Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So Karl Anthony-Townes has knee surgery on March 4th and is slated to return this weekend. Dean Wade goes out with paternity leave/knee soreness/knee sprain on March 10th and there’s no return in sight. They often say a player’s greatest asset is availability and Dean Wade is often unavailable. 54 games this year ….out for personal reasons, knee injury, ankle and illness this season alone. Last year only played 44 games out with a shoulder sprain, 2021-22 surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee, senior year at Kansas State his season was cut short by a foot injury. It’s quite a pattern

Yeah, agreed. This is something I'd like to see Comeback Kid get on here and try to justify. Injuries happen, but you have dudes having surgery coming back before you. That's not a good look.

To me, it’s less about seeding and more about matchups..

We saw this play out last year..

I’d rather be a 6 seed and face the Magic then a 5 seed and face the Knicks or a 2 seed and face the Heat/Sixers..

How I’d rank preferred 1st round matchups:

1. Magic
2. Pacers
3. Knicks
4. Sixers
5. Heat
This is fair, although...who is guarding Paolo

Mobley. He did well against Randle last post-season.
My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I I recall Okoro doing a nice job on him in a couple of games. Paolo could shoot over him, but had a hard time getting to his spots.

The Deaner also turns 28 at the start of next year, so it’s not like he’s some really young prospect you expect to keep getting better or that might grow out of the issues. I like him, but I think this offseason is the time to attach him in part of a trade to upgrade another position or depth.

I memory-holed the playoffs so you could be right.

Magic's defense scares me to death.

I think the addition of Niang has always made this a possibility. My guess is that even with the injury history, Dean has some value around the league - when healthy he is that hard to find "plus defender with size who can shoot". I would think he could be attached as a deal sweetener to a number of trades. On our end, we have to make sure what we get back is worth losing a guy that is a very high value contributor at his price point. As frustrating as it is that it looks like he's going to miss the playoffs again, we wouldn't even be making the playoffs this year without his contribution. Tough to find that level of contribution at 6 mil per year.

I understand what you're saying, but including playoffs he's going to miss 30 or more games in each of the last two seasons. If we're just going off the $6M number, is it really that difficult to find a guy who misses 20+ games a year and does what he does? It's at the point where a guy who is an average defender, with similar size, and not quite as good of a shooter but can play 60+ games a year is more valuable.

For example. Naji Marshall is an FA this year. How much do you think he's worth? I feel like he's probably not going to get much more than $6M from a team, and he has similar numbers to Dean, is basically the same size, almost two years younger, and has played in a lot more games.

If Wade has any value left around the league, we absolutely should consolidate him into a trade for another wing or an asset. I don't know what kind of playing time will be available to him next season if we add another 3/4 in another trade, FA, or the draft.

What I don't understand is why the media is not trying to find out the status of his injury. Is something else holding him out?

How is the media supposed to do that? Team controls the information and like other teams releases information when there is a change in status. There‘s nothing anyone in the media can do.

I don't agree. I was a news reporter in my younger days. You need to persist and keep asking questions. The least they can do is say they requested information and that the team said such and such a thing. Do we even know what his injury is? Have they talked to the team physicians? I haven't followed this closely but it is puzzling to me that there isn't more information about this.

So when you were a news reporter you were able to get injury information that wasn’t released by the team?

The team physicians aren’t talking to any reporters. Any physician who talked to the media without consent from the player is violating Federal Law and would be fired by the team.

I don’t care if you’re Woodward and Bernstein, you’re not getting confidential medical info. Unless you steal it. I wouldn’t recommend that either.
