PDcavsinsiderSome indications the Cavs are zeroing in on Matt Barnes. They are looking to sign a combo forward now, also looking at Kleiza & Wally S.

I'm hoping for Barnes and Wally!!!

Wally we wouldn't have to use the MLE or BAE on so I want him back since he is still a nice player for the 12th man.

!!!!

Finally they talk to Matt Barnes!

Interesting stuff. We'll see if anything comes out of it.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

PF and a another wing player are still two positions to address. Picking up Barnes woud be a nice move. He can create offense and play 10-12 minutes a game. If they go that route with BAE or remaining MLE, I think the Cavs need to look at trade options for a legitimate starting PF.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

I don't want sally back. He pretty much lost our best chance at the title by slapping to much ass.
To much sucking ferrys dick(chemistry)

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

If we get Barnes it implies to me that we're going to play a decent amount of 'small ball' this year.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

I like matt barnes. This would allow LBJ to play more PF.

Mo
Parker
Barnes
Lebron
Shaq

That is a big lineup. Something we really did not have last year. Its also a really fast athletic lineup. Well except for Shaq haha. I am EXCITE

EDIT: well not exactly huge. But we have 2 bigger players that can play guard now. I like this Matt Barnes character.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Now that there's a watch thread, no need to get excited.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

I'd much rather have Kleiza, I worry that Barnes is the product of run and gun teams. Kleiza on the other hand was said to struggle because of how much Denver ran. I'd love him here...

For those like Lee who wants the stretch 4 off the bench... Kleiza is the man for the job. For those who want a back up 3 for Lebron...Kleiza is the man for the job!!!

Edit: This sound like a political pitch..:D

6 teams in 6 years. That's almost as bad as Gooden's 7 teams in 7 years.

There must be a reason why so many teams give up on Barnes. Anyone want to spell it out?

Well, having watched him practice with the Cavaliers when he was drafted he wasnt an NBA player back then. Fringe NBA guys tend to bounce around before they are able to establish themselves.

When Barnes established himself in Golden State they didnt want to pay him after one year. He signed a one year contract and they still didnt want to pay him. He winds up taking a one year deal with Phoenix and is likely not to be brought back there.

What I can gather is that Matt Barnes is like Devin Brown in the sense that he is a nice player to have in a certain role but not a guy you want to invest multiple years (more than 2) in.

I can't stand that argument. Why was nobody using that argument with Joe Smith?

If it's a player you like, it's because they are a valuable trade asset, if you don't like him, teams just wanted to get rid of him.

Drew Gooden sucks, Joe Smith is a valuable asset?

The reason this happens more than anything in my opinion is because the player fits a need, but the teams don't feel they are the long-term solution. Since we're not going to land a long-term solution right now, if the player is playing a limited role, they'll fit in perfectly with what we're trying to do.

I like Barnes, but I've never seen him as being able to play the 4. Kleiza is too old and we're not going to be able to go slow all the time. We still need some athleticism because we've got Shaq and Z who will be slow all the time and we can't have too many slow guys on the court.

Where the hell was the love when I started a thread about him over a week ago?

I know what this team wants!

similar to Gooden and Damon Jones, Barnes is a role player that make solid trade asset.

Re: Matt Barnes Watch 2009

Kleiza is 24 and is probably an average athlete at the PF spot.
