Doom, Victor Von.

I understood why they couldn't get Doom right... If you take your average, lazy, jackass screenwriter, how do he or she write dialogue or device a plot that would come off as though it was the work of a genius level intellect? Either he/she would spend years developing the plot and script, adapt one already written, or just say fuck it and turn Doctor Doom into a tech blogger -- something a lazy screenwriter can "understand."

Finally got around to watching the Venom trailer. They lost me when I saw they don't even pronounce symbiote correctly. Like, how do you fuck that up?

Also, whoever wrote this movie doesn't seem to have any understanding of Eddie Brock as a character. It's all wrong.

It is because the studio felt that adhering too close to the comics would alienate fans.

I guess we know why each FF film sucked. They were afraid to make a comic-book movie.

I saw a comment that Venom looks like Upgrade if they removed all the fun, and that sounds pretty accurate.

Reviews are coming out.

Very positive. Consensus seems to be that though it isn't quite as good as Black Panther or Winter Soldier, and can't be because it simply has too much to do, it is a dazzling epic that will leave fans shocked and wanting more.

Thanos is the star of the show and an empathetic and terrifying villain.

What was so special about Black Panther? Good movie, I liked it, I'm kind of hoping this is better.

To each his own, of course; but, I think a lot of people would agree Black Panther, for them (including myself) was the best Marvel movie to date...

Black Panther and Winter Soldier felt like great movies in their own right, with or without Marvel...

Really?? I know it was well received and again I had a great time, but man. I don't see it.

Winter Soldier is definitely my favorite.

Winter Soldier is definitely my favorite.

Just for comparison (to see how they were reviewed):

Winter Soldier
----------------------
Metacritic = 70
Rotten Tomatoes = 89% (7.6 / 10)
CinemaScore = A
Roger Ebert = 3.5 / 4

Black Panther
----------------------
Metacritic = 88
Rotten Tomatoes = 96% (8.2 / 10)
CinemaScore = A+
Roger Ebert = 4 / 4

Until Black Panther came out, I agree, Winter Soldier was my favorite. But Black Panther was just a more complete film, IMHO. But again, there's no right answer here, it's just personal preference, but yeah, to me as someone coming into the movie not expecting much (and not a huge fan of BP to begin with), I thought it was spectacular. Totally blown away...

I wrote a long post after BP came out about why I thought it was such a good movie, and better than most other Marvel films, even Winter Soldier.

For what its worth my favorite movie in the MCU so far has been Logan. It, like EVERY Marvel movie does not have a great villain, but as someone who is feeling the effects of aging - in a weird way, this movie resonates with me. Logan's struggle with aging, alcoholism, the whole -this is my life now shtick - I can resonate a lot with that. The fact that this movie does not have a great villain does not bother me.

Talking of villains, I sincerely hope that Thanos is shown as a bad ass in the new movie. I

86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The primary complaint from critics that didn't like it is that there are "too many things going on" and doesn't have a resolution by the end of the film (it is a two-part film). And even then they say it is still an enjoyable and epic film.

Or what one would expect from a film of this sort. Sometimes I think critics get lost in demanding the same form for every film. Anyone familiar with the MCU would know this is a multiple film saga.

I just fucking love the character of BP/T'Challa (I think that's his name :chuckle: I literally know NOTHING about comic books/superheroes, I just watch the movies). Such a beast. So I really enjoyed it. And Killmonger was cool but the final fight was a total letdown, I think that dragged it down for me. But yeah it was definitely fun. Most of the Marvel films have been pretty fun IMO. I've missed a few, though. Guardians 2 and Dr Strange namely. Might catch them on Shitflix real quick.

Holy shit, I loved Logan. That may be my favorite. I just didn't consider it part of Avengers/MCU or whatever the fuck but it's Marvel right? So.

Bingo - I dont care about the studios crap but for me if it came out as a Marvel comic, it is marvel - don't care if it is Marvel studios or Fox or Disney or Netflix.

You need to see Dr. Stranger stat.

Hugely important character in the Infinity Saga and, along with Spiderman, Strange will be flagbearer for the MCU once all the original Avengers are done.

And it is a great film to boot.
