MLE in the offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Morrow, Brewer, and Matthews are all RFA. The Jazz gave up Brewer because they want Matthews to be their SG of the future so I don't see them letting him go. The other 2 have a shot though.
.

I think Matthews situation depends on what happens with Boozer, if they re-sign Boozer I have trouble believing they will go out of their way to match an offer for Matthews if it's too high. They traded Brewer to avoid the luxury tax more than anything else Matthews play is just a added bonus to that. I'd offer him a deal similar to what JR Smith got, he's going to be a very high quality SG, he's pretty much a perfect fit for what the Cavs are looking for in an SG (Defensive, 6"5, excellent jumpshot, 23 yrs old)

This guy Okafor is one of the worst player in the Nba, and i am not even kidding.

Sure if you hate good defensive big men that average 10/9/1.6 are terrible players than I would agree with you. But as our team is constructed we don't have a big man that good at defense, or as good of a rebounder. Emeka would start with Shaq off of the bench, and our depth would be disgusting.

What we do with the MLE will really depend on what we do with our own free agents..

If we somehow bring back 2 of Shaq, Sasha Kaun, Z, then I don't see us using the MLE on a big... However if we only get 1, then I could see us using our MLE on a big... If we don't bring back either then we'll for sure bring someone in with the MLE at the center spot..

It's either the center spot or the backcourt, as far as the MLE... I'm thinking Ferry is looking at either an upgrade at the SG spot (a more dynamic player) or a backup center...

If we win it or not I'd be surprised if we don't re-sign Shaq this summer. I don't see us re-signing Z with anything but the MLE. I wouldn't care too much to see him go if we can get a younger big for it though. Like Z or not you have to make that move if you can.

It might be a good time to bring Kaun in if he looks good this summer. We're deep enough with big men that we can spend the season developing him like we did Hickson this year. However, with the impending lockout, I can see him declining if asked to sign.

I understand we own draft rights to him. Does that mean he gets a rookie contract or do we have to use an exception?

Kendrick Perkins next offseason....Perfect C for this team, perfect.

Get a Jamison type 4 (when Jamisons' contract is over, or we trade him) or Garnett type 4 (inside/outside game like Bosh/Amare) and we are set for any team in the league.

Wonder if we can get Perkins for the full MLE though...

i think it depends which route the celtics go down, do they bite the bullet and rebuild or try for long term mediocrity. If they rebuild they wont throw big money at perkins. Only contending teams with enough offense are looking for a guy with his skillset so that limits the money he can get on the open market, so the MLE and a possible championship might be appealing.

At the end of the day money talks, it always has.

Assuming we win the championship this season, I think Shaq comes back, and if Shaq returns I think Z retires and becomes an assistant or something.

Kaun will come if he has minutes, and if Shaq is still starting next year, there will be serious minutes at the 5. With Shaq and Kaun, we only have room for a project center through the draft.

Have you seen this guy in the Hornets ? he could be the worst starter in the NBA

Most Hornets fans absolutely loathe Okafor. I have some friends who wish someone would just plant a gun in Emeka's locker just so they could be rid of him. The grass always looks greener on the other side, but I'm sure we'd all be changing our tune if Okafor was actually starting for us.

I could be a better player on the Hornets than Emeka. He was always a terrible fit for them, their GM is stupid and that is why they traded for him. Now they will be biting a bullet and looking to trade him. Honestly if he could give us 10 points and solid defense he would be a great addition. With Okafor starting and Shaq coming off the bench it would be rediculous.

I doubt very much that the Celtics do not resign Perkins. In fact I am willing to guarantee it.

If we get Kendrick "Mashed potato face" Perkins, I will shoot myself in the foot until there's nothing left.

I hate that fat bastard with a passion, I want nothing to do with him.

Emeka Okafor? That's a player I'd like to see on this team.

Whether you hate him or not is irrelevant, he is much better than Okafor and can defend true 5s, while Okafor and his horrible contract cannot.

Okafor isn't a bad player, but he is not a 5 and he cannot defend them, if he played the 4 he wouldn't be that bad.

I would prefer Perkins over Okafor to, but really how realistic is that? Perkins isn't leaving Boston.

I don't think there's a chance Perkins leaves, however my point was more that Okafor isn't very good at C, and even worse when you take into account his contract. I'd rather a portion of the MLE on Darko than go after Okafor.

Okafor is not that bad. He is a very solid defender, and is a double double player for his career. I'd personally love to have him, I have wanted him on the team for some time now and he is better than any C we currently have. If we got him that means that him and Shaq would share C, and that would be amazing. For the following season than that really helps us out in a lot of ways. It allows us to go after (if JJ is not ready, or unable) a young C or PF because Emeka can be either. And we do have a huge trade chip in AJ.
