Needs to improve: Outside shooting

Kidd-Gilchrist is a winner. It's apparent that no matter what area of his game needs improvement, it's not going to stop a team from drafting him in the top five. But it would really help his NBA team if he learns to consistently make jump shots.

Kidd-Gilchrist shot 26 percent from the college 3-point line, an NBA midrange jump shot, as a freshman at Kentucky. My sense is that at the high school and college level, he didn't need an accurate jump shot in order to have a positive effect on any game. In fact, most of his energy on the offensive end has been directed at attacking the basket.

At the NBA level, teams will play off him and dare him to shoot, so his lack of accuracy will become problematic. From what I know of Kidd-Gilchrist's work habits, he will spend a good deal of time in the gym, and I expect that he will improve. From a technical standpoint, he has a hitch in his shot and a different release point each time he shoots the ball. Working under a watchful eye, these are correctable issues.

MKG does well in a bunch of numbers that translate well into the NBA: rebound percentage, TS%, getting the foul line.

I know his shot worries people that he could be a Corey Brewer but MKG is much bigger, younger, then Brewer while being just as athletic. As Hollinger noted players with his size, youth, and stats rarely fail in the NBA

Beal, Kidd-Gilchrist or Robinson? - Sam Amick - SI.com
The case for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

For all of the attention paid to Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist was widely regarded as Kentucky's glue. Coach John Calipari routinely praised him for his role as the emotional leader, and Kidd-Gilchrist was the captain of the Wildcats' 8:30 a.m. workouts before scheduled practices. His inconsistent perimeter game remains a concern, but he's aggressive in attacking the rim. Kidd-Gilchrist also saved two of his best offensive performances for the NCAA tournament: He scored 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting against Indiana in the Sweet 16 and 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Baylor in the Elite Eight.

• "He'll be a more polished version of Gerald Wallace and could become the KG [Kevin Garnett] of small forwards."

• "He's a defensive warrior and will come to a team and make plays at both ends of the floor. I love his energy."

• "Tough, defends. Good make-up and character."

• "... [Kidd-Gilchrist] has the motor ..., and he's so tough. And there's a lot to be developed there yet. I just think that he's the one who's going to rise to the top out of [picks 2-4]."

You usually have to wait for two-way player to develop, with Kidd-Gilchrist, we just have to wait for his offense. Would you rather have a player who could shoot the lights out but is a matador on D? At least he has his defense to fall back on.

Few rookies come in with an NBA ready jump shot anyway, if that's what you're worried about, I think we'll be o.k.

If you're trying to build a high character program, I don't think you can do much better than Kyrie, Tristan, and Kidd Gilchrist.

Although I would prefer Beal, MKG is a fantastic person. Every single thing I have ever read about him basically screams high class. Also is it just me, or does he not seem like he really wants to be a Cavalier? I can't remember where I read it, but there was something about him saying (i'm paraphrasing) he would love to go to Cleveland at #4, but he just wants to be drafted. Something along those lines any ways.

I've read those same articles, and it seemed to me that he was saying "Yes, I would love to be a Cavalier and be reunited with my best friend Kyrie, but at the same time I don't want to alienate any other team so I'll stick to the politically correct answer." Don't forget he's working out in Cleveland already

That is basically the way I interpereted those words too. I want to play with my best freind, but don't worry i'll give it my all on any team that drafts me. I really like the kid, and a player that wants to be a Cavalier is a player that we should definately want imo.

Seems like the attitude of our possible draftees is very positive because they know Kyrie is gonna be great to play with. Instead of: "Shit, now I have to play for one of the worst teams in the league", now it's: "I'm excited to play beside one of the best point guards in the league". I also think Beal and MKG must be excited about the possibility of becoming a starter/face of franchise -type player before they turn 20.

This might sound overly simplistic.

You win with winners. Kyrie and MKG are winners and two players I would be thrilled to build our team around.

Surround them with shooters like *cough* miami *cough* did (face it. Lebron, wade and bosh aren´t great at shooting) and then they shine at what they do.

Example. Orlando... Dwight inside, rest are all shooters. from PG to PF.

MKG has a SG and PF who spread the floor (Nicholson) and he will shine at driving.

TT IMO can develop a mid range shot, like Scott said earlier last season.

Bosh is a good shooter.
