MAC Tournament

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Epic championship game of Akron vs Kent State.

Epic championship game of Akron vs Kent State.

As it should be. This is the Duke-UNC of the MAC. :king:

Love Kent being good every year. Love, love, love it. Never thought I'd see it growing up in Kent in the '80s and going to Kent in the '90s.

I actually thought they'd become a football school before they became a basketball school. So much for that.

Akron has quietly put together an impressive five years:

- This is their fifth straight MAC Championship appearance in five years (ties conference record)

- They have six straight 20+ win seasons

- One NCAA Tournament appearance (They'd have two if the clock operator did their job when they played Miami)

- Two NIT Appearances (Two wins, two losses)

*cough* *cough*BG Women's bball team is going dancing. carry on

Yeah Kent is Duke with the rich history and Akron isn't anything like UNC. Nice try... Akron has only made the tourny twice now and the coach that LeBron propelled to that university will soon be gone to bigger and better things.

Much like any good coach in the MAC does. I don't care what school he's at in the MAC, if he has a lot of success, he will be gone.

I despise Akron but they deserved the win. Great game.

Everyone but Rodriguez Sherman will be back next year for my Flashes. We'll be in the mix as always. But for now... it's off to the NIT.

Georgia Tech has an opening, but word down here is they want someone like Mark Price to coach the team. We see MAC football coaches leave to BCS schools frequently as this year Al Golden went to Miami(FL) and Jerry Kill landed in Minnesota. Basketball on the other end doesn't happen too much since there are more programs. I could be wrong, but I think the last coach to leave for a bigger pastures was Stan Heath. Oh wait I forgot, the great Dan Dakich coached Indiana for a few games...:chuckles:

Look at all the butt hurt Can't State fans...so sad.

Maybe next year. Till then, we'll be dancing!

Kent State has 5 NCAA Tournament appearances. They had a good team in 2000-2001 when they won a 1st round NCAA Tournament game, and had an incredible team in 2001-2002, the year they reached the Elite Eight. They were certainly the "team to beat" in the MAC from 2000-2004.

Akron has now reached the MAC final five straight years, winning twice. This will be their 3rd NCAA Tournament appearance. They have been the "team to beat" from 2007-2011.

Kent State is a very good program, but so is Akron. You just can't say one has a rich history and the other doesn't. After the last three years and tonight's result, I think Akron has proven themselves as the top program in the MAC at this time.

As far as Dambrot goes, he is going nowhere unless he's fired, and that's not happening. He is a UA grad, his mother was a professor at UA, and his family is deeply rooted in the Akron community. He just signed a two year contract extension in 2009 that added on to a previous five year contract, which runs until 2016. He doesn't want to go to a bigger program, he wants to make Akron a bigger program.

Tonight was the best college basketball game I have ever seen live. The energy of the crowd, two great teams in in all-out battle...it was incredible...and as much as I despise Kent State, I give them tons of credit...they played their asses off, and could've just as easily won the game.

Looking forward to Selection Sunday...so proud of my Akron Zips right now!

2011 MAC CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't watch the game, but congrats to Akron!

I'm sure they were celebrating big time as they are now going to the big dance. What are the chances they play OSU at the Q if they win on Tuesday or Wednesday? LOL

Anyway; does anyone else find it strange that teams who win their conference tourney are celebrating like they just won the National Title? Teams who were going to be in the dance anyway celebrated a little too over the top. Take UCONN for instance; if you didn't know better, you would think they are the new Champs after that game last night. Geezee. I certainly hope OSU doesn't think they actually won something if they win today.

Again; congrats to the Zips. Here's to hoping they win the first game next week!
