Mike Dunleavy Duck Hunt

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If memory serves correct, Dellavedova had signed the offer sheet and it was announced that the Cavs would not match prior to the Cavs working out the deal to acquire Dunleavy. It was originally announced that Dunleavy would be absorbed into a pre-existing TPE, which I believe was created when Varejao was traded. Essentially, the two moves were separate.

The Dellevedova contract started with a similar cap figure to Dunleavy's deal. The Cavs opted to structure Delly's departure as a sign and trade to create another TPE. This TPE wasn't quite large enough to absorb Dunleavy's deal, so the Cavs got Milwaukee to increase Dellevedova's starting salary by a few hundred thousand (and sent Milwaukee the extra money to cover it). In effect, this created a TPE from the Dellevedova departure that was just barely large enough to absorb Dunleavy's contract.

The benefit of all that maneuvering was that the larger TPE from the Varejao trade remained intact at it's full value, which is valuable since it can't be combined with other trade assets for salary cap matching purposes.

In theory, the Cavs could have matched Delly's deal and acquired Dunleavy with their existing TPE as this would have worked under the league's salary cap rules (but not necessarily within the Cavs budget restrictions due to the extreme luxury tax payments they'd be on the hook for).

They ended up using the Delevadova TPE which was 50% of the contract I believe, but it was announced they wouldn't match well before the opportunity to get Dunleavy happened.

They still have the ANDY TPE because it goes until the trade deadline and is much larger.

They didnt swap Dunleavy for Delly, but we used his TPE so some believe we did.

Very smart savvy player who will fit seamlessly into the offense.

The problem, mostly, is that the team's offense hasn't needed upgrading.

But to get him for the price of waving "bye, bye" to our Kyrie Irving insurance plan, well, not bad.
I just want to be clear in saying that we were waving "bye, bye" to our "Kyrie Irving insurance plan" regardless of Dunleavy.

This whole Delly business is just nonsense. Delly was never going to sign here. He wanted to run his own team. Nothing wrong with that. He was gone for months.

He was a restricted free agent. That means that it doesn't matter what the little Aussie wanted. All the Cavs had to do was match. He was only gone because management choose to let him go.

Look.. i love Delly... but i can understand that the FO didnt want to pay him that kinda money to be a strict Backup PG. Lebron got his well due raise and so did JR..
I can understand why Delly was the odd man out.. He could not crack the rotation after Lue took over and as good as Delly is at what Delly does he does NOT fit into out new more Uptempo Style. Delly is a slow Half Court guy.

Would i rather have kept him? Sure.. Do i think it has to come up in EVERY damn Thread about other Players? No... People let it go.. he is gone.. End of Story.
Be happy for him he now is an Starter!

I think MD is great so far. He is smart, plays Hard and makes the right Play. And boy can he shoot.

We can get a Mario Chalmers a Noris Cole and adding one of them to Dunleavy i think
a healthy Chalmers + Dunleavey are more than enough to compensate the loss of Delly.

Delly was not a halfcourt guy. That's ridiculous. Just because he could run the offense didn't make him a halfcourt guy. Milwaukee is NOT downtempo.

And it will continue to come up because the team is stacked almost all over, but have two holes of subjective importance, in size underneath and, probably more importantly, backup point guard.

Until they address it by some other manner than adding to their storehouse of wings, it will remain a topic of discussion because it's still an issue.

You dont think that Delly told management that he wanted to run his own team?

You dont think that Delly told management that he wanted to run his own team. You dont think the agent who the CAVS will eventually have to do business with again told them that too? Players have more control in the NBA than in any other sport and it is more than can just be quantified by the CBA.

So what. You do not just let a player go because he wants you to. The PLAYERS agreed to the CBA that they are playing under, that means they have to accept that restricted means just that, restricted. Management decided not to pay a back up PG 9 mil a year with the cost implications for being over the cap. Whether the little Aussie wanted to run a team and start had little to do with it.

So what if Delly wanted to run is own team? he was still an asset that the FO had complete control of.
I love Delly but I don't care if he is happy or sad, it's a business and the Cavs lost something for nothing that they had no liable replacement for.

I love what Dunleavy provides, but he doesn't replace Delly. They are too different. Miss Dell Dog

With Delly being able to defend 1-3, being 6-4 but plays taller and shooting 40% from 3, he could have played sg and did some. He wasnt just a backup pg.

It came down to Delly vs Shump. They chose shump. I would have preferred Delly, but I get the Shump has the potential to be the better defender, has more length and athleticism, and if he works on his shot he can maybe get to 35-38% from 3.

But despite there efforts, Shump will never be a pg.

I don't get the joke

I don't get the joke

The word cloud of this thread would have more mentions of a certain Bucks PG then Dunleavy.

Mike's got to start hitting some of those wide open looks he's getting. JR sort of broke the curse of Cleveland where people's jumpers go to die (here's looking at you Donyell, Wesley, Hughes, etc.) and I'd hate for it to return
