Moderate Life Guidance Request

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you're spending 300 a month for gas, you better be Ubering, door dashing, etc.

Are you able to utilize public transit where you’re at to get to where you need to go?

I figured it out, going to work in IT for 6 months, then construction for 4. Then move to Poland.

Thanks for your guys' help.

Praying for the other newb.

It seems like you cycle through this every couple of months. You were doing good with learning IT so it seemed. Why not stick with that and find a career coach or case manager who can help you with your transition from your parents place?

You have a disability, there are services available to you that will help you set reasonable, measurable goals then they will record and keep track of your progress. You are coming to RCF for help and encouragement when there are people out there whose job is to help you and specialize on working with people who suffer from mental illness. They are more effective than people on the internet.

Yes, this too. That $300/month for car fuel really jumped out at me when I read your list. That and the cigarettes cost. Has to be some you can cut back be able to do A without taking a second job.

Yeah $250 for cigarettes is wild. That's at least a pack a day. You might have your future decided for you if you keep that up.

The wise thing to do is to map out a work commute in a workday and multiply it out for the month. Then add on reasonable living transportation needs which could easily be tracked in a week looking at the odometer and multiplied by four.

Jumping back and forth between IT and construction will get him nowhere.

IT is a pathway to a full career that pays well.

Got to stick with it.

Also, I very much support your idea of contacting social services.

Clearly there is a cycle here with very little movement or change in outcomes. It is very helpful to have someone structure his goals and keeping his accountable to the plan and his treatment. Thus far the alternative has not been effective.

Dee, I highly recommend you take advantage of the help social services can offer.

They are highly experienced in helping people like you.

They can offer alternatives as well as structure to your plans and they will also ensure you receive the best treatment possible.

We encounter these threads every 4-6 months. I strongly suggest that you avail yourself of a case worker who can best help you implement your plans.

They can help you focus on a single career progression which is sorely needed. Hopping between IT and construction is not going to get you very far.

IT is a pathway to a full and promising career. You cannot do it on a part-time basis and expect good outcomes. You should use your IT service experience and get trained in coding. The big money IT jobs are in coding.

I don't see how moving to Poland will give you better opportunities to move your IT career forward.

Also, is it legal to claim disability in the US while permanently living abroad?

The United States is the world's leader in the new tech dominated economy. Moving to Poland is removing yourself from the best and most numerous opportunities for training and future jobs.

Yep, IT is great -- go for it. My husband is in that field full-time, and we live a nice and stable life.

FWIW, I know a fella that did one of those coding boot camp programs and it worked out very well for him.

Yes it's legal. I'd have 70-90k zl in Poland vs 40-50k in US and I wouldnt be able to survive on my own (if I stay in US) . I have considered those services, but they're expensive.

edit1: Tried the coding route, studied 10 hrs a day for 6 months... not for me/not smart enough.
