MAC Basketball WIDE Open

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sadly i've watched too much of him... I love watching him get pushed around by people way shorter then him game after game.

I agree that he gets pushed around, but that's due to him not weighing enough and not being strong enough to push back. He's an incredible athlete. He may end up being a bust, but his lack of athleticism won't be the reason...he's got enough of that to be a pro. I'm just not sure he has enough of everything else.

Well then Akron needs to fire there strength and conditioning coach because it doesn't look like he has gained more than 5 pounds since coming to school here, and I saw him the first day he walked on campus.

Ohio took out those teams at home last year, this year they lost to Buffalo, Kent, and Miami at home...those are three teams that are very tough to beat on the road.

You're right in saying that nobody in the MAC can check Cooper, but if they don't find a solid #2 opposing teams will simply let Cooper get his and shut everyone else down, kind of how teams defended David Kool. Bassett leaving hurt OU biiiiig time.

With that said, it's a wide open tournament. A strong argument could be made for Buffalo, Kent, OU, BG, Miami, and Ball State, and possibly others to win it.

The Q is not Ohio's home court.

Can't really disagree with what you said. I would still be interested to know if that's the full truth on Kellogg. I know that the Kellogg's are certainly known for high character, but he spent all of last year sitting out and practicing with the team only to quit when he can actually play? Just seems odd to me. I had heard Coleman was still on campus as well. I think the kid will probably get another shot, but likely as a walk on. I would definitely have some issues with him getting his scholarship back immediately (Ohio still has an open scholly for next year) after quitting on his teammates. I'm all for him earning it back, which he likely would if given the opportunity. However, just giving it to him doesn't really do much if he happens to get in trouble again or decides to leave again.

Somebody told me that Coleman basically didn't have the drive to play basketball in him anymore and the rap career thing was blown out of proportion. The kid has talent and probably would have been the second most talented kid on the team behind Cooper. This gives the younger guys time to play though.

Since you are a fellow Bobcat, sometime I'll have to tell you how I inadvertently helped recruit DeVaughn. It didn't really come full circle until I ran into him after the MAC Championship Game last year.

I'm not DeVaughn's biggest fan. He's a TOS recruit. Guy that could have turned into something, but didn't. TOS always looked for the diamond's in the rough. Always looked for the freak athlete and sometimes they had trouble in their past (see Coleman, Fears, ect...). I'm glad we got Groce actually looking for kids who are getting recruited by fellow MAC schools and higher.

I still see Coleman around campus. I have even seen Bassett a few times.

Probably just visiting or his court dates. I know he had two pending ones. Then again he didn't make it in the D-League or Europe. Should have stayed at Ohio. I saw Bubba Walter on campus a year ago at the basketball game. This was right before winter break. Didn't realized this, but he (Bassett) played summer league with the Hornets.

He gained 20 lbs from freshman to sophomore year...he's just too small still.

And this is not 2010's team. Bassett is gone and they are playing unimpressive basketball right now.

OU's schedule the rest of the way is a tough one:

@ Buffalo
vs BG
@ Kent
vs Akron
@ Miami

Going to need some Q magic again this season.

I realize Bassett is gone, but the team started out the same last year and were seeded bad last year. I was just trying to say it doesn't matter where your seeded or how you finish in the MAC. The tourny is where it matters, unless you're ranked like Kent was a while back.

Oh I agree there, OU is one of about 5-6 teams that could win the tourney. I'm just saying at this point right now, I don't see anything that makes me think they'll make another run.

The Bobcats pick up a huge 76-69 win tonight in Buffalo after trailing by 8 at half. Played great defense in the second half. A fourth consecutive big game by Ivo Baltic with 24 pts and 9 reb. Cooper chips in 23 pts and 5 ast.

Akron POUNDS Bowling Green 89-54...statement win right there from the Zips.

Akron wins against Creighton at home

This week is going to have big time implications on how the seeding shakes out.

Every game is a virtual must-win this week:

Today: Kent @ Western

Wednesday: BG @ Ohio, Miami @ Akron

Thursday: Buffalo @ Kent

Saturday: Buffalo @ Akron, BG @ Miami, Ohio @ Kent

Things will likely be much clearer by Sunday.
