Matt Barnes agrees to 2 yr/$3.2 mil w/ Orlando (pg. 34)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As cavs fans, to sleep on the vince signing is dangerous. Vince is a better player right now than hedo. He is an upgrade. They also retained Gortat and upgraded with Bass. This is a better orlando magic team. 2 of our 3 big aquisitions are as old as vince or older. Delonte does match up better on vince, but he didnt do bad on hedo. Rashard is who really killed us, and they still have him to play pf. Its why we got moon, plus shaq helps on dwight.

Overall Orlando got better imo, but the cavs got much better. I am not sure if either team is done. Whate does orlando have left to spend or trade Orlando fans...anything? We still have the bae, ability to use a non bird exception to keep Joe SMith (not that he played against you guys for some unexplained reason) and the ability to pull a s&t with wally for a bad contract but someone that can help (elton brand fits this mold).

We dont have any exceptions, other than an $6.8mil TPE that we got from the Hedo trade(which may or may not be used).

As far as players, we do have JJ Redick & Anthony Johnson to also shop who add up to a sizable $5 mil in expirings.... We also have Gortat who will probably be on the market if we get an offer we just cant refuse.... We're still looking for a 3rd PG to bring in before camp tho. Jason Williams & Carlos Arroyo(we still have his rights, I think) seem to be the names most fans are throwing around, but it's pretty much all speculation at this point. We may just bring a guy in from summer league and call it a day for all we know. But we do have a little flexibility to make moves, if need be.

I expect the east to be very close and exciting next year, and all things considered, I see CLE, ORL, & BOS all having an equally good shot at the #1 seed right now. Im not gonna count either of these teams out, because when healthy all of us are just too deep too talented to not give them a chance... I ultimately think the #1 seed will just come down to what team is more fortunate on injury's front.... but, hopefully that wont have to be a major issue...

Gortat is hard to shop as he can block any trade. A team wanting him would have to have starter minutes for him. Also, I think you need him. You are awfully thin without him. He is the only player on your team not collecting social security that can play center besides dwight. I forgot about the exception you got in the trade. That is some great gm work there....fuckers, lol.... I dont see the point of trading 2 contracts for a 5 million dollar player if you have the exception. Taking on the salary could get you a pretty decent player at the trade deadline for a team looking to avoid luxury tax. Damn, that makes you the biggest players at the deadline most likely. A pick plus the exception could bring you back a pretty decent player.

I see the cavs as a favorite right now to get the number one seed. I really do. We won the most games last year and we made some huge upgrades. But, who wins the conference is a different story. MB cant get out coached again in the play offs. Also, how healthy will Boston be? Age is not on their side for sure. Orlando? What move will the make during the season to put a finishing touch on that roster. Trade? Use exception to pick up a contract? It will be a fun season. One prospect for the rest of the league that is scary though is how good Lebron is now, and he will get better. Players dont beek until they are about 28. Wade is peaking, Kobe has peaked...Lebron still has 4 more seasons to peak. Scary.

True. I too would like to keep Gortat, but he's a guy who seems to really cares about his legacy and really wants a chance to be real good in this league. There are many other teams where he could compete and earn more minutes because he wouldn't be playing behind Dwight Howard(Who is basically a fixture to get his 35-40mins a night no matter what). That leaves Gortat w/ only 8-14mins a night, permitting no serious injury or foul trouble... From what i know about Gortat, I dont think he would really veto a situation where he would get more minutes... Most guys would be content to just get paid and be a backcourt, but Gortat really wants the opportunity to start and get PT this season(which is why he wanted to go to Dallas).

Dont get me wrong I would love for Orlando to keep him for at least this season tho, which is why I said it would probably take a damn good offer that we just couldn't refuse to pry him away... He is a trade-able piece if the right deal comes around, but your right, he's our only quality back-up C, so we kind of will need him. If Gortat works on his jumper he may be able to earn some more minutes at the 4 next to Dwight which most fans would like to see. Kind of like a twin towers approach that we could throw at teams.... This all weighs on both Dwight and Gortat being able to play together though, which means they will need to continue expanding & developing their offense. Their defense is already really really good.

