LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
ESPN Reports:
James became the fifth player in league history with five 40-point triple-doubles, according to the Elias Sports Bureau research, and he did it on the day he won Eastern Conference Player of the Week for a record 60th time (and the third time this season).
In my post above I counted seven 40-point triple-doubles from a list of all of his 40 pt games, one was in the finals, the rest in regular season. Whose count is correct?

I know he bitches and moans and is moody, has a massive ego (like any other all time great)

But this guy is the BEST player ever, he may not ever get recognition as the greatest ever

But strictly in terms of basketball, LeBron James is the best player to ever live, and honestly its not that close.

LeBron's averaging his most ppg since the 09/10 season, and his most rebounds and assists ever. That's... Just incredible. Players aren't supposed to be in their prime in year 15, let alone be head and shoulders above every other player in the league.

LeBron is just getting started , he’s still trending upwards. He may not hit his peak for another year or 2 .

Those who put Jordan ahead of LeBron either talk about their finals records or intangibles like "will to win" that you can't measure. It's never on court stuff. They never say "oh Jordan was better at x, y, z". It's dumb shit like "Lebron just doesn't have that look in his eye that Jordan had," or "derp 6>3, end of discussion!"

Lebron's a better rebounder and passer. He can guard more positions. Statistically he's a better shooter despite not really having a consistent jumper. Jordan never shot over 50% from the field after turning 29. Lebron's done it four of his five seasons after turning 29. Heck, Kobe never shot over 47% from the field for his entire CAREER!! And there are people who put Kobe over Bron because "5>3". The hate LeBron gets from casual fans shows that they think he's a threat to their boy Jordan's legacy. Putting Kobe over him serves as a buffer between the two.

Hey, you never know. If 5 years ago I had said "LeBron would arguably be playing at his best ever in year 15" people would think I was insane. That doesn't happen in basketball. I don't know if there's anything the man could do that would surprise me at this point.

I realize it is just sports, but those same people are not critical thinkers. They value emotion over reason, so they come to fallacious conclusions. Please don't take them seriously about, well, anything.

Here we go again... trying to compare what LeBron has done to past players (aka GOAT candidate).

LeBron as a player is the most well-rounded in NBA history from start to finish (I'd call him the king of all trades). And is one of a kind on the stat sheet (30.000 points, 8.000 rebounds, 8.000 assists). But there's no way to truly compare him to the others until he finishes his own career.

As a small forward, yes... he is the greatest at that position (passed Bird a few seasons ago). But you still have Jordan (who's combination of stats and success are most balanced), Magic (who's team of the decade dominated while forced into early retirement), and Kareem (who played one of the longest careers at the highest level).

What about Bill Russell (who simply dominated the 60s)? Or Wilt Chamberlain (who is arguably the greatest stat stuffer in a short timespan 1960-1968)? I'm still not sure that Tim Duncan isn't ahead of him (he still has 2 more championships and I'd consider him the greatest power forward in NBA history)?

For a lot of us, we didn't get a chance to see some of these legends in their prime on live tv. LeBron has a lot to measure up to. And it wouldn't hurt to win at least one more championship (4 would be more than some of these other guys, like Bird and Chamberlain)...

LOL. This whole LeBron/MJ debate reminds me of Danny Ainge's most trusted player evaluator on the Celtics, the "Brain Doctor," Jon Niednagel.

Niednagel has worked for Ainge since the 1990s, including with the Phoenix Suns, and he's developed a bit of following around the NBA for his unusual method of assessing athletes using a system called "Brain Typing."

Anyway, Niednagel has argued for years that MJ is inherently superior to LeBron because of MJ's "Brain Type." Jordan's "Brain Type," ISTP, is considered the best type in basketball: they are intense, logical, more competitive, better decision makers, better at making clutch shots, better leaders, and more emotionally stable than those with LeBron's type, ESFP.

LeBron's type technically has better vision (spatial awareness), gross motor proficiency (uses of the large muscles), and inherent athleticism, but they are mentally weaker leaders because they are so emotional. In support of Niednagel's belief, you guys sure do trash LeBron a lot here for those very things. For those of you who demand concrete stats, LeBron does have one of the worst game-winning shot percentages:

http://www.espn.com/blog/marc-stein/post/_/id/4396/clutch-shots-are-tough-just-ask-lebron-james

Other major NBA talents past and present with James' type, according to Niednagel, are Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, Chris Paul, James Harden, Kevin Durant. All of those guys are extreme natural talents, but they are known for lots of smiles and/or lack of competitiveness, not killer instinct.

Meanwhile, other players with MJ's type include Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon (the only player in league history whose playoff statistics go up in all the following five categories: FG%, FT%, PPG, RPG, and APG), Jerry West, Shaquille O'Neal, Moses Malone, and John Stockton.

Niednagel also argues that he is able to see and analyze logical truth and reality better than most other people because of his own "Brain Type," ISTJ, a rare type that he claims is nonetheless found in a few basketball coaches (including Steve Kerr and John Wooden). He says most men, journalists, and sports fans are ENTP, a type that allegedly over-conceptualizes information and is prone to taking stats out of context, unable to analyze what they see or observe properly. He would argue you guys are all this type and that's why you cannot judge LeBron vs. MJ the correct way. Trust me, I've read his web site for years, and man does he have a bone to pick with ENTPs. He also blames the ENTP media for being unable to see that Tom Brady is a mediocre QB and systems player who is actually vastly inferior as QB to Peyton Manning. That's probably his favorite one to argue; second is that MJ is far better than either Kobe or LeBron. He also blames ENTPs for the moral evils of Hollywood, inventing the theory of evolution (Niednagel is a very conservative Calvinist), and just about everything else under the sun.

I used to take his methods and systems very seriously, but then he said I was an ENTP, so I guess I'll never be able to figure out reality like he does. ;)

The so called "brain doctor" Jonathan P. Niednagel (pronounced need-noggle) leveraged his bachelor’s degree in business finance from California State University, Long Beach, and the stolen works of Raymond Catell's 16-factor model of normal personality structure developed in 1949 to hoodwink gullible sport figures like Ainge, who reportedly considered firing himself after his test revealed his brain type was the same as Captain Louis Albano. Educational society and members of American Psychological Association criticize Brain Types as not valid and built for commercial purposes only. The Skeptic's Dictionary devotes an entire article to the methods used by Niednagel to con his various victims. In his article "Brain Typing, The Pseudoscience of Cold Reading, Dr. Terry Sandbek takes a deeper look at Niednagel's ideas, exposing his "brain typing" as a pseudoscience on the same level as astrology and phrenology.

The American Psychological Association considers Brain Typing a pseudoscience. In summary, Niednagel is a con-artist fraud spouting bullshit, and people who pay for his services are idiots.

As for known LeBron hater Marc Stein's article, I won't insult people's intelligence here discussing it any further. See http://www.nbaminer.com/clutch-time-stats/. Who is #1?

Health/availability is one of the most important skills there is.

MJ's gambling/etc. issues and everything that led him to take time off has to be accounted for. You certainly can't say that he "would've" or "should've" 8-peated as some do.

Likewise, Magic's inability to live the Showtime life semi-responsibly is his own fault. Even if it is an open secret that Savannah gives LeBron an infinite supply of hall passes, he doesn't go unprotected.
