more just before the draft than it will be at the trade deadline no matter how you slice it, unless the right player in terms of talent and fit is available.
Agreed. I feel the safest bet is to try and make trades that would get rid of our dead weight (TT, JR, Shump etc) and acquire pieces that inch us closer (some people have said guys like Bazemore, Robin Lopez etc) shore up our weaknesses and who knows? Maybe one the the key warrior players suffer an injury or something.
Let’s say we did in fact get the guys I listed (not sure about the salary, just spitballing here):
IT (healthy) /Rose/Calderon
Bazemore/Wade/Korver
Lebron/Green/Crowder
Love/
Lopez/Frye
Not bad, we’d extend our dominance on the east for a couple more years IMO...and with the way BK has been trending down, what if we land a top 5 pick?
We’ll have a better idea of which players will be available this offseason. There’s no one worth the pick that will be available at the trade deadline...just ride it out this year and hopefully Lebron will see that we still can make moves this summer and entice him to stay. If not, a potential top 5 pick to build around is the next best thing possible for us.
We need youth so we can actually practice throughout the season lol. Hopefully get a better coach too but I’m not holding my breath on that one.
