NBA Finals | Game 1 | Cavs (0-0) @ Warriors (0-0) | June 1, 2017 | 9:00pm EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Offense will improve but even if the Cavs play good defense the Warriors are so stacked it really seems impossible. Klay and Dray did nothing offensively and they still won easily.

Well, that didn't go well.

1) Warriors during the season did not go all out. They really didn't and rarely did they exert more than like 75% effort. Their goal is to not just win but to sweep this series. This is the most energy I have seen from this team all season.

2) JR has become an afterthought on offense. At our best, LeBron looked for him. He really doesn't anymore and the Warriors know it. On defense, JR made too many mistakes on the perimeter when we can afford none.

3) It's harder to execute taking Curry out of the game when things fall into disarray with the addition of Durant's gravity. The last two years, everyone talked about Curry choking, etc., but we made life hard on him. We just can't do it anymore. I expect this type of scoring if not more frommCurey he rest of the series.

4. Brown at the helm is an advantage for this super stacked Olympic team. In the first quarter, instead of a bunch of motion sets that give shots to Zara or whoever the fuck, KD and Curry shot 19 times. That should be there offense every game. Brown also played them more minutes then Kerr does with his arrogant resting and allowing the bench to play.

5) I thought they competed decently until the beginning of the third. We were within striking distance (although striking distance against GS is different than against others). They gave up 60 points on 61 shots and 8 fits which isn't that bad, A couple of defensive board and one or two opennthrees from role players and a Love making a layup and this could have been either a tied or even the Cavs up,at the half even though the Warriors shot 18 more times.

6) Role players did nothing at all. Nothing. Can't beat team USA if that's the case.

7) Kyrie wasn't able to finish tonight and didn't exert his offensive will on the game. There was zero playmaking and it much defense and not much boxing out, either. Can't have that in game 2.

8) James came out aggressively and had a great first quarter but then turned it over (aided by bullshit non foul calls) and it took away a chance for a second quarter push. In addition, James played the entire first quarter and was tired at the beginning of the second with the bench unit with KD and curry sitting. Of chance really if James has to play 46 minutes a game.

9) What the hell has happened to Klay? He missed some open ones and gave us a little bit of a chance. Can't just expect him to continue bricking everything.

10) Can you imagine this same team sans Durant? We execute the same gsmeplan and Draymond and Klay have to step up. That stupid fucking coward just front ran all game for easy dunks like in an all-star game.

11) Gsme 2 is a must win. We are not better then they are systemically. We just aren't. They have two MVPs and two of the three best players. We have to win with exceptional performances from James and Kyrie and hope the role players hit threes. We are a better three point shooting team and have to show it.

Before the series I thought everything had to go perfectly for us to win in 6 and now there is zero room left for error. Thats just the way it is against the best team ever.
I wish old school rep was still a thing because I agree with literally every single one of these points.

GS has 500x the ball movement that we do.

Pick up the Spurs game 1 tape and figure out what the fuck they do on defense. Their guys aren't really any more talented defensively than we are... should be able to play similar defense. Maybe start Shumpert on Durant and see what happens.

Shump is 7 inches shorter than Durant.

Game 1 is usually the feel-out game for the Cavs so I'm not going to panic but Cavs have to play with absolute urgency starting Sunday. This team wants the sweep and if we perform like that again they will get it.

Cavs cannot wait for their backs to be against the wall to turn it on like last year. If they play every game here on out like they are down 3-0 I can live with the results.

I'm struggling to think of what the Cavs could have done here.

Even people following the game were getting bored of the Warriors and their dumbass juggernaut team they built.

I'm not pissed at the Cavs. Just more so annoyed that the Warriors were able to land Durant and we're stuck with shit basketball as a result.

When we look at our turnover - more than 50% were careless turnovers. Eliminate that and Golden State will not have the lead that they did. And a close game means even their shooters will feel the pressure and have a higher chance of missing. This is not a game we lost, This is a game we threw away.

Shump is 7 inches shorter than Durant.

I mean, who do you want to guard him? LeBron cannot guard him all game and try to score 35-40 points. He may have been able to back in the day, but he doesn't have that stamina now. Even on the Heat, Battier played Durant quite a bit. RJ is too slow. Not sure Derrick Williams is ready. Those are your other options.

At the end of he day Durant has 3-4 inches on LeBron too and is going to be able to shoot over him most of the time as well.

Someone mentioned bringing TT off the bench. I tend to agree with that. Unfortunately the Warriors play 5 on 4 on defense because they don't have to guard him. TT plus LeBron and shooters as the second unit seems like something we could try.

Frye also should get some run when Curry and Durant are on the bench. Deron-Korver-LeBron-TT-Frye as the second unit with the main play being a LeBron-TT or Deron-TT pick and roll.

Another thing is Deron sets some mean screens, but we had him out there with Curry on him and didn't use him to get Durant off LeBron. Fuck up Durant and get Curry switched on LeBron at the same time.

I'd seriously consider bringing Tristan off the bench.

Start Shump or Jefferson. We need someone to sacrifice on Durant so LeBron can have energy in the 2nd half. We also need the spacing on offense.

Ok, here are the game efficiencies for the top players. First is the efficiency and the minutes played (xx/xxm). Then is the plus/minus that person had as compared to the person they were guarding (their opposite player). Higher efficiency number, the better. These numbers are what is known as "NBA Efficiency." It's a very basic formula.

Love -------> 30/34m (+17)
LeBron -----> 30/40m (-11)
Kyrie --------> 14/35m (-20)

Durant ------> 41/38m (+11)
Curry --------> 34/34m (+20)
Green -------> 13/36m (-17)
Thompson ---> 01/36m (???)

So, the only one of our Big Three who won his match up was Love.

I think we are going to want to explore the concept of putting extra attention on Durant and Curry and trying to make other players beat us. Thompson has been garbage in these playoffs, might want to show he can break out of that slump.

Also, Love getting the better of Green is huge. We likely need that to continue if we are going to have a shot in the series.

@neversurrender

just wanted to see this poster's name because that is what we need to do as Cavs fans.

Slow it down, get physical, make the frontrunners play a tight 4th quarter, clean up the mistakes, and be a man on the glass.
