Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think MKG will ever win any shooting competitions but I expect that his shooting will be sufficient to compliment the rest of his game.

Example. Orlando... Dwight inside, rest are all shooters. from PG to PF.

the "10 Percent Theory." Even the best NBA players have holes; in a best-case scenario, they're tapping into about 90 percent of their total potential, with the holes representing the other 10 percent. We can either dwell on the 90 percent or the 10 percent … and some holes are less glaring than others. For instance, Larry Bird's biggest hole was his inability to defend quicker forwards without help. (Same for Dirk Nowitzki.) You could hide that specific hole on the right team, with the right coaches, the right teammates and even the right matchups. But something like Rajon Rondo's shaky jumpshot, or the Botox Face that afflicted Karl Malone in crunch time? There's a case of the 10 percent flashing like a neon sign. Again, some holes are more glaring than others. But EVERYONE has holes.

It's all about how you surround your players and build a team. That's why versatility is critical. Every year you see teams add a terrible basketball (ex. Boston picked up Hollins) just to add depth and to be able to mix and match different lineups. Small ball, half-court, run n' gun, whatever.

Depth/versatility also makes opposing coaches have to game-plan for different lineups. Regular season, multiple line-ups aren't critical, but when you reach the postseason, you need to be able to match up with your opposition.

2012 NBA Draft - Workout buzz on top prospects - ESPN

2. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Workouts: Wizards (6/15), Bobcats (6/18), Cavaliers (6/20)

Analysis: Unless something changes, Kidd-Gilchrist is done working out. He won't be visiting the Kings, Blazers or anyone else.

Team sources (sorry, can't take the agent's word on these) all say he looked good in workouts. He's not much of a drills guy and didn't particularly shine in those. However, I'm told he shot the ball pretty well wherever he went. Where Kidd-Gilchrist really stood out was in the competitive parts of the workouts. I heard he was especially aggressive going against Bradley Beal in Charlotte on Monday. Kidd-Gilchrist did tweak his back a little toward the end of the Charlotte workout, but was fine in Cleveland.

I'm told that his workout may have moved the needle a little in his favor during that Charlotte workout. The whole team was wowed by his competitiveness there. He's in the mix along with Thomas Robinson and Harrison Barnes at No. 2.

The Wizards have really liked him all season. But with the recent trade that landed them Trevor Ariza as part of the deal, I think it points them strongly in the direction of Beal.

The Cavs have their list narrowed down to MKG, Beal and Barnes. It's very difficult to get a read right now on which way the Cavs are leaning. I think if Beal's there, he's the most obvious candidate. They need a 2 desperately and need the shooting. If it's Kidd-Gilchrist versus Barnes, it may be a toss-up.

I don't see Kidd-Gilchrist slipping past the Kings at 5. No, he didn't work out there, but I don't think the Kings really need him to. He's exactly what they need.

I've been hoping that the over-analysis of MKG's shot might hopefully push him down to us at 4, I can only hope and pray that is the case and we can land him because, to me, the difference between MKG and Barnes will eventually be pretty big. The level of athleticism, leadership, and in my opinion an underrated upside is something that we would be absolutely drop dead fortunate to be able to add to our team. I know we aren't getting Davis...but I will be dissapointed at this point if we don't end up with one of either MKG or Beal at 4 ..I think either will be great paired with Kyrie.

Couldn't agree more, W&G.

I'm hoping Robinson does great at his workout with Charlotte, and the Wizards take Beal because of the Ariza trade. If that leaves us with MKG, and Barnes on the board, and Grant somehow still takes Barnes, I'd rage quit.

I think I am pretty much the only person that is not in love with MKG. I am however completely in love with Brad Beal. I think he brings a lot of the same intangibles as MKG, but at the shooting guard position with a much better shot and scoring ability.

Im starting to fall in love with the idea of MKG, Moultrie, and Orlando Johnson being added to the core of the team....really think Johnson would be a great pick with one of the 2nd rounders and would fit well with MKG and what the Cavs are trying to build

one thing i love about mkg is he likes to win but its what made mj and kobe great. He hates to loose that is big now a days with the aau culture. With him and kyrie we will never lose playoff games cause we didnt want it bad enough or our hearts wernt in it. that is a big intagible it it rubs off to teammate also

Best thing we say about MKG

"He likes to win!!!!!111"

-_-

From Steve Kyler , one of the main writers at Hoopsworld:

rap-rap
do you think MKG could drop to #5? given that the cavs are high on barnes and wizards likely will get beal. with that being said it would likely be davis at 1, t-rob at 2, beal at 3, barnes at 4 and mkg at 5?

Steve Kyler
Yes. Teams are not as overwhelmed by MKG as fans are. He has real questions associated. There are guys in front of him that have less concerns and that means MKG could tumble a little… I think he’s this year’s Brandon Knight. I do not think he drops past Golden State at #7.

I know he’s on the board for Charlotte at #2 and Washington at #3. I think if he is there are #4 Cleveland may try and trade their pick for someone who wants MKG.

I really can't see the Cavs passing on MKG at #4. And I would be shocked if MKG is on the board and the Cavs trade out of the spot.

We need Gilchrist because he has the heart of a winner. Michael Kidd Gilchrist has the desire to be a champion. It is obvious that he loves the game and becomes upset with losing ballgames. He is 18 years old and is a supremely conditioned athlete.

Watching these playoffs has made me want this kid so much more. Michael Kidd Gilchrist will be a BIG TIME playoff player in time.

Not even to mention the rub off effect he will have providing organic growth from within. Gilchrist's limited offense will be a blessing in disguise, the Cavaliers will have one more draft in 13 to add another core piece or two. In time we would have the ultimate competitor and possibly the best perimeter defender in the playoffs.

stuff like that rubs off on his teammates just look at the breakfest club. with his work ethic there is no way his jumpshot will improve. guys who came into the league and improved there jumshots. iguadala who he is compared to shot 20% in college he has gradually improved to 33%. gerald wallace also started out at 25% and has gon to 33%. if mkg can get to 30% he will be fine

30% is no where good enough if the Cavaliers insist on keeping their current frontcourt.

Allow me to preface this by saying that I love MKG's game and feel that he would be a great fit in Cleveland. As far as I'm concerned, if he falls to the Cavaliers at #4, it's our gain.

I'm wondering why his stock is falling? This is a great kid, who works incredibly hard and is the youngest player in the draft. I can't help, but wonder if his stuttering issue could have something to do with it. In this interview with Charlotte media after his Bobcats workout he was struggling and giving some very short answers:

http://www.nba.com/bobcats/video/2012/06/18/120618kiddgilchristm4v-2131649

A number of teams will undoubtedly want their high pick to be a 'face of the franchise' of sorts. That might he hard for MKG, at least intially, due to his stuttering issue. I know this is something he can overcome, like Ron Harper did. Ironically, Harper slipped to the 8th pick in the '86 draft where the Cavs took him. He was considered a steal at that spot.
