A few things....

For one, Adam Warlock stands outside of space and time; meaning, his actions are not necessarily linear, for one, but more importantly, this means that psychics or even those in possession of the Mind and Time gems cannot predict his movements. So no cosmic being can know what Adam Warlock is going to do ahead of time, making him 100% unpredictable.

Secondly, Adam Warlock (and Gamora) have a keen familiarity with the Soul Gem. My guess is that Gamora will take this role in Avengers 4 rather than Warlock. But, Warlock can use his knowledge with the Soul Gem to manipulate the other gems (as well as hide from the person that wields them) if they are in contact via the Gauntlet.

Third, since he's aware of how the Soul Gem works, if Warlock dies, he can be reborn as someone else (by transmitting himself from the Soul Realm into a recently deceased body). So he's not easy to get rid of...

Even with all of this, Adam Warlock can't walk up to Thanos and just punch him in the mouth. He needs (needed) literally every possible distraction imaginable just to get Thanos to marginally drop his guard, and even then it really didn't defeat Thanos.

In the end, Warlock really just created enough of a fight, a long-enough, protracted enough fight where Thanos' own self-doubt caused him to defeat himself. See, Thanos doesn't actually, truly, believe that he is worthy of being a god. He doesn't believe he, or anyone, should have that kind of power over life and the universe; even though that's his long-stated ambition. So subconsciously, Thanos may subvert his own plans.

Warlock was the one guy in the Universe who not only knew that, but knew how to cause Thanos to lose because of it.
Do we know if they are going to bring in Adam Warlock into the movies? I could easily see them not, since these.are Avengers movies- and that basically means the Avengers fail to win their own movie series. I think you nailed it, they split up Adam's job(s) in defeating Thanos up amongst existing heroes.

Adam Warlock is mentioned in the post credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He is currently being "created" by the Sovereign race.

And with guardians 3 postponed he may never hatch

They actually killed the idea of having Warlock in Avengers 3&4; apparently there was not enough time to introduce his character, so yeah, they're going to split up his function along the various characters. But I suspect, with the help of Ant-Man, Banner and Stark, that Captain Marvel will probably serve as the primary hero this time around; which, makes a good amount of sense when you think about it considering how powerful she is...

I think that movie will get made; it's probably a matter of weeks/months before they find a replacement for Gunn or .. end up re-hiring him. But IMHO, the GotG franchise after Pt.3 is probably going to be shelved for good long while if Gunn doesn't return.

Ending of Luke Cage season two was great. Set things up nicely for a very intriguing third season hook and didn't go overboard killing characters off like these shows tend to do sometimes.

Are we at all concerned that they would likely have to recast Drax too?

Batista already said he'll fulfill his contractual obligations, which I assume means Guardians 3.

After that, I assume he'll either be killed off, or just written out.

I think they would just kill him off.. Drax can always be brought back later on down the road. So long as they have Chris Pratt the movie can still work.

Is it as slow as season 1? Not been impressed with Jessica Jones season 2

I enjoyed the first season of Luke Cage but I had a hard time finishing season 2. I just finished it, if it wasn't part of the marvel universe, I would have given it up. Basically took me more than a month of trying to finish it. It felt like nothing got left on the cutting room floor and they were wiling to put in anything written to get to the 13 episodes and hit the hour mark with each one.

Alfre Woodard shouldn't have been given anywhere close to the screen time she got. Her acting was horrible and I cringed everytime she was on screen.

Ive watched pretty much everything marvel studios has put out and Luke Cage season two I think is clearly the worst thing they have released. Cloak and Dagger held that title up till now for me, that was at least easier to watch.

Can someone fill me in on the drax situation?

Batista has just been outspoken in his support of Gunn.

Says he plans to fulfill his contractual obligations, but will bounce if he doesn't feel like they're making the movie Gunn would want.

The good news is they are still using his script.

My guess is that the MCU Carol Danvers will be a hell of a lot tamer than the Marvel Comics version. Marvel has put her through hell for decades... lol!

Isn't that basically every comic character?

Not like Carol Danvers.... chick's been through hell, a few times...

Tony Stark comes to mind, but... most comic book characters don't have as dark of a journey through their timelines.
