LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So The Ringer is having a Lebron vs MJ week. Some good stuff so far. This will tide y'll through the next 24 hours waiting for basketball again:

"The King in Winter":

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/2/19/17025446/lebron-jordan-aging-decline

Talks about how Lebron can set himself apart from MJ through longevity and sheer career production. Nice piece, but does make some judgement calls I disagree with -- that Giannis and Durant have caught up to Lebron as perimeter players/overall producers.

"How Lebron Can Make A Case Against Jordan In the GOAT Debate"

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/...-michael-jordan-statistical-head-to-head-edge

Some fantastic projections of Lebron's potential career stats, which have a great chance of being totally unprecedented. You will love fantasizing about Lebron totally lapping the rest of the NBA field in basically everything, becoming the first and only member of the 40,000/11,000/11,000 club, AND DOING IT ALL IN A CLEVELAND UNIFORM!

"Life Alongside Jordan and Lebron"

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/2/20/17029798/brendan-haywood-michael-jordan-lebron-james

Only four players have played with both Lebron and MJ. This is an interview with one of them, Brendan Haywood. (Although counting him means you have a generous definition of "played" -- for Haywood it's more like "practiced" with both of them). No surprises here -- Jordan is basically an asshole, Lebron is not an asshole (is a "people person").

I generally find the Ringer's basketball articles to be nowhere near the quality of Grantland's old stuff (not to mention very biased towards the Warriors and the Celtics - two of my least favorite teams in the NBA). A lot of their writers seem like they never played basketball in their life and just focus entirely on stats. I do like Jason Concepcion though for his wit. Regardless, those articles were interesting...thanks for sharing.

They’re really a bunch of white nerds.

- fairly white guy.

Anyway, that Hayward article continues to perpetuate the sad reality that pro athletes are some of the least insightful people when it comes to their sport. Outside of cool anecdotes, they generally provide nothing. LeBron is a good teammate because he gives away gifts? That’s all he had to say?!

I think it's more that Brendan Haywood in particular is dumb. I mean, it's Brendan Haywood. I actually believe that the really top-level basketball players are pretty shrewd and intelligent. But there is very little percentage for them in being totally honest about their views on what they see behind the scenes.

Grantland discovered Zach Lowe who is by far the most interesting basketball writer around, even though I'm not sure he ever played ball either. Agreed that Ringer is far inferior, but can't figure out if it's just that they don't have Lowe or that their model of short frequent articles + lots of podcasts fucks up their writers. The level of insight you see there is not greater than here, in fact it's often inferior, and they are paid.

But I love reading articles about shit I'm obsessed with even if they aren't great. Plus there's no b-ball till tomorrow

Grantland didn’t discover Zach Lowe. He wrote for SI before joining Grantland. His profile definitely went up at Grantland though.

Just dropping in to say The Ringer sucks.

Also, I stopped reading Zach Lowe because he finds a way to shoehorn something about the Warriors into what seems like every article he writes. We get it, dude. They give you a hard-on and Bob Myers is your buddy.

Really like LeBron’s post game interview , very positive and upbeat. Understands the situation and looking forward to the challenge . I think he staying beyond this season . He’s has a totally different mind set since the trades .

I blame Jeff Van Gundy, for having his constant pessimism rub off on Zach.

NBA talk has been condensed to:

(1) Crown the Warriors
(2) Cavs drama/LeBron FA
(3) Lakers FA (tied to #2)

Zach doesn’t focus on those things as much as the rest. He will do a deep dive into the Denver Nuggets. The other clowns aren’t doing that.

LeBron should get additional salary for keeping things interesting. If LeBron retired today, there would be a huge void in terms of the NBA product. Nobody has the impact he has on AND off the court. Maybe Embiid but he has health concerns and Giannis wows on the court but doesn’t say much. Kawhi who is a top 5 player disappeared and nobody cares (outside of Spurs fans). KD is a bitch who ruined the league and simultaneously dampened the flame Curry had going by joining him. Curry has a lackluster personality anyway.

LeBron made some silly mistakes yesterday but all around he played well. Yeh, we lost, but his body language wasn't horrible like it was pre-trade deadline so that is crucial going forward.

He understands it's not going to be all roses and dandelions with this many new faces. I noticed yesterday when Hood missed the corner 3 (really badly) LeBron went up to him and kinda dabbed him like he wanted him to keep shooting. That's a little thing that is so important going forward because these young guys need his confidence to get where we need them to be.

When LeBron “turns it on” and starts doing that thing where he drives to the hoop, spins/lowers his shoulder for an automatic bucket...it’s one of the craziest things I’ve seen. He’s 33 and playing football out there. 7 footers getting ragdolled. It’s too bad cardio is a factor because it’s literally unstoppable.

LeBron James, in his 15th season, with his 11th triple-double of the season tonight.

Of all the players to ever play in the NBA, there have only been 24 others by players playing ANYWHERE BETWEEN their 15th season and the end of their career.

Jason Kidd (x7)
Kobe Bryant (x5)
Pau Gasol (x3)
Paul Pierce (x3)
Vlade Divac
Tim Duncan
Elvin Hayes
Mark Jackson
Karl Malone
Charles Oakley
Zach Randolph

LeBron will probably be on that list with a "(x35)" by his name before it's all said and done. Maybe more.
