Here’s the great advantage Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen and his embattled GM Kevin Pritchard have over the rest of the NBA: a willingness to spend at draft time. To move up 10 spots in the second round – from 44 to 34 – a league source says the Blazers paid Golden State $2 million to go with the 44th pick. … The Miami Heat’s draft pick at No. 18 is available, league sources say. “They want to sell it to clear cap space,” one Western Conference executive said. … The Washington Wizards have the Nos. 1 and 30 picks of the first round, but league executives says GM Ernie Grunfeld is trying to stockpile more picks. New owner Ted Leonsis had a similar philosophy with the Washington Capitals, and has insisted that building through picks and the draft will be his priority in the NBA, too. … The Nets and Philadelphia 76ers are expected to have interest in Boston Celtics free agent Brian Scalabrine(notes). The reserve forward prefers to re-sign with the Celtics, but it’s unclear if they’ll make him an offer. … Portland is showing strong interest in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Mo Williams(notes). The Blazers have been making calls to check on him. … British center Ryan Richards isn’t expected to get past the Kings with the 33rd pick. … The Denver Nuggets made Linas Kleiza(notes) a $2.3 million qualifying offer, but sources close to the forward say there’s “more than a 50 percent chance” he’ll stay in Greece. Kleiza is due to make $6 million next season if he stays with Olympiakos. The qualifying offer allows the Nuggets to match any offer an NBA team makes to Kleiza.

I've talked about Mo Williams being a perfect fit in Portland in the past but now we have some evidence they actually want him. I would think they would have to include Bayless, and maybe Andre Miller would be thrown in. Either way, with Portland's stockpile of talent, they are certainly an interesting trade partner.

I'll get this out of the way right now since it simply isn't going to happen and I'll just be called a Buckeyes homer for saying it.

We use Mo Williams in a trade to land Greg Oden. Then we turn around and complete a trade with the Grizzlies to bring in Mike Conley to run the point.

Conley and Oden, happily reunited... just like high school, just like AAU, just like college.

And we trade AP for Oden's healthy knees.

Not a bad idea, although I don't think the Blazers are quite ready to give up on Oden.

I wouldn't mind a deal of Mo for Jerryd Bayless, cap filler, and the Blazers 1st round pick (#22). Bayless is only 21, he's a former lottery pick, and he has alot of upside.

My dream scenarios would be getting either Batum or Oden back, but I think realistically we would get back their pick, maybe Fernandez, and filler.

Why in the world would anyone want Oden? The guy is Sam Bowie part deux, and people want to trade our best piece for him?

Nah, I'm okay.

I get that people are down on Mo Williams, but does Oden make us a better team than Mo?

Even in the Celtics series when everyone freaked out on Mo he averaged 13.5, 5.5 and 3.5. He scored over 12 pts in 4 of the 6 games. (He also won game 1 for us and was one of few players to show up for game 6.)

I am all for trading Mo, IF IT MAKES THE TEAM BETTER - but lets not just trade him to trade him. That does nothing for us.

Just in case you forgot, a guy who had many of foot problems in his first few seasons but then became a 2-time All-Star is the Cavaliers' leader in games played. And also, we don't even have a starting quality center under contract.

Just like the Cavs, Portland's got a superstar that needs the ball in his hands and would be nceily complemented by a point guard that can play off the ball. They'd defintely need to funload Andre Miller in that case. Would we be interested in Miller (+ a sweetener) or do we try to find a 3rd team?

Z was able to come back because he lives on the perimeter.. Oden can't shoot and his whole game is inside the paint.

Meh. The only good pieces I'd want on Portland are ones that'd be unattainable for Mo Williams.

While Portland has a lot of talent, I don't seen anything on their roster that particularly intrigues me. All of their guards are ball dominant and as long as LeBron is a Cav those kind of guard just won't work in our system...

I realize Mo didn't play well in the playoffs, but he is still a near perfect fit next to LBJ. I am for trading him but it has to be for a player similar to him- a sharp shooting guard who doesn't need the ball to be effective. We just need him to be able to play defense and show up in the playoffs as well. Only problem is finding a guard that fills all those needs...

Batum, Fernandez, or some stiff with a 20-some draft pick is not gonna turn this team around or really help all that much.

So because Z beat the odds we should assume Oden will? Lose one of our best players for a guy who has played 82 games...in THREE YEARS.

I know we might be scrapping and rebuilding a bit, even if LBJ comes back, but I don't think we have the assets to rebuild Oden's 50-year-old knees.
