Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't know, Mobley is better than in his rookie year. I think your projections are a little fast. If year 6 25 year old Mobley is producing at this level and rate of usage, I would be disappointed, but your missing positive signs as well of improved shot form, elite passing and improving physicality. It just takes time. Especially when he isn't getting the forced usage other similar types of players were given during their early years to develop.

I think getting in game reps to try to improve is very important for a big man. They aren't going to find the same level of size, strength, and shot blocking ability from even backups on the team, let alone guys they might practice with in the summer.

Like Evan Mobley has his older brother but Isaiah Mobley isn't going to really help him from any of the moves he needs to compete against NBA starters. Allen could help but he is putting in minutes on the court and has his own commitments in the offseason.

I think guards and wings can at least work on moves outside of the paint and you can find a solid defender to work again because there are just a lot more of the out there either on NBA benches or fighting to get on an NBA roster. Like Delly was there for Kyrie to go against in practice.

There just aren't many 7 footers to go again who are NBA starter level out there to work with. If you want your big men to improve they need in game reps. Giving them easy dunks and alley-ops just doesn't help them to progress their game. They need reps to work on moves to create for themselves.

Bullshit excuse, that's what broomsticks are for, just ask Dion Waiters.

This seems like the best thread for this article. It isn’t pleasant to hear. But, I can’t say it is all untrue

Very dumb article…I love when the opening paragraph says that the Cavs aren’t good enough to beat the Celtics but then in the very next line says we might “steal the series” anyway! Make up your mind dude.

That DM Jazz team never went anywhere in the playoffs…

You could count on Gobert getting exposed every year. That Jazz team with Mitchell only made it to the Second Round... Twice in 5 years. Jazz only won THREE games total in the second round.

That entire article is full of sh*t... Cavs are young and still growing with massive upside. Mitchell upgraded Big Time.

I mean article is pretty bad. I agree Cavs need a new front office. But anyone who thinks Strus is overpaid and a downgrade from Osman doesn't know basketball. Strus hasn't shot like I expected. But everything else he has done better then I expected. Better defender then I expected. Better rebounder. Better playmaking. He does everything. May not be elite at anything but he's vastly superior to Osman. And 16 M is the going rate for good role players in today's NBA.

He's a much, much smarter player than Cedi. And while he does have some poor shooting nights - as did Cedi - Strus has never had the resonance cascade of shitting the bed turnovers that Cedi could sometimes have when he tried to do too much.

I still think Strus was an overpay (Niang too). I guess it’s Dan Gilbert’s money though, so unless it eventually stops us from getting other players who could contribute more it doesn’t matter so much.

Disagree on Strus. That's 5th starter/6 man money in the NBA these days.

Totally agree on Niang, though. Hard to have a single skill guy make that much money.

I stopped reading when they said Utah had a better defense than us. The Utah defense was one man. They always packed poor defenders around him. Their best defensive players not from France were a younger Royce O'neal, who cannot be a primary wing stopper, and an older Mike Conely, who is good against certain PGs but limited otherwise. DM wasnt playing defense then. You think Clarkson or Bogdanovich is stopping anyone? Hell no. Its a testament to how good Rudy is that they were a top 10 defense for so many years when he was solely responsible for covering the rim, weakside help defense, AND most of the perimeter D.

We have a two guys that can do the Gobert role, better PoA defenders than Utah ever had (Okoro, LeVert, Strus), and a better defensive big wing (Dean). We really only play two minus defenders in our regular rotation (DG, Niang) and one of those guys isn't even playing in the playoff rotation. This is a shitty article written by a salty Jazz fan

Niang losing the one skill he was paid for still hurts. He was paid to shoot 3s and this has been by far his worst 3 point shooting season in years.

I hated the signing when it was announced. Hated his lack of rebounding. His plodding game. Him being too slow to play SF and too short to be an effective 4 (when paired with his rec league athleticism). And I hated the dollar amount.

But I was swayed by this board that his shooting and attitude make it worth while. I became at least a little optimistic. And I was pleased with the attitude and the grit, even with a shot that was more sporadic than advertised.

But at this point he is just useless. No shot. Just his awkward rec league drives, and even those shots have not been going down.

I'd rather play small ball with Ice or Stus at the 4 at this point.

The problem with DM in Utah was a lack of a second or even third option.

The problem in Cleveland is that one of our potential second options is unreliable/regressed, and the other is still developing and is probably at minimum a second option in 25-26 at absolute best.

Not sure what assets Utah had but I feel like Garland, Mobley and Allen are all really good assets, better than anything Utah might of had, should we decide to turn them into trade pieces.

Lol, nope. If they aren't second options, they don't have value. Mobley will have a bit more because of his youth and position type. Allen and Garland are 3rd options at best. Nothing will change that.
