Mike Dunleavy Duck Hunt

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What was the deal about MDJ making comments about Jimmy Butler? Lots of drama in Chi Town.

Circa 2014 Mike Dunleavy would be an amazing pickup -- a stealth killer move. Exactly what we need. 36 year old Mike Dunleavy coming off back surgery? I have no idea what to think. He could be Shawn Marion II, or he could be better than RJ was for us this year. It could go any direction. It's really about health and injury recovery.

Totally worth the gamble though.

Any chance he can still play defense?

That's all nice. LeBron was still the best player they ever had. LeBron lead them to 4 NBA finals, and won two championships. He won two league MVPs while as a Heat player.

Mean more? I just stated Wade is clearly the most valuable player they've ever had. How is that saying LeBron meant more? I'm simply stating the obvious, he's the best player they've ever had though.

How anyone can claim different is ridiculous. Of course Wade is the most valuable player they've ever had though. No one is debating that.

LeBron dragged a team to the finals with Larry Hughes and Sasha Pavlovic. Freaking Drew Gooden as his starting power forward. That's way more impressive than what Wade did with the Heat.

That was the worst team to ever player in the finals. Nothing beats that accomplishment.

I think you're overstating Wade's accomplishments a bit, too. The East was freaking terrible. Wade getting those teams to a 40 something wins is something he should do, given how good he is.

LeBron at least made noise in the playoffs, despite his bad teams.

I mean damn, even an older Jason Kidd was getting some pretty awful Net teams to the playoffs before he was traded. The East was dog shit.

Second worst, imo. Can't top Iverson's 76ers.

If he's relativley healthy he's going to be a really good pickup...He brings toughness and attitude plus he's a great shooter...his D isn't that bad...should be fine

I disagree, I think that team was pretty underrated. Mutombo is a hall of famer, and one of the greatest defensive center's ever.

We didn't have anyone close to that.

Theo Ratliff, Tyrone Hill, Aaron McKie, Toni Kukoc, and George Lynch were also all very quality players. Even Eric Snow (before we got him) was a quality point guard.

They had no legit all-star other than AI, but they were a very deep team.

They ranked top-5 in opponents points scored, and defensive efficiency.

They were definitely not a very good offensive team, but they were an outstanding defensively team.

With that, and AI's scoring it's not hard to believe they at least made it to the finals in a weaken East.

LeBron had a bunch of garbage around him. I think Z, Andy, and Boobie I'd consider at least quality role players. And they beat a team that won a title to get to the finals.

Sure, Larry Hughes and Pavlovic brought some length defensively on the perimeter. But these players were pretty freaking sad. I can't believe a team got to the finals with a sad back court like that.

Dunleavy was a good defender in 2014-2015 (#8 among SF in DRPM at 2.14) but struggled coming off his back procedure this year.

He had a set back in his rehab that held him out. The surgery was performed towards the tail end of September and he was supposed to return in 8-10 weeks (Mid December). He didn't play in his first game until February 6th, some 5 months after the procedure.

Our medical staff must feel good about where he is to green light the trade. If he gets back to his 2014-15 form, it will be an absolute steal.

Plus it was a bit reassuring, with regards to his health, to see multiple teams trying to trade for him yesterday...

Her'es Pelton's analysis

Grade B

There's certainly the potential for Dunleavy to be an ideal fit for the Cavaliers ....

Over the past six seasons, Dunleavy has shot 40 percent from 3-point range with metronomic consistency -- never better than 43 percent or worse than 38 percent. Going from the Bulls to the Cavaliers should produce more open looks for Dunleavy, who shot 52.5 percent last season on 3-point attempts with no defender closer than 6 feet, per SportVU tracking on NBA.com/Stats. Conveniently, more than 40 percent of Cleveland's 3-point attempts came with no defender closer than 6 feet, as compared to less than 35 percent for Chicago.

At the same time, we have to at least consider the possibility that Dunleavy might not have much left. Back surgery cost him more than half the 2015-16 season, and though Dunleavy was still accurate beyond the arc after his return, the rest of his game deteriorated. He shot a career-low 42.7 percent inside the arc and posted the lowest rebound and assist marks of his NBA career. Don't pencil Dunleavy in for a major role until we see what he looks like on the court.

Not really worried about that though because he isn't coming here to play a major role.

He should have NEVER been a starter in Chicago...he was just slotted there because their FO was too incompetent to get a quality-starting SF. He should thrive in a reserve role though, especially since he's the perfect complement to our offense. I'd love to see him and Frye shoot a game of 3-point horse.

And like I said elsewhere, he's AT LEAST a trade asset.

Considering we only will be asking anything between 10 and 20 Minutes from him per Game i am not worried at all.

He can shoot,is clutch and is annoying in a way that you Love to have when he is on your Team but hate when he is on the Opponent. Oh and he Plays solid Defense.

In the Role we want he will be great for us.

Theo Ratliff wasn't on that team, he was part of the trade for Mutombo. Kukoc was too.

The Cavs were a fine defensive team too, and abysmal on offense (outside of LeBron, obviously). Honestly, based on LeBron versus Iverson alone, I still think that Cavs squad was better than that Philly squad. To each their own, I suppose. It's like comparing a couple of turds.

He's not a perfect addition (I wish he was a lot younger), but having as many guys as possible that can play 15-20 mins off the bench and hit shots from the 2-small 4 position is hugely important going against GSW.

Right now we have JR, Bron, Shump, RJ, Dunleavy, and McRae (I assume that Dahntay Jones gets cut and James Jones is just here for chemistry at this point). McRae might not be ready for that much time but I expect that we'll spend the first half of the year trying to figure that out, and hopefully we can grab another guy (Corey Brewer?) at the deadline if he's not or even for just insurance down the stretch if he is.