I definitely agree about LeBron tho. Scary thought about him being able to get even better than he already is still.... Imagine if he can become an even more consistent perimeter shooter? He's definitely gotten better from his earlier years and is not bad now, but he still has alot of room to improve(A consistent jumper with his driving ability would be unstoppable, and his jumper wasnt even that inconsistant last year compared to yrs prior). I certainly see us as big time rivals, because Dwight and LBJ will both be hitting their prime at relatively the same time. Both of our teams will have to go through each other every year, like it or not :). We have to face the reality here, these are the two beasts in the east for the next 5-6 yrs at least. Boston has 1, maybe 2 good years with their core before they have to blow it up. But ORL and CLE.... Dwight is 23 & LBJ is 24.... These teams are gonna have some battles! Hopefully us fans can have some nice healthy debate, instead of trashing each others team because reality says that both teams will have to deal with each other for awhile...

Ok to all the stupid Magic fan on this bored (do not know why you are on realCAVSfans) but you guys are not that good. Look i know shaq is older then Vince but at the same time Shaq is good because he is good and his basketball IQ. Vince is athletic thats about it. (please dont come back with well vince shot this percent from this area it is just stupid) Also Ryan Anderson is good i do agree but do not expect him to come out and just be a stud or anything.

The season starts in about 3 months so we will see how well both teams play.

Orlando's not that good? Who are you, Bill Simmons?? :chuckles:

Where did I say I expect Ryan Anderson to be a stud? I have NO expectations for him..... He is a role player, and a 2nd string PF at best.... He can be good, but it's not like Orlando's success will hinge on his shoulders...

And this is the internet, im free to post here if I wish. Im not here to trash your team anyway, so I dont see why your mad at me... what if I happened to like the Cavs....? Just because the handle on the site is 'RealCavsFans' doesnt mean outsiders cant have discussion here though.... It's still a message board, free to anyone. :)

Actually no. Administration of this board can choose who writes here and who doesn´t. Not saying that they are banning other team supporters behaving well, but still...

Take it easy Matt. That post was a hot mess, and Blue Magic is bringing a quality opinion to the forum. RCF members visit boards of other teams and partake in discussions. On the flip, we welcome members that root for other teams, especially those that can provide value.

Personally I like the intelligent fans of other teams coming here. It gives perspective. If they are trolling, then get them out. I hate unrealistic fans whether they root for the cavs or another team. And if orlando isnt that good, then what does that make us Matt?

As for dwight, this might seem like a double standard, but I dont see his game improving that much. He is fantastic, and my favorite big man that doesnt wear wine and gold, but I dont think his game will evolve beyond the athletic freak level he currently is. The two areas he will improve on is defense will get better playing man and he can continue to improve his footwork and post moves. That said, Lebron will make his jump shot better, will develope a mid range pull up shot, continue to improve his defense, and develope a post game which he currently doesnt have.

If we put the two on a scale of how much of their potential they are using I would say Howard is an 8.5 and Lebron is a 6....meaning Lebron has much mroe room to grow potential wise than Dwight.

Also, while we are playing fantasy, imagine Lebron and Dwight on the same team. I have been dreaming that since Dwight's rookie year. Both defensively and offensievely that would just be absolutely sick. Better than shaq/kobe imo.

In Vince Carter they have someone who can ISO. We are going to see that too in the closing minutes. Carter and Nelson. They will be better at closing out I think. That is bad for us, unless we can actually slow the Magic down with our D. In the ECF IMO we came out of the gate hitting. We would be scoring and running our offense like normal. They would be chucking up 3's and looking like crap most of the first half. Then the 2nd units would come in and Pietrus started to hit and heat everyone up. We would start closing on him, and it would leave Lee wide open etc.

Now think about us closing on their 3 point shots, and vince Carter is on the team instead of Hedo. That gives him a lot of room to operate, much like our offense does with Lebron. I guarantee he is faster than Hedo. He will get to the bucket or use his pull-up. Now, what happens when we knock him on his ass? I am not sure, but this is the first time in a long while that he is actually competing and not stat stuffing. I imagine he, like Shaq, will be truly motivated as their time is almost up.

All that said, I think that Vince is a loser. I don't think he has the heart. He has his chance to prove me wrong, but we have a known commodity in Shaq in that he has been proven over and over to have the heart, drive, and talent to win big in important games. What that will do to our team confidence is going to be big. We k now when Lebron struggles, our team loses confidence. Shaq is not going to be like that. He is another guy we can rely on to get our team going.

After reading your post, perhaps you should be a little more hesitant before calling people stupid.
