MLE in the offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Okafor is not that bad. He is a very solid defender, and is a double double player for his career. I'd personally love to have him, I have wanted him on the team for some time now and he is better than any C we currently have. If we got him that means that him and Shaq would share C, and that would be amazing. For the following season than that really helps us out in a lot of ways. It allows us to go after (if JJ is not ready, or unable) a young C or PF because Emeka can be either. And we do have a huge trade chip in AJ.

He's not bad, but again he is not a center and has always struggled to defend Cs. You want to talk about a player Dwight Howard has abused in games, it's Okafor, here's just a sample:

45pts 19rebs
24pts 21rebs (TWICE Dwight has done this against Okafor)
15pts 21rebs
33pts 18rebs

For their careers Dwight is averaging 20pts, 15rebs while Okafor is at 11pts 9rebs and shooting 47%, and it's trending down for Okafor in his matchups with Dwight this year he's averaging 4.5ppg and 4.5rpg 0.5bpg to Dwights 25.5ppg and 11.0rpg 3.5bpg.

He would be a disaster at the 5 for the Cavs, like I said before, I'd rather use a portion of the MLE on Darko than to take on Emeka, atleast Darko is 7"0 280lbs.

Darko would be... interesting. I think the only options he wants to consider are staying in Minnesota or going to Europe. He's been promised too many opportunities in his career that haven't been given to him. The last thing he wants is to leave a team where he's a rotation player to sit on the bench behind Shaq and Z. Kaun has about the same upside as he does I think, and Darko has a bad attitude.

Perkins would be great from a basketball standpoint, but I think there's 2 problems with him. First, the Celtics are going to overpay since he's one of their only young players left. Plus they need someone to defend Dwight, as do we. Second, his demeanor probably won't fit chemistry-wise. Could anyone really imagine him goofing around on the bench like the Cavs do? I've never even seen the guy smile.

As abuC said, Okafor is horrible against Dwight. The list of capable Dwight-defenders is pretty small, but Okafor is nowhere near that list. And he's really expensive. Maybe instead of signing/trading for a center, the FO should just resign Shaq and Z, and tell JJ to gain like 10-20 pounds of muscle so he can defend centers better.

One option that might be realistic is Antoine Wright. I think he's a good defender, plus he's cheap. Probably would only cost $2.5 million. Plus, Danny Ferry loves those Raptor swingmen. :D

Windy mentioned Antoine Wright as a possible sleeper acquisition just before the trade deadline. Wouldn't mind him at all ..

And I think Perkins' demeanor is more a result of him being over-exposed to the cancer that is Garnett ...

Scratch Camby off the list. He just signed an extension with Portland.

I am a little intrigued by Brendan Haywood. Very good defender, decent offensive game around the basket and is good in the pick and roll game. I can't stand the guy from those Wizards series but i think he could be a good pick up. A trade option on the wing could be Martell Webster. Someone who i had interest in for a while. He has good size, is a good 3pt shooter and a good defender. His fg% isn't great but thats gonna happen when 4 out of your 8 shots per game are 3's. He shot 44% on 2pt shots according to draft express. I could see him being traded, maybe a combo of Moon/Telfair, or Parker/Telfair or even West. Yea i said West, love the guy but i could see management trying to move him just from the ongoing issues.

Haywood will easily get more than the MLE. Probably from Dallas or OKC. I'd happily throw the full MLE at him if he wanted it though lol.

I'm not sure why Portland would trade Webster for our trash. He's on a relatively cheap contract and their owner is rolling in cash. I could see them consolidating their depth and using him as a piece in a bigger deal....but again, not for anything we have.

I could see Webster being dealt for cheap, they are gonna be free agent players again after this upcoming off-season. Most likely in the market for a starting caliber pg, and C. I don't consider Webster a mainstay on that team. Batum will probably start at sf next season, he didn't in the beginning of the year because he was injured the first half of the season but played great when he returned. He started 25 out of his 37 games when he returned and shot the ball very well. But anyways they can clear 5m off their cap, plus Webster is not someone who has high value right now imo. Moon, West or Parker could be solid for them off the bench. I wouldn't consider any of them trash. I'm looking at it more of a cap saving deal but they do get some value in this deal talent wise because these guys would all be decent for them off the bench.

What about Ray Allen?

If the Celtics are eliminated this year, they have some decisions to make.

After giving Rondo a pretty big extension (one that was definitely worth it), Paul Pierce and Rondo are FA's and I think Perkins is too.

With that said, IF they are eliminated by the Cavs, I could see the front office of Boston going in a different direction. Paul Pierce may be kept, with loyalty as the obvious reasons, and I'm guessing they try to re-sign Kendrick Perkins.

That could leave Ray Allen as the odd man out. IF he would take the full MLE to rejoin a legit title contender, I'd definitely consider it. Great 3 point shooter and ok defender.

What about Mike Redd for league minimum?

If LeBron is still here the two top possible options I see for the MLE are Ray Allen or Jermaine O'Neal. Either fits a need along with being proven and having a game that should fit here fine.
I am tired of always bringing in aging players but these two do appear to be the best options who you might be able to get for MLE money.

B. Haywood has to be considered a possibility with Shaq gone and Z very possibly gone too. Only problem is the Cavs would then have to also find a big who can consistently hit a mid range or perimeter shot.

If LeBron isn't here than you only look to young players and in that case maybe not even use the MLE or at least not all of it.

Kendrick Perkins, he can guard D-Howard and would be more effective than Shaq was. Ray, well I don't need to plead my case.

Ray or Perkins= MLE
Z= BAE

Perkins isn't a Free Agent until 2011
Pretty sure we already used our Bi-Annual when we re-signed Z.

.

Have you watched jermaine play in miami? Does nothing useful.

Would the Magic match a mid-level offer for Redick? He has impressed me with his play this year. He is good defender, very good shooter and he can drive the ball to the hoop much better than I thought.
