Mike Dunleavy Duck Hunt

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The great thing about Dunleavy AND Jefferson is that LeBron now has two backups, meaning more rest for all 3 of them which is obviously critical. You can play LeBron 30 minutes and still be under 10 mpg for those guys.

If Dunleavy's back is healthy, you're going to see the Cavs go to LBJ, three wings, and Frye as the bench lineup. Mo and Felder weren't/aren't going to see minutes in such games.

In game 3 of the finals, the Cavs started the 4th with LBJ/JR/Shump/Jefferson/Frye and that lineup killed +100 per 100 possessions lol). Replace JR with Dunleavy in this situation since in regular season games, JR will get rest.

Delly/Shump/Jefferson/LBJ/Frye was one of he best lineups in the NBA last year (+34 per 100 possessions) and was better than our starting lineups with Kyrie and Love. I won't go into how much I love Delly and his impact, but we can replicate some of this lineup with Dunleavy's shooting. The only thing missing is Delly running the pick and roll with LBJ which was dominant.

I can see these lineups:

Kyrie/JR/Dunleavy/LBJ/TT or Frye or Love
Kyrie/Shump/Dunleavy/LBJ/TT or Frye or Love
LBJ/Shump/JR/Dunleavy/TT or Love or Frye
LBJ/Shump/Jefferson/Dunleavy/TT or Love or Frye

If Dunleavy is healthy, I'm willing to bet we see some of our best +/- lineups with him in there.

This is how he affected the game when he was healthy two years ago. Doubt he gets back to this,my it even if he's half of this:

He was 10th among all SFs in DRPM last season at 2.17 and 11th two years ago at 1.91 so it's no fluke. He was also one of only 18 players who was at least +1 in ORPM and +2 in DRPM(LeBron, AD, Kwahi, Draymond G., Danny G., Milsap, Pachulia, Tyson Chandler, Zach Randolph, Hayward, DeAndre Jordan, Wes Matthews, Derrick Favors, Cody Zeller).

The Bulls were 3.8 points per 100 possessions better with him on court. In the playoffs, they were 17.2 points per 100 possessions better with him on court. In his 13 seasons in the NBA, his teams have been better with him on court than off 10 times. In the playoff series against the Cavs, he was +1 while on court for 227 minutes and the Bulls were a total of 26 points better with him on the court than when he was off court.

Dunleavy was top 19% in the league in spot up PPP at 1.10. For reference, JR Smith was top 4% at 1.23 PPP, Kyrie was top 9% at 1.17 PPP, and KLove was top 15% at 1.12 PPP. He shot 45% on corner threes, 65% in the playoffs.

His spot up defense wasn't great as he allowed 1.03 PPP, bottom 35%.

His ISO defense was really good. He allowed .67 PPP in ISO, 14th best among players who played 60+ ISO defensive possessions/

He was pretty good defending off of screens. He allowed .83 PPP, good for top 40% in the league. He was decent in defending the pick and roll ball handler, top 48%.

Overall, he was a two way player (could still be though doubtful) who knows his role and would give us another plus player in the rotation and make the team stronger. In addition, we won't have to see him make annoying 27 footers against us which he seemed to do all the time. When he plays with LBJ, he'll get open looks.

Dunleavy was deadly in today's scrimmage. Can't wait to see how he shoots during the season this year. Great addition by David Griffin.

Yes that is great but concerned has he been in any of the Instagram or Snapchat videos?

Was impressed with Dunleavy.

He isn't the same player he used to be with Chicago a few years ago. The lateral speed isn't the same as it used to be but he is such a smart player that he has adjusted to that seamlessly. Still a very solid defender, he moved the ball and spaced the floor really well.

With him and RJ, we have got two smart as fuck wing players whom we can pair up with LeBron and just tactically outsmart bench units for fun. I am really excited about him.

The thing about guys like that is their game translates well to the playoffs. The game slows down, the defensive intensity all around goes up, which means everyone else is playing tighter so you don't need as much in the way of individual athleticism. There's a greater emphasis on being smart, understanding spacing, being able to predict where the ball will go, etc..

This^ Also, come playoff time, LeBron covers for a lot of the athletic weaknesses on our team by essentially acting as a roving defender. Additionally, TT's ability to switch also covers for others' poor lateral speed.

Absolutely. It's then up to the other guys to be in the right place, not miss their rotations, etc.., and those vets excel at that. Those guys are pretty long, too, which can disrupt passing lanes if they know what they're doing.
