Marshall to Cavs?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Z's 1st year will be 9 million
Hughes 1st year will be 11
Donyells will be around 5

Leaving around 4 mill for a pg, plus whatever we get when we deal Gooden.

I see Donyell as a very soft defender. I think he will be exposed just as much as Drew Gooden was last season against the more Athletic PF's like KG/JO/Elton/Timmy/Bosh. But I do like his offense. Another guy that can hit a jumper consistantly is a real big help for our ball club.

I do see Drew Gooden being dealt very shortly here. To get a top PG, it has to be done. I hope that it's Damon, since he's proven and all. But hey, that Sarus guy will do just fine.

maybe the Cavaliers are looking at Yell as offensive punch off the bench and still plan on getting a banger for the starting 4.

whoever comapre Marshall to Robert horry in their post could be on to something, atleast i like the comparison.

I am surprised to see you guys pimping Stoudamire this much at pg. Why, man? As Infante said Mighty Mouse is proven but what has he proven? He, like ANtoine Walker, needs the ball to be effective. In addition to that hes getting older and will want a long-term contract.

I think he would be nearly as bad As Walker for our developing team. Stoudamire has never been a past first pg and he's not a great outside shooter either. In addition to those issues, he's me-first takes lots of low % shots just like Marbury who I also would not want on this team.

I think we are going to get frustrated with Hughes at times for forcing shots, so one more guy to do this is not my idea of an effective pg. I could see us getting as frustrated with Damon as we did with Jeff.

I really want to see us get Sarunas. Marko seems impossible to pay unless we dipense with Drew. Seems like Daniels is all but taken. Whats going on with Earl Watson? Is he signed. Karma mentioned Steve Blake and to be honest Id rather team a guy like him or a summer league guy up with Snow than put Damon out there. I hate the idea of putting Damon on the floor.

My favorite options of what still seems possible...

1. Sarunas
2. Ditch Gooden, pick up Jaric
3. Summer leaguer

Jigo, I just thought about Watson too. He seems to have been lost in all the free agency excitement this summer. I haven't seen him in any rumors or connected with any team yet. Watson might not be a perfect solution but is as good as anyone left in free agency. I wonder if he could come cheaper than originally thought since there hasn't seem to be any type of huge bidding on him.

Sarunas still appears to be the best fit and a very realistic signing but I'd put Watson right there or ahead of any other available FA PG since Daniels no longer appears to be an option. I'd put Sarunas, Watson and Jaric (at a more reasonable contract than the rumored $40 million one) all way ahead of Stoudamire who I see only as a backup plan if other options fail.

I have some red flags about marshall that I'd like to express. marshall, ala gooden is an undersized power forward. He can play small forward even in certain situationas long as he doesn't have to defend a quick athletic small forward. He has some injury concerns, and if we're committing to him as our starting power forward I'm glad we got good insurance in AV, if gooden is indeed gone. I hope Marshall doesn't log more than 25 minutes per game at power forward. I don't want him getting beat up.

He doesn't possess the athletic ability that we need at the power forward position to make up for Z's deficencies defensively.

I think marshall is a better compliment to Z than gooden, but he is not an ideal fit by any means. I hope varejao will develope quickly so we can get him into the starting line up. I like the idea of marshall coming off the bench better than starting, similar to my feeling of varejao.

You cannot compare Drew and Donyell's defense. Marshall may not be the physical defender we crave, but his defensive awareness is far superior. He will be owned by some of the top forwards, but it won't be the result of mental errors.

adding to what karma said everyone gets beat by the best p.f. in the game. its the team defense that sets teams like the spurs and pistons away from everyone else. marshall has been in the league long enough to know what he has to do in the defensive scheme. we are looking for him to shut down his opponent, more of being able to play team defense.

Man, if we really have landed Marshall, and we manage to trade Gooden for a good PG, our off-season would've been almost perfect.

WOOOOHOOOOO!

Sigh. The Cavaliers lacked a PG that had the guts to penitrate to the lanes last season. The Cavs also lacked a reliable shooter at the guard spots. JMac/Snow/Newble weren't consistant at all in that department.

As of right now, our PG situation is finding someone who can score. We have past 1st players on the team already in Snow/LeBron/Hughes. We want to add another one? For what? So the entire team can play hot potato for the entire 24 seconds? We have our defensive PG who is a pass 1st player in Eric Snow, we do not need to duplicate him.

Jaric is a good player, but I feel he will just be ripped to shreads by the quicker PGs. That means more fouls for Zydrunas (just what we need).

I am pimping Stoudamire because he has proved to be a confident offensive player. He hasn't proven to be a winner because frankly, he has played for 2 crappy orginizations that were going nowhere at the time. Damon deserves his chance to show that he has matured just as Sarus deserves his chance to show he can play in the NBA.

So you would have to choose:

1. Sarus The Unknown

or

2. Damon The confident scorer.

Anyways. yeah, Donyell Marshall, glad we got him.

It's not like Saras is under 20. It's not like he hasn't played basketball before.
I don't know how much more confidence you can get from flaming the "best" basketball country in the world. Or more confidence from being the MVP of the Euroleague. Maybe a little more from the 3 championships. This guy is confident with his shot. He has won and knows what it takes to do so, talent-wise and mentally. He's the guy we want. Damon Stoudamire is the backup plan to Saras.

I want Sarunas better shooter, better leader, better character, younger, cheaper, more passionate, no history of off the court, or drug problems do I need to continue?

I have to agree. Even though Mighty Mouse is still a good little baller, Sarunas has not had any off court troubles, and Damon had a drug problem (just like every other player who was in Portland over the past few years)
