MLB - Trade Rumors and Speculation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They are willing to take on lots money though, thats what Philadelphia reports are saying.

Paying someone to take Lee?

I don't know about that...that would have to be a pretty favorable deal.

That's what I was thinking. If I was the Indians I would try to get involved...if we can get paid to take back Lee...

Philly won't take enough off to get me interested.

$25 million for Cliff Lee...what the hell were they thinking?

Wouldn't the proper term for this be 'fair weather fan'?

It does sort of crack me up that we spent so much time in the early season with people saying, 'If the Indians win consistently for a few years the fans will show up!' like it was a badge of honor.

Your daily posts.

Look if you don't feel like Cleveland fans are an embarrassment, it is about time you backtracked.

I can tell this is a hot-button issue, but I'll say I don't think Cleveland fans are the greatest.

Cavs fans are great - I'm constantly surprised at how informed the casual Cavs fan is. When at the Q I'm always impressed the fans know when to get loud and keep the place rocking when it's a good game. I think they're the best in town.

I'll catch hell for this - but Browns fans love the event of tailgating and partying at the stadium - but I've never been impressed with their knowledge of the team. I'm a fan of a different team and can normally name more players on the Browns than a lot of 'die-hards'. NFL games in Cleveland seem to be more about the event than the team.

And Indians fans have been covered here - at the VERY BEST, they are average.

Pretty much in agreement with everything that was said in this post. The average indians fan is below average when it comes to knowledge about the game/team. And because b00bie takes so much shit for his posts for telling it like it is ill chime in. When i first moved away from the city of Cleveland the insult around the water cooler was "he's from cleveland what does he know." I've since gained the respect of the sports entheusiasts and they were bitterly honest when they told me what the world outside of cleveland thinks of us and i couldn't help but agree. Look you can either appreciate the game and everything that goes into it, economics included, or you can feel bad for yourself and live a life filled with self pitty. It's a game were talking about, the indians cavs and browns losing doesn't affect your life in any way shape or form so why act like it does?

There's 0 chance that the indians get envolved in anything to do with Lee. He makes far too much money for the indians to be even remotely interested. They have repeatedly said that they can't and won't tie their hands with a contract like that.

Didn't Lee hate it in Cleveland and was a cancer to the team? Hell in 2007 we sent him down to the minors to straighten him out... Imagine if we had Lee, CC and a Fausto in 2007.

The reason we sent him down in 2007 was because he was totally sucking. But yeah, he wasn't a big fan of Cleveland.

I just posted this in another thread so sorry for the re-post, but it seems relevant to your point above:

Dennis Manoloff asked last year's American League Cy Young winner, former Indian Cliff Lee, "Do you feel bad for the fans who see the core of their team traded?"

Lee replied: "It would help if the fans showed up and came to the games. That's why the team didn't make money, because the fans weren't there, supporting the team."

Had Cliff Lee been in cy young form in 07' then the indians win the world series. Moot point though, even if we got Cliff lee for 10mm per, which is not going to happen, it's still too much for my liking.

It's a vicious cycle.

Casual fans aren't going to show up to games because of the prices and lackluster baseball put on the field.

Team "isn't generating enough money."

Attendance sucks.

Repeat.

To be clear, I've never claimed "Cleveland fans are the best in the world." That would be hyperbolic.

I'm definitely saying that hyperbole in the other extreme, "Cleveland fans are the joke of the sports world," is not only wildly hyperbolic in the other direction, but it brings nothing to this website other than pissing everyone off.

If people want to discuss how Cleveland sports fans can improve, that would be an enjoyable discussion.

Step one I suppose would be to stop making these self deprecating Cleveland sucks videos.

Step one would be to improve the business situation and politics in Cleveland. Everything else follows from there.

Sports are fun and all, but don't mean shit in the grand scheme of things.
